Reminder that you don't need a powerful transcoding server and engine - I have been running for years with simple WebDAV on my NAS, and Infuse as a comfortable client on all apple devices.

My guess is that action cameras are 20 % need (professionals, documentary crews etc) and 80 % fashion (people buying them and them using them for a few shots twice a year on the holiday), and the fashion component peak is over.

We build a software that enhances overall productivity and automating things, all of this enables us to extract natural resources faster and cheaper, thus putting out more CO2 into atmosphere.

The end state is to have a direct humanless assembly line turning Earth into cheap crap for monkeys to use once and throw away, with ginormous global GDP. Happiness for everyone.

I find it hard to believe xcodegen is in a state where it would reliably generate xcodeproj for all edge states (widgets, watchos app, notification extensions …) - it certainly wasn’t when I last tried it for Weathergraph few years ago.

That said, it might be well enough for simpler apps.

It is highly likely the 50k undocumented immigrants aren't "a drag on the economy" but "people increasing margins of business by being exploited in almost slave-like fashion, and doing the work you don't want your kids to do".

Om Malik has died 27 days ago

I paused to read whenever a new Om’s essay popped up in the RSS feed; for me, Om was an uniquely observant voice of tech, who never compromised and always looked at the world from a human perspective.

This has been one of my favorite ones, reminding us to simply remain human in the face of incentive systems pushing us away from that goal: https://om.co/2026/04/08/banksy-satoshi-the-unmasking-impuls...

Om was attentive to details and generous to share - when he discovered my weather app (https://x.com/om/status/1579948290745176064), he was so kind as to write a whole article about it, without me asking for it in any way: https://om.co/2022/10/11/weathergraph/

I was so proud to be able to send Om a lifetime license. I wish he had gotten several more decades of use out of it.

Thank you, Om!

… and over time you find you have become an ISP for child p*rn distributors, and that your only choice is whether you want to know it or not (Auschwitz guards recommend the second option, however that’s not available for unbroken human beings).

Yes, Mr. Market will pay you handsomely for helping someone anonymously stream a torture of kidnapped child.

No, as a society, we decided we don't want that to happen even though it is technically possible.

There are horrible people, and they are drawn as moths to any oblivious operator willing to close his eyes (sorry, wanted to say "use e2e encryption" of course).
