I think we need to stop using the term "dupe" as if there was some originality somewhere that was not built upon or copied what already existed.

What's wrong if the roles of USA and China are reversed in technology? Why does the rest of the world care? It's not as if USA has done a great good for the world, and China has evil intentions towards the world. Infact it is the opposite in the case of AI so far.

Intelligence will be free. Inference is not. So the battle would shift from bench marks to token pricing. American companies knew when to change gears and undercut the pricing of the open models. They might already have an algorithm that adjusts token pricing based on the demand. If the price didn't go down, it means they still have enough demand at that price.

Add another dimension - users tightening their purse on AI spend as the reality of returns hits them. Large companies might go for locally hosted models.

"Dupe" might need to be more specific. What is copied? Is it design, brand name, quality, parts or functionality? What is not to be copied? and why?

Dupe might affect the seller, but customer doesn't care much. In the past, people had to go by brand name as an assurance of quality. We have other means now. Reviews from other buyers, detailed specifications, return policies - all reduced the moat of branding. People can now buy any brand that has specifications they want, use reviews for quality assurance and it's easy to return the product if required. Brand is not playing the same role it used to.

You are basically calling out the fact that the Emperor has no clothes. Many said this before. While it is a true statement, it is not going to help. Because, as you rightly said, it is a mania - like the tulip mania of 17th century or the manias of many forms today. The mania continues to evolve and flourish through it's peak and then go down. For that matter, there is hardly anything that is not a mania. Think of agile processes, timesheets, LoC based productivity, ...

The corporate mindset keeps going through different mania at different times. It could be initiated by some consulting gurus (processes), or some security nerds (strap yourself down until you can't move), or peer pressure (fear of missing out), or presentation goals (show that you are a AI-powered and modern company).

We can't remove or stop manias. Infact that is not the goal. The music should go on and the dance should go on. Everyone is in this dance - customers, businesses, supply chains, governments, thinkers and philosophers. It's a world-wide dance. So it's OK. The music track won't last forever. It will change and dance will change.

You do need to know about a person to understand why he did a project that he did. What were his motivations and goals? That is the point here which can be inferred from his bio/talks.

If your approach to assess something is only by learning about the person, and not by what they did or said then you need to know about me as well. But you came to conclusions without knowing about me, which violates your own principle.

Industrial production would far exceed the needs of people in the target markets. Supply chains are also highly streamlined. Some amazon boxes would go to dump unopened, after delivering to customer.

The state of perishable goods is much worse. A lot is dumped in food and short shelf-life items. Nothing can be done here. This is not even a brand issue.

Do not give license to industrial production or imports that far exceeds the needs of people in that region.

You don't need to know about the person, to understand what is done here. This is no invention or profound deed. Anyone using the open-weights TTS models can do this. Talk about the overall goal.

That's how they will present it. But the direction is clear. It can replace a human chanting professional. If it can, it will. The future is not far off where an AI bot will interact with the users, asking their family name etc and weave it into the chanting.

You make two big assumptions - 1) The problem is really a problem, it is not invented by the consultant, it is well defined, deserves "solving", 2) the person or team is the one who is responsible for doing something about it. 3) "Solving" is justified by overall cost-benefit view.

The "pushing around" could be about letting the right person/team handle it. "Preserving" could be due to lack of business justification to "solve" it. Promoting new problem could be due to poor understanding of the problem and solution, usually due to consultants pushing for it.

What's the point anyway? If you really love your traditions, slokas and chanting, please keep it as natural as possible, instead of plasticizing it to the core.

This is third level of mechanizing the sacred rituals. First - we lost the live chanting due to recorded recitals with human voice. Then we lost the experience of presence due to online streaming. And now even human voice is lost - the broken chanting is generated. So, combined all together, you have a streaming of the rituals which was performed by recorded chanting that never really involved a human reading the sloka.

Technology and gadgets used to sound quite amazing, cute and desirable to have and experience. But now they look like plastic feed, triggering a vomit feel. I think revolt against anything tech is around the corner.

The cutting edge technology is being tested with pelican drawings and video creation. You may argue that this is just testing, but actual mainstream use of this tech won't be far off from these tests.

It's exactly the same strategy followed by the Silicon Valley for the past 3 decades to beat the IBM-era companies. Google gave everything free. Social media stuff was free. Video calls are free. Bloggers gave content for free. A lot ot open-source product developers did managed offerings of the free products.

Unfortunately, educating people against some technology is not going to help. It should be a state-level mandate to have any effect. Most people are discretion-less, sheep-minded money pockets. You are making a big assumption that it is your decision to automate or not to automate and that everything is in your control. In large orgs, even small workflows touch teams that are not under one command. They will have disparate technologies, different release schedules, processes and complex ownerships. Forget automation, if it works by manual methods, then it is doing great.

I read about Amish people and I have very high respect for their traditions. Sometime I believe that's exactly how the society should be guided. It's not about getting harder and harder to keep refusing the modern practices. It is about slowing the adoption of such practices to ensure that the community still stays above the individual. I hope they can slow it down as much as possible.

"Individualism is frowned upon" - that's a great way to keep the community stronger. I experienced this in my community from South India. People are hardly known by their own names. Everyone was called by their family name only or something like "grandson of XYZ".

"Too much education causes separation" - another true observation, affects Indian families a lot. Each generation is alienated from its previous generation, only because of education, jobs and foreign living.
