Your original post says 70% loss, i.e. 30% efficiency. In the context of an e-bike, to me, 70% efficiency is fine. It's a large bike and the majority of the power for the majority of users is likely going to be coming from the battery anyways.
Also presumably we should be comparing the efficiency to other ebikes not traditional bikes. I'm not sure how effective traditional ebikes are at integrating motor + human power together but I'd imagine there are some additional losses.
Electric generator->battery->electric motor drive train should be fairly efficient. I'd be surprised if it was lower than 80%.
Traditional dynamos are fairly small parasitic loads and not really comparable.
Mine goes somewhat unused because of this (although definitely less than 10 swipes per try). If I was to buy another ereader I'd want at a minimum physical buttons for forward/back.

There's a bajillion of them around if you search "neck cooler" or similar. Very simple product sticking a few commodity items together. Some do only have fans though.
When I looked a while ago there wasn't really a clear winner or high quality unit. There is the "Coolify" series that are much more expensive but still somewhat middling reviews overall.

What about the tariffs would cause people to stop using it? Because they - along with many other of the administrations postulations and policies - are incredibly unpopular and a complete 180 of US foreign trade policy. Because tech is a money printing machine for the US and tech oligarchs who have largely bent the knee to Trump.
Countries can and have under the name of "digital services tax". Generally the rates are low and often only cover a subset of things. The real threat to the US IMO is losing marketshare. The stock market has gotten beat up but most of the real pain for the average person is still off in the horizon. Anti-US sentiment is growing quickly, if we enter a full blown global recession/depression I think it could be a real catalyst for large sudden shifts away from US tech companies.
Almost all the trade deficit numbers being thrown around by the US administration don't include trade in services which the US generally has a large surplus. A lot of that is very high margin tech SASS/advertising.
If this continues it seems like this could be a "digg->reddit" type moment for US tech. In some ways it is easier for a lot of people to leave facebook than it is for a single person. If you look at gross margins there is a lot of room for competition, though network effects make that competition very difficult. Maybe this is the catalyst for competitors to break in.
FWIW you can get thermostatic mixing valves that limits the maximum temperature of the water by mixing in cold water. Lets you run the tank hotter but have the same outlet temp. Fairly cheap I believe.
If your concern is storage you want as hot as possible, less boiling. Thermostatic mixing valves can bring the temp down to a safe temperature for use.
Losses are higher but you store more energy per L, which is often the limiting factor.

I love this. I fly a decent amount in Canada/USA on economy and almost every single time there is a massive line of gate humpers who haven't been called to board and are trying to get their oversized luggage into the overhead bins.
My greatest hope for airlines is someone starts a company focused on banning people. Bag too big for carry on? Banned. Wearing too much perfume? Banned. Got in line before your group was called. Guess what. Yeah. Banned.

I'm not suggesting adding anything. Homes have lots of stuff in them. Everything in your house becomes a thermal battery - tables, chairs, beds, walls, counters, clothes and so on. Just allow a range of temperatures and when energy is very low cost drive the indoor temperature to the upper range.
Ideally you have a brick/stone home with good exterior insulation.
Air conditioners have a COP of about 3 though. So really its more like 3.5kwh of storage. If you want to go lower temperature to store more then your COP drops.

There was an experimental community in Alberta, Canada doing this. Seems to be relatively successful as pilot project.
Been curious if you can't do this with houses generally. Set a temperature range of say 21-25c. Drive the temperature up when there is excess wind/solar (was primarily thinking of EU) then let it fall off.
Obviously works better the better insulated a house is. Has the advantage of turning everything in your home into a thermal battery with the only real cost being furnace controller, potentially even just software. At one point I meant to do the math to figure out the rough storage/efficiency for an average home but never got around to it.

Wish they would make an electric vehicle with a generator. Pure electric drivetrain with 50-100 mile range battery then stick a ~50hp generator in the "frunk".
Seems like being able to pin the generator at optimal revs should make up for the inefficiency of the electrical losses? But not sure.

Honestly I don't think most people need a "fixer" - just any local friend. Either they will know the expected bribe amount or they can figure it out. Also you might be able to get them to do stuff for you where all of the sudden the bribe is 1/10 the amount because they are local.
Maybe if you are doing more serious stuff like business or real estate it makes sense.

TBH the most interesting feature to me is screen brightness. I have a pixel 6 and it's not TERRIBLE in bright sunlight but it is... not great. Not sure that quite gets me interested in upgrading though. Cameras seem better I guess - have to wait on reviews for that.
