I wish I could walk around NYC without airpods in. Someone mentioned the lunatics and others blasting music but the main issue honking.
The honking in NYC is unbearable. Add to that the noise that the subways make and the constant construction and you're risking actual hearing damage if you don't wear some noise cancelling headphones.
Can anyone comment on the inline AI tab completion performance of Zed compared to Cursor? Hoping to move away from Cursor as it seems like they break my settings every time they push an update and Vim motions stop working at random.
The only thing stopping me from leaving Cursor is their tab completion, which is honestly just incredible.
The elephant in the room is that there's nothing quite like Cursor Tab. Copilot, Supermaven, Codecompanion, etc. don't even come close. As much as I want to use Neovim full time, I just can't walk away from Cursor Tab. I can live without Cursor Agent since I can just use Claude Code when I need an agent.
Until something comparable for Neovim comes out, I just don't see how I can switch back. I would happily pay for this. I'm sure there are a lot of people in the same boat as me.
Maybe someone can clarify this but I was also pretty appalled by the grammar in the Epstein emails until someone pointed out it could be an artifact of OCR or decoding issues.
Not sure why they would have to do OCR on emails. Were they printed out? On PDF for some reason? The decoding thing I kinda get but that you can easily point out because of all the equal signs.
I know this is overkill for almost everyone but for those interested in a tiling window manager, take a look at AeroSpace [0].
No more dragging around windows or manually resizing them - just hotkeys. Took me a while to get used to it but can't live without it now.
I hate that they kinda try to hide the model version. Like if you click the dropdown in the chat box, you can see that "Thinking" means 3 Pro. When you select the "Create images" tool, it doesn't tell you it's using Nano Banana Pro until it actually starts generating the image.
Tell me the model it's using. It's as if Google is trying to unburden me with the knowledge of what model does what but it's just making things more confusing.
Oh, and setting up AI Studio is a mess. First I have to create a project. Then an API key. Then I have to link the API key to the project. Then I have to link the project to the chat session... Come on, Google.
Love all of these tips. I've hosted dozens of events since moving to NYC and figured I'd add 5 more:
1. If this is a dinner party (or people are all seated), force people to get up and move in a way that they'll meet new people. Do this when you're about 2/3 of the way through the party. Some will complain - do it anyway.
2. Plan 1 (ideally 2) interludes. It can be a small speech, moving people around, changing locations, having people vote on something, etc. For whatever reason, they make the night more memorable.
3. Do your best to make introductions natural and low-pressure. Saying things like "you two would really get along" can put pressure on people - especially shy ones. Bring up something they have in common and let them chat while you back away.
4. Go easy on folks who cancel last minute. They often don't feel good about doing it and you don't want to add more stress to them or yourself.
5. More music != more fun. Some music is good, but if people can't hear each other, turn it down.

I also don't agree that any employee should have to work as much as the founders.
But one point that needs to be made: You don't need to sacrifice your health to run a startup. You can get your 8 hours of sleep and exercise every day and still run your startup.
This notion that you have to get 3 hours of sleep and ruin your health is simply a choice - don't do it.
CodeCompanion doesn’t have tab completion right? I love Neovim but Cursor’s tab completion is just next level and I haven’t found any nvim plugin that comes close to it.
I could see this being very helpful for testing certain functionality during development.
As for using it on a regular basis, I think the security blurb should deter just about anyone who cares at all about security.
I actually don't have doubts that LLMs are quite good at writing software.
The problem for me is one of practicality. If, after hundreds of lines of AI-written code, I noticed some sort of issue (regarding scale, security, formatting, logic, etc.), I'm basically forced to start over.
We all know that reading code is way less pleasant than writing code. So, for me, LLMs can be very useful for writing code that I know is going to be correct without having to go back through it. For example, basic TRPC CRUD functions.
I'm a firm believer that if you want to start a tech company, at least one of the founders has to have a technical background. Even if you outsource all the work, you need to be able to ask the right questions related to security.
It's not just that this database was accessible via the internet. It was all public data. Storing people's IDs in a public database is just... wow.
Totally agree. I'm a big fan of neovim but didn't find a good AI solution that compared to Cursor. Even though I miss some of my neovim plugins, Cursor + Vim plugin is pretty hard to beat.
It’s as easy as deploying any other app that can be Dockerized. Deploying to something like Fargate isn’t _super_ trivial but can be done in <2 hours
What kind of engineer? As a software engineer, the Cursor Tab feature alone has doubled my development speed.
And it's cheap. Imagine I told you that you could have direct access to every PhD in the world and they would respond to all of your questions instantly... for $20/mo. Mind-blowing stuff and people still complain.
Walk into any coffee shop or office and I can guarantee that you'll see several people actively typing into ChatGPT or Claude. If it was so useless, four years on, why would people be bothering with it?
I don't think you can even be bullish or bearish about this tech. It's here and it's changing pretty much every sector you can think of. It would be like saying you're not bullish about the Internet.
I honestly can't imagine life without one of these tools. I have a subscription to pretty much all of them because I get so excited to try out new models.

Kinda related: anyone know if there is an autocomplete plugin for Neovim on par with Cursor? I really want to use this new model in nvim to suggest next changes but none of the plugins I’ve come across are as good as Cursor’s.
Absolutely unreal. Kinda funny how some people are complaining about minor glitches or motion sickness when this is the most impressive piece of technology I've seen. Way to go, OpenAI.

One thing that helped me get rid of all of these time-wasting apps was deleting them from my phone, but allowing myself to use the app’s website. It only took a few days for that small bit of friction to make me want to avoid the apps altogether. I did this with all my social media apps a while ago and eventually deleted the accounts.
I recently had to do this with YouTube because YouTube Shorts were getting very addictive. I still use YouTube on my computer, but my overall usage is significantly down.
Over Covid, I got really into solving the Rubik’s cube. I couldn’t find any minimalistic apps to help me time myself and learn algorithms. So, I ended up writing an app for myself, which I later showed off on Reddit.
People really seemed to like the design, so I cleaned it up a bit and made it available to everyone. The site (https://cubedesk.io) has been free to use for 3 years and has 50k users.
Most recently, I've been working on an email marketing platform to help me email those 50k users. I noticed that emailing all those people was expensive and tedious, so created and launched https://cc.dev
