The initial iPhone OS, before it was called iOS, shipped without copy and paste or 3G at a time when all mobile operating systems had both copy and paste as well as shipped with 3G on their premium models. The first iPhone certainly qualified as a Premium Device.
Video and streaming media is not at all alone. Think of it as just being a more geek friendly topic as opposed to the patent litigation that passes for innovation for everything from aviation and to exercise equipment.
I get that the overwhelming majority of Hacker News supports Barack Obama and feels the need to be very vocal in their support of him online. I understand that every two to four years their is a lot of online discussion about how evil Republicans are and how they hold us back in every way. I understand that acknowledging this as politics and not as the absolute truth to the way things have to be is very unpopular online, even on this site which is supposed to be relatively free of politics. But why do I always feel left out? I don't want to participate in the months of hate-Hate-HATE to whatever Republican candidate happens to be in the running for office. I personally don't think Romney is all that bad, and I don't think that Obama is all that good. I like technical things, not political things.

My advice is to not regret having regrets. It's natural to have regrets so jumping to acceptance is the best method to avoid the self-help dependency cycle that leads to a lot of wasted time and money. At least it works for me.

This is 100% not true. GPL v1 and v2 are fine and v3 has some questions that most people avoid by sticking to v2 of the license. There are, however, GPL v3 licensed apps in the Apple App Store which you can find if you only looked.
Members of the U.S. Congress[1] have looked into the privacy implications of apps which have "call home" features. Obviously, nothing was done and this is still an issue. Go figure.
Some apps like the Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn apps would upload the users' address books, scrape calendar information, access email/SMS, etc.[2] I think that has changed from "industry standard" to "frowned upon".

The word "irony" is frequently misused and doesn't mean "unintended consequences" or "rain on your wedding day". Irony would mean that those who supported drilling were actively trying to increase CO2 emissions and failed. That was not the intention of the Oil Lobby.

If you are not applying for the Y-combinator or are an alumni, you will tend to have a degraded experience to those that are in the "IN" group. Sorry to see that this affects you, but I am in the same boat. I've learned to just use this site as a kind of tech bookmaking site curated by popular trends. Sometimes there are interesting or insightful comments, but the overwhelming number of comments revolve around social politics or corporate espionage like discouraging competitors in the emerging markets.

I don't care what your politics are but the Democratic party is not the party that wants to stop the Republicans[2] from shutting down the Internet as we know it. Most people on HN probably think they do, however.

Sorry, but it appears to me to be that he wants as most coding done as possible before he invariable cuts you out of the deal. Going public would mean that you have a kind of partnership and are therefore entitled to equity. By keeping it private, or in a prototype phase, he can keep the number of people who are aware you are working together to a minimum.
Sounds like a big waste of money for me. Too bad AI is so hard, and we are experimenting with a human flagging system. Unlike DMCA notices in business sector, this apparently doesn't even seem to depend have context to the significance of the transgressions, as it appears to depend on automated content collection from whatever sources they can muster.

In some strange way, the placebo effect has its own placebo effect. People will tend to not voice their issues because they wish to stay on track for their treatment, get out of the doctor's office and on with their life.
After all, a guy isn't going to just blurt out erectile problems if he is led to believe by the expert through the error of omission that erectile problems aren't a side effect. Its just too embarrassing.
But look at all those comments Yegge is getting. He has long been an engaging, comedic writer with a very technical slant, but this really pushes him into the mainstream. People will look forward to the Steve Yegge show providing them entertainment in the same way Mike Daisey provides entertainment through The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs.
To be fair to "I Can Haz Cheezeburger", which admittedly is hard to do on forum like this, it brings entertainment to millions of all ages and hurts no one. Where are the negative side effects in that?

Nixon[2] also tried to get Universal Health Care for all low-income and employed Americans, but it was blocked by Senator Edward Kennedy and other Democrats. Maybe politics[3] is just the art of getting the state to delegate property rights, even intellectual property, rather than itself productive pursuit.
I postulate[4] that discussions in political spectrum are no more a valuable expenditure of time and resources than painting styles being be a point of reference for programmers.
In summary this topic is an "Unknown or expired link" to me.
