I'm usually not an Ai shill, but I found Fable to be the first LLM that could actually provide useful feedback on a KiCAD PCB design. I paired it with a KiCAD MCP, but it tended to reverting to raw KiCAD scripting. If you ask it to review a PCB design, and provide feedback relevant to PCB design best practices, it will probably give you something useful. I wouldn't trust it to do a full design, but it's pretty good at finding issues. I'd add a few clauses to the request regarding checking components against JLCPCB/PCBWay/etc available components, as well as checking copper layer thickness and distances from the main components to the supporting components.

I did this as an experiment on my current project and it found a bunch of minor, non-critical, but completely valid problems with my deisgn.

I'm in the middle of my first hardware project right now and I can recommend the videos on the "Phil's Lab" channel on YT. He mostly uses Altium, but he has a few videos on KiCAD which really helped me. He also has generally good throwaway comments in his videos with regards to PCB design / component placement, as well as the order of operations for good PCB design.

Can't the website be literally static HTML for 99% of it? I don't really see any user defined input that would change the output.

It's really fast, and seems fine, but is it just static pages? If not, why not. That's the question most front end devs don't ask themselves enough.

I regularly take my copy of one of the volumes of Knuth's TAOCP off the shelf.

The stuff in those books will never get old, and I often find myself searching for some algorithm or concept that I know I've skimmed over in the past, but no web-searches or LLMs can give me an answer on.

I think it may be due to the lack of open, digital copies of TAOCP available for pillage, as well as the fact that the books don't target a particular language.

You're correct. You've just paid it on every app store purchase, and every in app purchase. That's because Apple, despite trying, have failed to completely lock in the payment infrastructure.

I've been playing piano for over 40 years and other instruments almost as long. I'm a massive fan of classical music. If you think metal bands don't understand rhythm you obviously haven't listened to much.

I'm not claiming any band to be profound, but many have complex interplay between multiple rhythms, very non standard chord progressions, often non standard tunings, and even microtonal instrumentation.

The specific values of all of the settings on a synthesizer (including the inputs and outputs of any cables in a modular synth) have been referred to as a "patch" for a very long time. That's why the cables are known as "patch cables".

If you, for example, download sysex files for a DX7, they will often be referred to as "patches".

Many classical musicians have only a cursory understanding of mathematics. Many modern musicians are pushing the boundaries. There's a reason there's a genre named "math rock". Also, Jazz probably pushed the maths of music beyond classical music. As a last example, listen to some Meshuggah :-)

There aren't 8 subdivisions in an octave in western music either. Well, there are in any given scale, but there are also many scales. "Octave" is a misleading term. Given that it's just a doubling of frequency, the term is sort of as good as any other, and that douibling exists in pretty much all cultures that have developed string, pipe or other resonant body based music (including hitting hollow logs and plucking vibrating reeds / sticks / tines).

It's pretty much the foundational idea of any modality. No matter how you divide it up, the purest harmony is doubling or halving.

Personally, I'd love to see / read / hear more about the way RME do what they do. I know they basically update the fpga on the devices in lock step with the drivers, which allows them to do all sorts of magic (low CPU usage, zero latency recording of each raw channel being one of them) but I'd love an interview or article from some of the hardware and software people from RME. They have been rock solid and basically future proof for decades and I think the entire hardware and software industries could learn something from the way they do things.

Incredible products, definitely worth the premium.
