I think the post-2020 incarnation of HN should have a permanently pinned post about how to suck your own dick, because that’s all that’s happening around here at this point. With appropriate primary translations, such as Hindu.

I'm rate-limited because @dang thinks I’m a #BadBoy4Lyfe, so if I appear to drop out of a conversation at a key point or not answer a direct question I probably just ran out of comments for the day. I will sometimes try to edit the original comment w/noting of this to continue any ongoing conversations, to the degree to which it’s possible.

Medical care in the United States is completely captured & dictated by a bonafide cartel of narcissistic attention-seeking sociopaths focused on extracting as much $USD & perceived social status as near-unfathomably possible, along with sucking their own dicks.

Unfortunately, many have to learn this the hard way often only after it’s too late. Once you’re aware though, you would be a fool to voluntarily live within this system.

*note – despite @dang’s insistence of my Bad Boy tendencies, only one of us has previous superiors attending homo-techbro tier Diddy Parties.

> Also I'm getting my back nerves burned finally after trying to get a pain remediation surgery for a long time. Better late than never.

Best of luck with this. Back (and neck) pain really, truly sucks. Very under-treated in the U.S. as well. IME, completely stifles the ability to enter a “flow” state of cognitive function.

> But this should be a cautionary warning of what might also happen anyone if you associate with things that are perceived as criminal in nature.

Opioid painkillers are associated with “things that are criminal in nature” because a certain segment of every society does and will suck, nearly no matter what. Does this mean that everybody in pain should just suffer and let their education, career, and family be taken from them before their time?

Very cool how we’re letting a private company become the modern day SS. Especially hilarious when the dude in charge literally grew up in an ex-Nazi stronghold in Namibia.

Should be an absolute red mark to have this company or any affiliated with it in your CV. Absolutely anti-societal.

> because most israelis feel it's a matter of survival.

How do you think Palestinians have felt living in an open air prison next to genocidal maniacs with zero ability to control themselves for the past 50 years. USS Liberty should’ve been the end of things, but it wasn’t.

Not paying with cash 11 months ago

> Why waste an entire cash dispenser on fives when it could instead be handing out fifties (or at least tens)... especially at an ATM!?

Hacker News user unaware Poor People^tm exist

> Nobody is forcing a diagnosis on somebody who doesn't want it.

Ahh, you sweet summer child

Tell that to all multiple sclerosis patients that were tortured by psych departments of hospitals before (and after) the MRI machine was created.

Tell that to sleep apnea patients (especially the women, especially especially the younger thinner women in whom they say “it cannot happen to”) that are given a psych diagnoses for seeking treatment for symptoms before sleep disordered breathing issues are ever even brought into question.

The main problem is that DSM diagnoses are indeed forced on people. Usually highly incorrectly, too.

> This is confusing to say the least, the US are providing Israel with heavy hardware and ammunition to kill the Palestinian civilians, and then they want to take the children victims for medical care?! Why the US plays on both sides?

The US taxpayer has always paid for Israel’s citizens healthcare, while US citizens go without healthcare and ration their necessary medicine. Makes you wonder how such leverage can exist.

> Elon cultivated a culture of no tolerance for BS and only having "A" Players on your team.

Funny take because I know multiple talented people who’ve worked SpaceX & Tesla who claim an extreme amount of bloat wrt earnestly negative-value employees in the engineering sectors. This was pre-2020 as well.

The best and only reasonable thing you can do to people that endanger or attempt to arrest the development of your children is to dispose of them. Calling CPS for anything but the absolute worst of cases is like telling somebody you want their kids to experience both prison rape and homelessness at the same time (this is essentially what foster kids where I’m from typically went through) If somebody is doing it just to fuck with you or because they have some grudge against you, I don’t really know any real thing to do other than dispose of them to protect your family.

> You're telling me you can just go to a Walgreens in the USA and get a bag of estrogen and start injecting it without the advice and monitoring of a doctor? Even though hormone replacement therapy can lead to all kinds of problems? Is this normal?

Go chug a quarter of a McBurgerStan sized bottle of Tylenol available at near every cornerstore in our country and you’ll literally fucking die a harrowing death. I do not even mildly see your point. Quite frankly those against open access to all medicine need to die. The harm a lack of accessibility causes to society at large is incalculable, because the disabled go unseen rotting away in their homes – if they’re so lucky to even have that.

> This is such an American thing that I find it hard to respond to,

It is actually a thinly veiled sociopath/psychopath/narcissist that has fully bought into hyper-capitalism being the endgame of humanity thing.

>There are people in my family who believe being gay will commit your afterlife to eternal torture, and it is their compassion that compels them to act in intolerance of people’s choice to love.

All you should have to do in cases like this is tell them you simply do not believe in the things they do and to not press it again. If they continue, things are obviously not coming from a place of compassion – they’re just selfish intolerant assholes.

As the article somewhat gets into, fatigue is a terrible descriptor for the litany of issues that can ravage one post-infection.

Seemingly mild mono (Epstein-Barr) absolutely ruined the brain of one of the most talented dual-major Mechanical/Electrical engineers at my university in his last year. Saw him crying in more than one of our professors offices after he tried to come back because he couldn’t think straight enough to do 8th grade math anymore. Never recovered to my knowledge of a few years after, but it’s been a few years since I’ve heard anything of him. Medical imaging, at that time, purportedly showed nothing wrong with his brain. No help to be had.

For those not actively following the situation, we’re well past the point where they offer and insist that you take the route of euthanasia before prescribing pain medicine in chronic painful conditions.

Does not bode well for a generation of people hunched over their desks leading sedentary lifestyles.

> can't help but suspect that a nontrivial percentage of the developing world is living below their full capacity due to related disease burdens, e.g. from this or other neglected tropical diseases.

WHO literally estimated 1 billion living people were infected with hookworm at some point throughout childhood. Once that happens in areas with poor food security to begin with your brain is likely fucked for life from stunted development due to childhood malnutrition.

Diminished capacity due to disease burden is definitely high.

> They set these off in public spaces and private residences. There are already reports that Israel murdered a 10 year old girl with this attack. Absolutely horrible.

People tend to do whatever they want when they’re raised since birth to believe everybody that is not one of their in-group is a quite literal subhuman not chosen by god

> for some reason my body on the left side is clenching up, with this constant pulling on my head, pulling down and to the left. I also have severe TMJ, again on the left, and constant headache

@computerdork do you have a tongue tie/lingual frenulum or narrow airways/diaphragmatic dysfunction? These things can cause extreme issues with the fascia that lead to things presenting in such a manner.

If you’ve made it to teens/adulthood, it’s typically missed by fucking everybody in the medical profession.

Terrible day for rain.

I like to think some day his daughter will appreciate getting to go through his HN comments & such.

I am extremely sorry you’re dealing with this.

I know you’re not after any advice and I don’t want to get your hopes up in any way. But I do hear about brain damage due to hyponatremia & subsequent improper sodium infusions somewhat frequently as I’m part of a diabetes insipidus medical group & this is a potential reality everybody taking Desmopressin faces.

I have seen a decent amount of anecdotal reporting of people stabilizing/recovering their cognition to some meaningful degree after a few years from the injury.
