It is amazing and confusing to me, too, everytime again I read something like that, e.g. also for "animals have feelings, empathy" etc... seriously, really? Ask anybody who has a pet or observed animals in freedom for a longer time! How can you assume the opposite to begin with, please?

And it is also so directly obvious for most, in the end they are us... we just have developed recordable speech and have the best "hands" it seems... we are not too far off from "them".

On-topic: Look at this parrot getting the drop better than most ravers there https://www.instagram.com/reel/C8YwaMitT4F/?igsh=Ym5nNW00MDh... :D

The Berlin scene is partly very touristy, what is also good for the city (and sad to let the clubs go), but please also don't underrate it - there are still so many clubs, you just need to find your more undergroundy experience ;) As a tourist, of course, you are also part of the problem, but also well welcome. Every "hype" is not true and show quickly symptoms, and everything was always better back in time, but there is still a lot of reason for Berlin ;)

Definitely, don't know why not more places are like that. The majority if techno clubs does it. There is a reason more clubs are also dark etc.. not only to hide the maybe existing wasted faces, but also to completely let go and dissolve in the music, this is very necessary.

I generally agree, but also disagree. The problem with drugs and people is that they usually overdo everything and dont know their limits. Who figures that out can also have their fun 8+ hours even at age, with a limited amount of alcohol(+weed) consumption at a certain constant level ;)

And then there are also that amazing sober ravers who can do 8-12hrs even without any drug. Shouldn't be underestimated how much some people like the music and their trancy dance therapy. (but yeah, those only also buy water/cola/maté).

And even this comment will get a lot of explanations why cars and the infrastructure as it is is absolutely necessary for them. Yes, given your setting you built and the only pov you can imagine! The opposite is easy, fun, and proven in many places to work well and better;)

and it's not end-to-end encryption this time. Not exactly.

Not exactly, but as you mention that... of course, if you could open up that too, that would be great. lol ;)

Why are these Orwellesque desires not more frowned upon? Our crimefighters barely need it, they stay as incompetent as before, but our freedoms and civil rights will suffer, a lot. Even the most conservative ones should be afraid of what they constantly try to enable in face of all the right wing pushes everywhere.. social and even most liberal parties don't hold against it, it is shocking and hilarious at the same time.

It is a matter of getting used to, childhood imprint.

Most Europeans will smell and taste the chlorine immediately, even in a coke in a fast food chain in the US where they mix that tap water in, or even just in ice cubes.

This conditioning works also the other way round. Read often that Americans usually find the tap water in Europe to be not "fresh", because of the missing chlorine.

I don't think there is any self-lying involved. People notice it the first time going and trying, certainly not because they have been subconsciously indoctrinated. Personally strongly confirm!

Sorry if I gave that impression, but it is wrong. "I feel" indicates that this is a not very certain assumption by me, and "We wouldn't be where we are" meant that I believe this is a contributing factor, not the only reason, I even gave one of many others (unfair distribution) few words later. shrug

Yeah, at the same time:

https://www.manager-magazin.de/unternehmen/volkswagen-chef-d... "Germany much better than the picture painted"

https://www.deutschlandfunk.de/arbeitslosenquote-im-euroraum... "Unemployed rate at its lowest in the EU"

Similarly, in the US: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/may/22/poll... "Majority of Americans wrongly believe US is in recession"

We wouldn't be where we are with right-wing votes if we wouldn't have this much panic pessimistic breaking news everywhere I feel. There are definitely more perspectives. (And yes I know, unfair distribution plays also a huge part in very different perspectives..).

Get the point, but no, actually not, we join nouns, not sentences ;) (but english does, too, just with spaces between?)

Further especially that word few germans could tell you why it is called like that:

Spieß is spear, so Spießbürger/Spießer is just a spear citizen, or a speary?! ;)

(One explanation is the medieval simple citizen that could not afford a better weapon than a simple spear. Not even sure if the only explanation attempt though..)

"Demystifying" is a big word for what the original docs document quite well, and is also not like you couldn't read and understand that in few hours, if you are not totally foreign to protocol design and serialization? This post gives even much less information?!

Fully agreed, those books are no metaphor but exploring sci-fi ideas.. and especially because at the beginning, it imo gives a pretty realistic inside perspective from inside China. One might question "realistic" but I mean it in a way that the author also stated in the interview, staying outside of politics and not burning any bridges. Just read a bit between the lines, and accept that it is fiction.

(I'm not sure why people always need to bolt on those interpretations, they are maybe eventually more true with Tolkien as he definitely took some experiences into his fantasy, but also believing him that there were not any allegoric intentions, just fantasy creation. You are always to some degree what made you...)

There are much better longer argumentations and essays out there which are easy to find.. two badly rephrased prime args for me:

- It is not about you but fundamental rights in our society that are important. Argueing like "I don't have any of that sort of stuff" is like saying "I'm not gay, so what do I care about gay rights" (replace with any disadvantaged group and don't blame me for bad example please).

- Things can quickly change, even when done with nothing bad in mind. You find countless misuses with collected data, prime example is again the Nazis that rolled into Dutch (or Belgium?) and abused the recorded religions. However, today in almost any democracy imagination has not to be taken too far that another worse power comes to real power. Just look at threats Trump, or mostly right wing parties in Europe already made.

IDs are rarely checked here in EU, why so? Or maybe rarely is exaggerated, but 50/50 at least. What security issue arises besides security theater, that's a different checkpoint.

What I do not understand, what is creative here? If he had a buddy pass, and was denied because of a full plane, how could he hope for an empty seat? That sounds super dumb?

2nd I don't understand: The scanning at the gate doesn't check for tickets scanned twice? It marks people off, not? I thought that is how they call sometimes missing people out? So why were there no problems when he or the real owner scanned the ticket a second time?

But there's the _small_ matter of major inconvenience with places inaccessible by public transport, erratic public transport, bad last-mile solutions with private transportation waiting to fleece us for all we're worth,

Where do you live? I see places becoming inaccessible by car due to missing parking places and traffic jams and just love to take a bike / scooter / public transport (which could be much better even if we'd put more focus there, and would also help the poorer people) or by feet. The very few occasions I need a car could be handled by car sharing or delivery services.. I regret having bought one (:
