Honestly I don't get how you can perceive that he's happier, but still see him as having changed "for the worse".
Well, from his perspective it's a worse change in personality, but from his friend's perspective he could be happier. So he's recognizing that his friend seems happier despite the change in personality he perceives to be bad.

I happen to live in the (Northern) Midwest and I think you're just not in the right area. My city is ethnically and culturally diverse and I never encounter open racism. There are some of the more rural areas where that might be present. However, without statistics to back up any density of racism that may or may not be present it's hard to say whether race might be more of a factor here than anywhere else in the US.
Actually, I believe there is precedent for laws being struck down for pretty much exactly this reason. I think prohibition and the newly changing attitude against marijuana and the laws surrounding it are examples of this.
If the majority populace is committing illegal acts it's often because they believe the act should not be illegal. I believe that many/most laws exist for the exact opposite reason. Murder is illegal because most people believe it's wrong. So we created a law saying so.
Your site needs more detail about how your system functions and compares to existing captcha systems. All I could find on your site is that basically existing systems don't work and that yours does.
Exactly. Google has people with backpack cameras that get 'street view' images for walking paths and things like that.
I don't really find AT&T's idea fascinating in any way. I think it's just them trying to get around the rules. I have no doubt that if something like that were set in place, they would apply enormous pressure on all their users to request priority for whatever they (AT&T & others) want. Most people who don't know anything about the internet will just do as they are asked because "It's for their own good" - as I'm sure AT&T will pitch it that way. I for one - want NO prioritizing. I DO want them to quit complaining about their infrastructure and just upgrade it.

I'm really not sure why some of the other comments here are focusing on the playing of music on the stream. Obviously they've never watched someone gaming on twitch. Nobody watches twitch for the music someone is playing. People watch it to see other people play and talk about games. Music may be in the background but is often obscured by dialog and game sounds. It's not even close to the quality a youtube video for music supplies.
I'm sorry for your loss. My father passed away in December of 2012 (after a 9 year battle with cancer). In fact, I posted on here mere hours afterward in regards to a goodbye blog post someone wrote to their father that was submitted here. While things have been difficult, life will continue as it always has. Try to remember the good parts and celebrate their life rather than mourn their loss.
I would think zero is not good, but of course it's subjective. I like my toast crispy, but soft enough that it's not like a crouton.
Just seconding the KeePass notion. It works very well on other platforms as well. This is my preferred option for storing my passwords.

The author is talking about engineering not cs classes. That being said, I would completely agree with you, having been through a cs degree myself. Version control and working in a group with it would have been very beneficial in school. Although, when I was in school that would have meant svn not git which I have grown to love, but felt the pain of having to learn the hard way.

I'd have to agree. It's not the bandwidth that was the issue though. All those videos loading and playing at once crushed my poor browser (Waterfox 24) until I was able to slowly pause them one by one. This does, however, work mostly smooth on my version of Chrome (32).
I hate Windows 8 and refused to switch to it. I would actually consider it given his changes. MS - Hire this guy.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems as if they don't really mean they don't want girls to watch, so much as they don't want to target girls. I'm guessing that they think there's no way to write stories that will appeal to both sexes (which is completely stupid as many shows have appeal to both). Unfortunately, it seems like it's mostly due to the higher-ups in the networks that make these decisions (probably due to antiquated thinking).

Perhaps I am misinterpreting your statement, but it almost sounds like you blame PHP for the lack of documentation of those libraries. Really you should be blaming the authors of the libraries for poorly documenting them, or the developer who chose those libraries, for choosing ones with poor documentation.

I've had Bump for a few months, but don't use it much. Primarily because it's a pain to get it to actually connect to anything.
I could never get it to bump with my desktop (it's easier to just transfer the files through a network share).
I've been waiting ages for Mozilla to get their act together and make a 64 bit browser. I had never heard of this before. I just downloaded it and I'm trying it right now. So far it seems great. All my extensions seem to be working with no problems and it feels like it's faster. Thanks for the link!

I agree. I believe the most typing classes are focused on the word processing end of things rather than programming. While waiting to correct errors afterwards can be faster for regular documents, I would absolutely never do that when programming.
It's clear you haven't played FPS on console in years. Neither had I. I've always been a person who believed a PC was a must for FPS. Then my friend decided he was going to get Battlefield 3 on 360 not PC, so I did the same(with great hesitation about how I would do). It turns out - it's not so bad. I crank the rotation sensitivity way up, turn off auto-aim (frankly, it makes things worse) and I do well enough. I will, however, agree that aiming with mouse/keyboard would still be better & faster (at least for me). Battlefield is also a real FPS it's not third person like Gears of War. Luckily console and pc players don't play on the same servers, so the issue of having a leg-up on PC is moot.
Seriously. In my current location I am stuck with a 5mb connection because I'm at the edge of my DSL provider's range and the only cable option in the entire city is Charter (who has truly horrifying customer service AND awful reliability). A friend of mine in town has had to call Charter tech support many many times because of issues he has with their service. I think my entire city would abandon Charter if google dropped fiber here.
Does anyone else think they've started to just google whatever they're looking for - then submit a takedown for every url in the results? How else do you submit a takedown for a wikipedia page with a straight face?
I think dropping the quotes is a bad idea. This isn't javascript. However, I do agree about the => symbol. I would have preferred if in 5.4 they added support for ':' so, ['a':$b]. At which point, I'm sure someone will say that looks so similar to js syntax, why not drop the quotes? To which I say -personally- I just think it leads to more confusion. (Although for some reason I don't mind that in js - I know.. weird preferences.)
For me, it's not about what they may/may not have done. What enrages me is how the government has behaved. The level of force was ridiculous (i mean - helicopters... for a video pirate!?). Not to mention they stole lots of legitimate data and have barely provided a means to some people to retrieve their data. Which wouldn't have happened at all if the MAFIAA had it their way.
