Fix bugs. That's the best way to learn and make friends. It will give you exposure to the code base and existing code conventions.you'll learn much more and get some street cred.

I think folks who complain about java must make sure that they are using a very powerful ide first (example: eclipse or intellij idea) If, having used and mastered a good ide and all it's features, you still don't like it, it's a fair point.

Eclipse can make so many things in java drastically fast and easy. And I think that's where java shines. I'm yet to see as powerful an IDE for any other language. (Although I admit, I do not program for msft platforms and hence, never used msft ides)

Look at the source of that html. Looks like someone ran a for loop for all the img. It'd be cool to use some ajax and make this update automatically when the number changes.

The problem is that most folks are not made aware of the fact that privacy is a one-way street. Once open to all, the information is always lurking around somewhere, basically impossible to delete. I try to explain that to non-techie folks and they don't believe it.

The problem is such visa issuances invariably involve working closely with IRS (to ensure the person actually runs the business, makes enough money, employs all the people he/she claims, etc). And I don't think these two parts of the government have great communication or the infrastructure to have a good communication.

meet yourself. Most people don't know themselves deep enough to figure out their own plusses and minuses and act on them. Every person has the potential to achieve success, but it begins from self realization.

Google didn't release Chrome till it was good enough to be released. This, from a company which completely believes in releasing early! Of course Chrome is still beta, but there's a world of difference between "Google releases another mediocre product" and "Chrome is amazing!"

Almost exactly the same as in India. That's why people here in US think that everyone in India is smart _and_ hardworking. Well, the truth is that they encounter only those people who have survived all this. There are countless millions who suffer.

I think the single biggest factor is fear of failure. And it's mostly because of society (but other factors too). If you start something in India and fail, you are forever termed as a failure. No one moves on - anywhere you go, your failure follows you. The stigma is unbearable to live with.

Given this scenario, getting a 'safe' job and earn money working for someone else is the better option for most.
