I find 'IDEs' a bit cluttered. For web development I use Sublime[0], a browser with Live Reload[1] and that's it. The browser's devtools are also handy.

I swing between my comfort zone, and growth mindset. Sometimes projects just become maintenance mode for a while, other times I expand my knowledge, try new things, learn from mistakes. You have to have a beginner's mind, and be willing to look pathetic on your first try and leave ego at the door. Become vulnerable.

Caveat: This is a Flatpak and not all Linux distros ship with Flatpak. But I'll give it a whirl in my Fedora virtual machine. I've seen many flavors of this type of tool floating about, most of them leveraging Tesseract[0], and I've tried a few of them. It fails badly on grainy / noisy images or where the text is warped or skewed in some way. It will not solve CAPTCHAs for you!

You can encrypt DNS with DoH if you want, but the DoH provider still sees its you. You can take it a step further with Oblivious DNS over HTTPS if you really want to conceal DNS activity[1]. Note: this technology is rather new and experimental.

Snapchat was supposed to be the WhatsApp / Insta / Facebook killer, but its value is lower than all those platforms. It's still rather niche. In terms of privacy it's still a nightmare and looks like it won't be fixed soon because it's easy to monitor and the authorities like that.
Perplexity markets itself as a 'Google Killer'. We'll see about that.
I gave TikTok a whirl about a year ago just to see what the fuss was about, and was disappointed. It wasn't long before I got videos about eating disorders, bare knuckle boxing, and videos on how to cope with depression. I much prefer Facebook & Instagram Reels. It's more sanitized, and Facebook can gauge with more certainty what my preferences are since I've been feeding them with my data for over a decade now so they 'get' what I like.

But Linux is not some magic bullet that stops all malware, you have to practice good opsec and harden your environment too. How to do this is outside the scope of my comment. Harder to remember & doesn't work well with word-of-mouth marketing strategies. 'Just visit domain.com' versus 'just visit blog dot domain.com' the former has a ring to it, the latter doesn't.
Anything tangential to the problem you're working on. Ping-pong, hiking, walks on the beach, swimming, to name a few. I also found REM sleep or deep sleep to be very reparative. Maybe not 'problem solving' but it sets the stage for the rest of the day, where you need a clear head and no brain fog.
The operational security measures one has to take these days to secure crypto is insane. You have to build your own mini intelligence agency just to protect your digital crypto assets. You have to do:
- Principle of least privilege.
- Zero Trust.
- Compartmentation.
- Hardened Operating Systems with no malware and strong endpoint defense.
- Firewalls that whitelist only your IP and disavow everything else.
- 2FA/MFA/Biometrics auth for everything.
- Defense in Depth.
- Use crytography tools vetted from the community surrounding it, and use tools which are battle hardened.
Modern computing is very leaky and every node is malicious. You need extreme vigilance to safeguard crypto.
Are people up to the task of doing all this?

I don't own one, but this is a common complaint I've heard. I guess the trick is not to wear one 24/7 and take sporadic breaks. Just like we do with phones or desktop PCs. The dream of the AR/VR maxis is to have us all plugged in 24/7 but there's caveats to that.

Yes, dedicated Windows VM just for Skype is the way. Probably outside of OP's scope though. Skype is handy for making calls, although in the early days I noticed the calls had weird country code prefixes, like Cambodia and such. They've probably changed it since then, but it was fun bouncing calls through weird countries (which spooked some of my clients).
I never liked the seated, sedentary nature of programming. Over time though, I've forced myself to take regular breaks, say every 10 minutes to straighten out my spine, and every 60 mins I go for a longish walk to clear my head and repair my back. Any hard problems or puzzles I encountered usually get solved when walking, as my brain is in a different state and can problem-solve better.
There are ergonomic items you can buy for a home-lab situation or maybe the office splurged out on Herman Miller chairs, but no amount of ergonomic items (Vertical Mouse etc) will solve the sitting down problem. You have to do pattern interrupts and frequent (reparative) breaks.
This is known to increase productivity. If you're in your twenties you can probably get away with long sessions sitting down without major issues, but over time, sitting /will/ affect you if you're not doing interrupts and exercising/repairing yourself.
Maybe not 'weird' but certainly short domains have better SEO because they're typically harder to register, and thus are probably a heuristic in some search engine's algorithm and are treated differently (i.e upranked instead of downranked).

I like that DuckDuckGo uses Bing as a source and DDG acts as a proxy to Bing. Bing is a huge personal-data grab by Microsoft and all their recent AI is just cruft I will never use, personally.
My most sensitive searches are when I lookup people online. Google only gets you so far. With enough money, you can throw a few coins at data broker firms and get back solid 'dox' on many people. It depends on how online a person is, and how much they unwittingly divulged to various services (services that sell their data to people-search firms and other brokers).
I have the real name of several so called 'anonymous' online personalities, but I won't divulge this info. I was curious recently about a Twitter account posting under a pseudonym and wanted to see if their opsec was tight. Turns out it wasn't. Their real name was discovered in ~15 minutes with some heavy Googling.
Imagine if you can simply throw money at the problem and forgo Google entirely, getting not only their legal name, but other PII too?

Basically if something's vulnerable, it will be hacked: no exceptions. What motivates someone to hack? It used to be for the lolz, now people are submitting bug bounties to zero-day brokers. The landscape has changed. People don't hack for free anymore.

Ism-ism. Everyone going around loudly proclaiming their ideology is the 'best'. No one ideology will win. Socialism only works within a certain context. It doesn't scale well with huge countries. It works well in smaller ones though IMHO.
