Great news! We just started seeing theese dangerous huge ass US trucks on the streets in Norway the last year or so. The non-electric versions were priced out of market due to the emissions they put out.

Bartosz, your website is the most beautiful, glorious thing to ever grace my browser. I’m not even sure how to put it into words, but I LOVE YOU for doing what you do. Thank you for your brilliance. Thank you for making my day every time I visit. Never change. Please, just keep on being your awesome self.
This was a post hoc analysis of self report eating patterns from pre 2018. I don’t think the respondents were following specific diets, was even IF a thing then? One could assume the 8-hour group does include a people that skip breakfast, and binge out on junk later with no plan of eating healthy.
It does not seem like the authors made even the slightest effort to control for any confounds.
It was actually much better than that. The 25% is just the VAT. In addition there is a tax on new cars (fossil and hybrid) with elements for weight, emissions, and before 2017 also power. EVs were initially excempt all taxes, meaning you pretty much get more than twice as much car when chosing an EV. Combine that with no charge for EVs on toll roads (which are abundant here), rather expensive fossil fuels and cheap electricity, and you get a lot of EVs on the road. Great for the local environment, maybe not so great for the climate.
Sorry, meant to write 1500$ (or 15.000 NOK) which I believe is the current bid price. I never raced myself, but it does sound like great fun!
We have something similar in Norway, but shorter races on rally cross tracks. To keep drivers spending and tuning in check, the winners car is offered for sale at ~500$ after the race.
Tesla does this to some extent automatically.
> To ensure brakes remain responsive in cold and wet weather, Model 3 is equipped with brake disc wiping. When cold and wet weather is detected, this feature repeatedly applies an imperceptible amount of brake force to remove water from the surface of the brake discs.
Kongsberg Defence makes NASAMS (used to protect air space around the White House), and the Penguin, JSM, NSM missiles. They also build a bunch of other stuff like the RWS which is kind of well known. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protector_RWS
Maybe because he had hired a marketing guy to write his own client testimonials?
That is unfortunately not a tiny sample size for an exercise study..
In fact, the German in-joke is that the reason Tesla built a factory in Germany is so that the Germans could (try to) teach them how to fix the panel gaps. :-)
Having owned model Ys made in both China and Germany, I can tell you that the germans have not succeeded. The made in China Y was 100% no issues, while the German one looks like it has been in a collision already. Anecdotal, but this seems to be the pattern with cars delivered to Europe.
if they're not checking against the option of not eating breakfast at all, then they can't know that it is key to waking up more effectively.
They did, kind of. The factor "waketime to breakfast" [Fig 3] has a beta of .14, which is by far the strongest modifiable factor. This may suggest that not eating breakfast at all may be even better than eating a bowl of sugar.
I really do not understand how the authors fail to even mention this result in the paper.
The time between waking up and eating was a much stronger predictor of alertness than the different types of breakfast, so maybe _not_ eating breakfast at all is even better than eating a bowl of sugar?
How did the authors get away with not even mentioning the strongest modifiable predictor of alertness in their study? I cannot comprehend this.
Otherwise GREAT study.
Even if that was the case I disagree. Not spewing particle-filled exhaust gases in my neighborhood is wort a lot. I believe caring for the local environment is as important as for the global env.
I think I just understood that the official outlet for lottery tickets physical stores. Is that really so? As a European I am kind of baffled by this, as we (at least in my country) have had an official app for buying tickets for the state lottery and sports betting for ages.
What is the reason for that? Do the players only trust hard physical paper numbers?
Btw, the euro jackpot is about €120m, but still far from profitable.
Sensational? This was found to be a lost Swedish military training drone. https://www-forsvarsmakten-se.translate.goog/sv/aktuellt/201...
Thanks for the laugh!

This! Bonferroni correction across all conducted studies/analyses. I will suggest this next time I am reviewing a paper with crazy claims and shitty statistics.
In short, I like the stock.
All new cars sold from May 2022 in the EU will be fited with intelligent speed assistance systems (sign recognition etc) with speed limiters.

From May 2022 all new cars (and buses etc) sold in EU will be fitted with "Intelligent speed assistance (ISA)" systems. ISA meaning sign recognition or other means of detecting the legal speed limit, that limits engine power when the limit is exceeded [1, 2].
The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), the body which supports the introduction of ISAs, says the limiters would reduce collisions by 30%, and save around 25,000 lives within 15 years.
I think this is a really brave move by the EU, and a great example of use of technology to save human lives. I wonder if these kinds of "unpopular" legislations are rarely be made by local governments filled with politicians up for re-election every four years as it spells doom for chances re-election.

I think I see the point you are making now. If HIIT to a greater degree prompts less fit participants to drop out than in the other groups, it might skew the results. Not really sure in what direction though. If it had been a study on the effect of HIIT vs less intense training on cardiovascular fitness, this kind of dropout would bias the results in the direction of HIIT. I have no idea of what effect it would have when the variably of interest is mortality.
Nope, I think you may have missed a paragraph:
but all participants were included for statistical analysis of the primary outcome (intention-to-treat approach).
I think this study looks rather solid.
The work to bring flutter to the web is well underway. See https://medium.com/flutter-io/hummingbird-building-flutter-f...
Maybe Google IO will bring more news.
..damage to the inhabitants of earth. These are crimes against humanity, done with the purpose of gaining wealth. The fact that Germany goes after the guys on top is reassuring, and somehow restores my faith in society. Go EU!

Most of these are conveniently packaged in:
$ docker run -it --rm -p 8888:8888 jupyter/datascience-notebook
It was registered as a clinical trial (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01383161?term=NCT0138...). If you are concerned about p-hacking and replicability, what should worry you is that the outcome measures posted during registration are rather vague, i.e. ".. show less evidence of cognitive decline (as measured with neuropsychological assessments)"
At baseline, they performed an extensive neuropsychologist test battery, including a bunch of subtests:
-Trail Making Test A
-WAIS-III Digit Symbol Substitution
-WAIS-III Block Design Test
-Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (copy)
-Trail Making Test B
-Stroop Interference
-F.A.S.
-Buschke-Fuld Selective Reminding Test [SRT]
-Wechsler Memory Scale-3rd Edition [WMS-III]
-Verbal Paired Associations I
-Benton Visual Retention Test
-Buschke-Fuld SRT
-Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test [recall]
-WMS-III Verbal Paired Associations II
-Boston Naming Test
-Animal Naming Test
The outcome measures they report are: -TMT-A
-SRT
-BVMT-R
I would be _very_ surprised if those were the only tests they performed at followup after a 18 month (expensive) clinical trial. If these measures had been specified as the only outcome measures of interest, noone would question the results. But, when it was not registered, and when no other measures are reported, not even in the supplementary, the reader is left to wonder why that is.
