For the first time, I can see the advantage of AI for a forum like HN. Have the AI scan the comments and generate a summary and links to show/hide, as an example:
80% of comments are pedantic. 10% of comments discuss the actual topic. 5% of comments are excited/hopeful. 30% of comments are probable astroturfing. 20% of comments are by users who are most likely millenials. 1% of comments are by former /.'ers. etc.
Ideally this could just run locally and operate on any website as needed, like browser userscripts now.
Yes, this is the situation for my dell laptop's i7-1165G7. Alleged turbo boost to 4.7ghz! In reality, it will hit that for a sec and then throttle to ~1ghz. I had to disable the turbo boost AND two cores in bios to let it even achieve ~2.0ghz speeds consistently. It's a total scam. Turns out my 8th-Gen i5 laptop is almost the same speed on benchmarks, just because it's a few mm thicker with better cooling.
They are not usernames, so why do they call them that? They are more like disposable per-conversation identifiers.

Why spend $$ on a high performance air-superiority fighter when you can have one flying truck (F-35) controlling 20 cheap air to air drones? Even if a drone is just a disposable way to draw fire it's still a deal compared to a manned F-22.

There is no reason why the air farce needs to host two legs of the nuclear triad. Their entire doctrine is to kill as many enemy civilians as quickly as possible, because it's cheaper to kill them from a distance than sending in the army. This entire doctrine is the reason behind the existence of an independent air force, such as the RAF, which was designed as cheap alternative for maintaining imperial control. If we ever actually need the air force then we have already lost the war.
Does anyone else remember when LI had the basically illegal idea to replace users mail servers with their own, so they could scrape email content/address information? I remember hearing an interview about this on NPR, I think. They were quite pleased with themselves, too. Since that day I've always blocked them in the local firewall.
