Very true. I don't think this is the silver bullet that will end all attacks but it's one additional step to something better.
With Firefox 3, a huge error is displayed if I use a self-signed certificate which makes the user think this is not secure and they may leave.
I think breaks are more important than a nice chair. I set a timer to go off every hour. I get up, refill my water and/or coffee mug, and take a walk around the office to check in on the junior staff.
Many of my best ideas came just after stretching and human interaction.
I've been using http://www.websitesource.com for several years now. Uptime is good for a shared host. I would actually recommend hosting your mail elsewhere though. I use the free version of Google Apps which works perfectly.
Did you RTFA? BSD isn't Linux.
I think the reason it's used in a lot of hardware and OS X is because of the licensing. They don't need to release the source code after they've used other people's work for their own product.
I suppose that's OK since the developer agreed to the license but the rapid explosion of Linux is in my opinion indicative that developers prefer the GPL even with its flaws.
I use one every day and am typing this on one right now. I actually like it so much, I bought 2 more. One for work and one for home plus and extra on in my closet in case the company goes out of business.
The blank aspect is kinda cool but I really like the feel and sound of the thing. I don't know if I type any faster with it and finding some characters like % and ^ can be difficult at first.
I also know of several former co-workers that use them.
Use Awk or Perl. They are available on every Linux system already so it's highly portable and very powerful.
I think this is dependant on what you're doing with S3. I'm only using it for backup and use the tarball name and date/timestamp as the key name. This ensures that it's unique and easy to understand when you need to restore.
If I were going to use them for hosting my videos or something, I'd probably just use the GUID without the need for the MD5. Just make sure there's not chance of duplicates in the database schema and it should work.
I use Bacula for network backups and it does the same thing. All paths and filenames are stored as unique ID numbers.
I think putting together a startup and becoming a hacker are completely different things.
A hacker is someone who likes to play with the world around them. I don't even know if it's possible to become a hacker. If you've never been inclined to take apart your VCR or walkman then I'm not sure if hacking is for you.
If you just want to start something up, learn PHP and MySQL. It's easy and can run on just about any hosting account. Actually depending on what you're looking to do, a CMS like Drupal could work if your startup was just a news and review site or something.
But he needs blow to the head. I'm pretty sure Edison didn't walk around asking people similar questions.
People are surprising similar in all walks of life. People will read tons of articles about working out and never set foot in a gym. I know people with dozens of books on programming but don't know what a pointer is.
It's procrastination plain and simple. If you don't have the get up and go, you'll be a loser asking others for assistance in getting your business going.
Give it up, you're going to fail. If you have to ask something like that you've already lost. It's obvious you're just in it for the cash.
You can get a loan and have someone do it for you which would just make you a VC or make it yourself. For the latter to work you need to be a geek with talent and tenacity. The sort of person who wouldn't need to ask that question for support.
In the end, less than %1 will make it and you will probably not fall into that 1%. If you really wanted to create something you would be coding, reading, and getting your hands dirty.
All dynamic sites are hack-able.

I recently interviewed for a startup and decided to pass. They had a cool project and what seemed like cool people but their business model was prone to lawsuits and were still not generating money. I don't want to work for a company that relies only on VC funding.
