The queries on my db server, fit the documented use case for this feature - lots of short live queries.
Isn't this entire discussion a false dichotomy? It seems from this thread the only two options for everyone is to donate to things that Gates does vs. things that Musk does.

On other note -
Is there an extension/app for HN that categorizes the posts into topics (based on some text analysis) & enables the user to filter them out from the feed? Feature akin to what lobste.rs provides.
This will basically enable me to filter out fluff stories that manage to rise up.
I saw a comment on HN sometime back and can't seem to find it now, but thought it had some merit. The gist of it was that enabling posts from mobile might lead to lower content quality as typing on phones is tougher and we tend to focus on a quick reply rather than a thought out discussion.
I personally use http://hn.premii.com on mobile & it has a good reading experience.

How is it different?
Currently, there are a few sites that enable users to save their cards for future transactions. But, these saved cards can be used to only pay on the particular merchant site.

Also, from his write up, it was serious lack of security on the results website.
More importantly, the focus from his write up should be less on the getting the data of the results, rather on the data itself. He goes on plot the scores vs frequency for all the courses taken up students and discovers a good case of tampering with the scores.
It does work as a one time thing.
But, having an extension like Stylebot installed and using a tiny custom CSS does offer an advantage - the CSS applies across the domain and takes effect every time the page is loaded.

On a unrelated note.
Adding a few lines of css (setting body width, font-size to 16, line-height to 1.4, Georgia for font and larger font size for headings ) makes for a decent reading experience.

This is incredible. I can only wonder in awe if something like this was implemented in online courses provided by say Udacity or Coursera. That would be a revolution in online education.
I have tried some of the cases:
1. Re-install whatsapp on the same phone and same SIM : you have to go through the entire setup process again. You're asked for your phone number, whatsapp sends a sms to that number to confirm. If you had previous backup of chats, it restores that.
2. Insert SIM into a new phone, without whatsapp previously installed: Same as 1.
3. Change SIM in the same phone and whatsapp previously installed: Nothing changes. Whatsapp runs using your previous number and that is displayed to all the contacts. On re-installing, 1. is repeated.
I did not go to MIT; heck I haven't been to the States. But, this post does really warm my heart!
I am about to graduate from an elite Indian university and I can only gasp at the vast difference. Restrictions on what courses you can take up as electives, exams that many a times test only on memory, the end goal to academics is to land a decent job, subpar internet access, etc.
But, I have benefitted greatly from MIT's OCW. I haven't signed up for any course on edX but have religiously completed a couple of courses on Udacity and eagerly waiting for NLP to commence on Coursera.
This is a wrong way to reason about it.
The article appears in an Indian paper, why single out U.S. as the country to compare to?
Also, just because other countries have other restrictions (wrong or otherwise), that doesn't justify such restrictions in India.

Just the link color was borrowed from Twitter Bootstrap. Rest is pretty much white background, max-width, padding between <center> elements on the page, bigger line-height :)
