Privacy Policy

HN Glance is a read-only visual Hacker News reader. It does not provide user accounts, comment posting, submissions, payments, newsletters, or forms that ask visitors to submit personal information.

Information HN Glance Handles

When you use HN Glance, routine request information may be processed to serve the site, protect it from abuse, cache responses, and troubleshoot errors. This can include your IP address, browser and device metadata, requested URLs, timestamps, and similar operational log data handled by the hosting and CDN infrastructure.

HN Glance does not keep a visitor account database. It uses browser storage only for app preferences and performance: your color theme may be stored in localStorage, and recently loaded feed data may be stored temporarily in sessionStorage. These values stay in your browser and can be cleared in your browser settings.

Cookies, Analytics, and Tracking

HN Glance does not intentionally set marketing cookies, run analytics tools, use ad tracking, sell visitor data, or share visitor data for advertising.

External Data Sources

HN Glance displays public Hacker News data and public article metadata from external APIs. To show screenshot previews, HN Glance server routes may request the linked article URL from a screenshot service. These upstream requests are used to render and cache HN Glance pages; HN Glance does not use them to build visitor profiles. When you click out to an external article, Hacker News page, or other third-party website, you leave HN Glance and that site may process your visit under its own privacy policy.

How Information Is Used

  • To serve pages and API responses.
  • To cache public story, comment, user, and screenshot data.
  • To preserve basic interface preferences in your browser.
  • To monitor reliability, security, and abuse of the service.

Retention

Browser storage remains until it expires, the session ends, or you clear it. Public story and screenshot data may be cached for performance. Hosting and CDN logs are retained according to the settings and policies of the infrastructure provider.

Your Choices

  • You can clear HN Glance localStorage and sessionStorage in your browser.
  • You can block browser storage, although some preferences or caching may stop working.
  • You can choose not to open external story links or author profile links.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated when HN Glance changes how it works or how it is hosted. Updates will be posted on this page with a new revision date.
