Yep, any varient of jetbrains with their awesome sql +++ support beats this and most others hands down. Especially if you're someone who'd actually use this for real work. Like a statistician/analyst
HN user

Maybe they should have said "our mathematical models need X coverage of population to <observe> reliably".
At least people could have a slightly more informed sense of outrage then.
This is fucking awesome woooh! (Not sarcasm, I guess I'll find out next week what getting crfsuite setup and adding training data is like. I hope not traumatizing but either way I have very good reasons to invest tons of time into project for job where we parse every craz-ily formatted address in U.S. postal region..like all the time re-parse over and over and over..all work and no play makes jack a dull boy)
I don't think the kind of people who would be interested in this project really care about having to sign in to google.
Ah, thanks.
I clicked on the sign-in via google but then nothing else happened after authorizing identifying me..
No email, nothing. Maybe they are understandably experiencing some high loads or something. It'd be nice to quickly update web page to state that though if true.
UPDATE: Never mind, see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8281116
This is sweet as f- in terms of showing off a full platform as needed by weirdo stats people for their models plus enough data to choke on...
And the ipython + docker container to wrap it all up is just kind of showing off.. I mean really.(haha no I want it bad..or some people I know would if they could give up R fetish)
That's the point, both of them in fact. It's likely that to error on side if caution they rarely in fact do find and purge all your associated "identities" / records..
So why are they even bothering? Especially since they could collect much less while greatly increasing safe purge of your records if they wanted to. Targeting people for advertising is not a cursory half assed random thing to advertisers. It's their bread and butter. Why is this link even on hn?
I'd have to concur. I have a lot of experience and first hand knowledge targeting and identifying unique us voters(for good, or at least not republicans)and the big tell that this is bullshit is the one crucial piece of data they don't ask for other than name: DOB.
I can't get too detailed with things but they're either a scan or they're going to do a very poor matching job and likely not remove very many people successfully. Not enough for this to not kind of feel very wasteful.
I'm under impression advertising data middlemen or "wizards of" are quite a bit more sophisticated than their questions would lead you to believe.. So yeah scratch that.
My conclusion now this is either a scam or done in bad faith for some reason that we aren't aware of yet.
I found osx white text being bolder less easy to read in majority of cases it presented me with.
Though I had to fight temptation to pick white anyway because I thought that "might be" what more l33t people would think is better..
Ohhh ..uhhh shit. Well, good point then. Glad I asked. =/
Hey wait, http://www.time4popcorn.eu/ app compared to one referenced in this article is much much more functionally complete for what you see right now today.
Like tv series / playback torrent network seems to always work immediately. The get-popcorn app as it is now provides none of it.
So "blah blah blah" about all the promises and project mission. If you just want to have some f-in popcorn time enjoyment. If get-popcorn ends up being better at some point great, til then ...
http://www.time4popcorn.eu/ is the only popcorn for me. =)
What-the-fuck-ever
To the whole article. I read the dhh article, Kent did not. The people practicing umm "agility" did a better job handling some of the root issues DHH brought up.
I know some statisticians / analyst minded people your generous contribution may make extremely happy. Myself as well of course.
Thank you very very much in advance. This is a really huge deal. Even for general things like academic research. We shall see.
I was under impression from reading another article that setting the correct kernel io scheduler to use helps with a related concept, maybe possibly: http://www.cybertec.at/postgresql-linux-kernel-io-tuning/
"sync; sync; sync; shutdown -r now"
I remember some sort of magic invocation like that years ago for our medical "device" product we had to manage hundreds of remote node instances of. Something along those lines. I don't remember why the developer (Gabe) came up with sync three times being magic number. Maybe three times was just paranoia. =)
I strongly contest that assertion. I'd say an honest variation would be the dream of scala is an improvement.
Maybe when some of these new fancy tools like Graal become more polished and ready the dream that was scala can start to happen vs reality you get when using it. I'd be happy to see that happen.
=) This assumes you have correctly defined what"it" is and does? Or what current is? Current isn't on tv.
Makes sense hn would too vote such a stupid idea. If it didn't exist already something like it would have to be created.
Who cares? The best font is consolas. No debate, just is.
The website is marijuanamajority.com.
Do we really need techcrunch to interpret for us? Who's idea was that?
Your arguments all sound perfectly logical and valid to me. Love of the "spirit" of open source projects and other things have no place in making decisions that can have such a gigantic effect on all manner of people / outcomes of project/ etc. Not if you're going to actually be responsible for dealing with bad decisions personally. Geocoding I know is definitely a giant furrball of fuck I've learned in the past year. Thinking of building a map app and associated services like this is mind boggling to imagine.
If we're going to talk about time, let's not forget a book I read as a child - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Wrinkle_in_Time. I believe they win the "who used tesseract first" award. At least as far as this thread is concerned for now.
To be honest though, my view is very biased because I don't care about the ocr project at all. I'm sure it's a very nice project, but hardly a tesseract really.. =p
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesseract "In geometry, the tesseract, also called an 8-cell or regular octachoron or cubic prism, is the four-dimensional analog of the cube. The tesseract is to the cube as the cube is to the square. Just as the surface of the cube consists of 6 square faces, the hypersurface of the tesseract consists of 8 cubical cells."
Looks like the perfect name to me. Sounds like the "other" project already has an established name of "tesseract ocr", don't see any reason why this library would be confused with that. Lame for people to focus on this instead of the crazy beautiful api that comes with this thing:
Who really cares what yammer does or says? I wasn't all that impressed with the app when using it. Are they a company anyone actually actively seeks out for employment as anything other than "I can't find anything I like, might as well"?... Fail
For some reason I viewed data science as all that (only as a means to an end) plus statistical analysis. Only one way to find out. =p
Try logging out and then reading. I'm on iPhone 4 / iOS 5.1. Endless redirects for me, all the way down..
I hate articles I can't read on my mobile iOS device due to endless redirects. Esp when they sound like interesting articles. Wtf google + team?
No it's not. Code as patch becoming code now becomes immediately your problem and headache. Unless it's exactly how the core devs would write it.
Don't even get me started on what I think about accepting or submitting patches for code I don't actually plan on using on a day to day basis.
Maybe I'm alone in thinking this but having been in the position of reviewing more than a few non-trivial bugfix patches myself I think I might tend to agree with Kevin.
Sure it's great people are excited and want to contribute but all that excitement is due to the love and care people sweated in to making every single line in that codebase as perfect / performant / easy to understand as possible.
Patches almost never add to something like that. ESP not on such a small focused library. Truth be told most of the time on open source projects you're accepting patches simply to get more community involvement and acceptance. Guava doesn't need acceptance, it has been lovingly accepted already. If you want open armed love go to apache commons.
If you want perfect performant code you can use and trust consistently go to guava.
I'm grateful and happy that it exists and it is a pleasure and delight every time I incorporate a little bit more into my codebase, slowly.
