If by "things" you mean customer software support then yes, but development environments work consistently and are dead easy to set up. YMMV if you work on MS tech (.net, etc.), I don't. TBH one of my main reasons to move to Linux a few years ago is because I was pissed off by this particular problem (how to do it + ok and now tell me how to do it on windows and why half of what you describe doesn't work).

I don't use VS, and as it turns out, the crappy console I'm talking about is this msysgit. The lack of a decent consistent terminal is my biggest pain in win7. cmd, powershell, msysgit - they all are total crap and every one works differently. And my Git settings aren't working from Eclipse, basically the only place they work is this git terminal. Sorry, but that's not 'wonderful integration'. On Linux everything just works.

There are lots of wonderful integrations / applications for windows now. The days of windows being awful with Git are behind us.

Please tell me more, how I can get behind Git being awful on Win7 since I have to use this OS at work (and since I've been on Linux personally for a few years, I have no clue). I have only some crappy git console and my config even doesn't work outside of it. Thank you.

My advice to all freelance hackers and designers: if you meet someone who says they work at an agency, (a) tell them you're a janitor and (b) run away.

Agency finds naive freelancer, offers a job for exposure & other bullshit, overwhelms with fixes/updates, pretends being dissatisfied/offended, refuses to pay. This kind of story is as old as freelancing itself, only the names of parties involved change.

PSA for inexperienced freelancers: Nobody will unclog your crapper for a promise of future gigs, designers and programmers shouldn't put up with such scams either. Too many of us gained this wisdom the hard way.

There's a difference between evaluating abilities and trying to engage him in a pissing contest. Interviews should determine if the candidate will deliver what he's being paid for, nitpicking and flamewars can be saved for future coffee break entertainment. "It's not my solution therefore it's shit" is not what code review should be about.

I got pretty frustrated by the two "Senior" devs who seemed to take great pride in tearing my code and my decisions apart.

Two possibilities:

a) You got a glimpse of how your life on the job would look like.

b) Just like qualified specialists can be terrible interviewees, they can be terrible interviewers. They just screwed up.
