Slightly off topic: Does anybody know how to remove something from AutoSuggestion?
It's been more than a year—and every time I type "Good night" it still suggests my ex-girlfriend.

Private is not the same thing as for profit. A non-profit is a private entity. They are not part of the public sector.
In fact, much healthcare was delivered like so pre-WW2. Still today, Kaiser and Cleveland Clinic are non-profit.
Have you considered purchasing your own weight rack?
Rogue sells a few pre-made one's that fold into the wall and occupy little space. It's a larger upfront investment but you can have free weight gear in your house and it will pay for itself fast.
If you're outside the USA, you can usually find a local welder / shop to make one for you.
Outside of strength training, you could go for long walks (I enjoy these).
If you find a fun community, Acro, BJJ, Climbing, Dance, Football / Soccer etc, you might have your day made.
You could also box more often.
2 suggestions.
1- Have kids on your own via a sperm donor. Lori Gottlieb details her journey doing just so in the excellent book, “¿Maybe you should talk to someone?”
2- Just have fun. With kids off the table, you can find someone you can talk to—a lot lower stakes. Someone you like depending on.
Good luck!!
My personal opinion is that prostitution by any person under 25 or maybe even 30 should be illegal. Once your brain is mature—sure, go ahead and do it. My experience with former prostitutes who started out young was that they were unaware of the price they eventually paid for their actions. They were taken advantage of because they were at a disadvantage. If you’re over 25 or 30 go ahead. Before that, it’s just so likely to end up wrong.
So wrong.
One of the most popular Chinese movies is “San Guo” or “3 Kingdoms”. This is historical fiction. There was a battle then just as there is still a battle now…in Taiwan.
From 1920 or so, a few groups, but mainly the CCP and the KMT (KuoMingTan) were battling for control of the mainland. The KMT lost, and so they fled to Taiwan. This battle is alive and well today.
In fact, rumor has it that Xi Jingping’s father whom served as the head of Canton wanted to secede in disagreement with Beijing and because there is still a history of Canton standing on its own.
China is fragmented still today.
I’ve seem 2 or 3 comments citing “no perceptible difference” in double blind studies on the topic of taste.
For such flavorful a subject, I find that there are so many N=1 cases such that you often need to give the speaker the benefit of the doubt.
Furthermore, processed and packaged food providers are not exactly good faith actors. If they happened to the be the ones funding the study, thrn sure—there would be no perceptiple difference because that is what they want to find. Citing the actual study and the background of the scientisits / reviewer is also important because to me, these entities need to prove trustworthiness.
Oh good. Glad to know I'm not the only one :)
When you are way in over your head, the way out is to push through the dip.
A startup will have that moment.
A theatre production will have that moment.
Pretty much everything will have that moment.
Kids too. My biological brother almost drowned me and we somehow worked it out.
Having kids is a very serious affair. They didnt choose to have you. You chose to have them. It is probably the most important arena in life. Time to step up to the plate.
It probably isn’t weird to think about returning the kids…but it is certainly weird to do it. More than weird, it is disrespectful, cowardly, and inconsiderate.
When you decide to have kids by adoption or by natural birth—they should never be abandoned.
No matter what they do—you are with them for those ~18 years and hopefully many more.
Unlike a spouse—kids are dependents. And your commitment is to make sure they have someone they can depend on.
I still love Objective-C. And to me—I'm so amazed that Apple added "Property Syntax" and "Properties". It's pretty easy to do much of this with Macros (which could have been baked into the system) and the language stays very simple.
You would have 2 lines of code per property but one fewer concept—and I think that is a much more important factor. To me—this was not the right way to add sugar.
Would love to know which countries don’t actually haze their doctors.
Here in DR docs get hazed out the Wazoo-being told they don’t have the status to look at the head surgeon in the eye or being tasked to get coffee.
Barcelona 92 was the Olympics that most benefited a city.
What a wonderful city! And amazing port / beach transformation.
Plus one on health. Probably the last thing I’ll stop paying for is my trainer / coach. (I am doing gymnastics)
My life has picked up so much momentum after that.
A failed relationship left a hole in my heart and existence. A failed business also sucked—but much less) Health is the first foot forward.
And sports with people is probably the best way to go! (OP you have the cash for a trainer. Do it!)
Would disagree on all services being of inferior quality. I think WeChat is better than WhatsApp. You can do everything and yet—it is still a straightforward, easy to use, Chat app.
The worst thing about AirPods—specifically the AirPods Pro is that they provoke tinnitus.
I can’t use them. And so it goes…
Because you’re a student: join a sports club.
Exercise cured SOOOOOO much.
Now, if you’re a little older and have some money you can do what I did: hire a personal trainer. The social part is important. The returns to this investment are obvious. Do it even if you are already athletic.
If you don’t have money and can’t join a sports club—rearrange your room, set it up for yoga. I also did this. If you’re really really bad, try DDPY. They even have a bed workout!
And if you can / need—do all three! I’ve actually sort of done all 3 over the past year and I feel so much better. :)
Dude, get off Upwork.
Do not do any work for them.
Invest that time and build your name on your own or some other platform.
Take your clients off Upwork.
Would love to see what you’re doing.
You don’t owe them a thing.
I have Acerola cherry too—but the only ones that fruit or flower are in full aun.
Will need to try small Caimito.
My understory plants are coffee and cacao. Also banana can grow.
We have a Zapote tree and we need to find a place between the Coconuts…your comment makes me want to find a new spot for the lemon tree…
Would love to connect!
Fantastic and subtle ways to generic-ize API and competition.
Greg—the funny thing is that the comment I read the comment where they explain notation differences as sort of saying that Smalltalk is the best thing on the planet and we should all aspire to be Smalltalk. No ambiguity with Smalltalk which is of course the whole point of readable, paintable code. The most easily maintainable code is that which does not need documentation.
On Smalltalk: Objective-C of course aspires to be Smalltalk. It just so happens that it's happy to be a muggle and integrate C as well. Good for us. Use Smalltalk for most things and C where necessary.
The dot syntax makes it difficult to parse whether you are dealing with a C struct or an Objective-C object.
Objective-C was grafted onto C with very clear demarcation lines.
We don’t mind being able to declare a property with `@property`. We do mind that they introduced dot syntax
So I use GNUstep and I really like it.
It is not an Apple emulator—it is an OPENstep emulator and so it implements the amazing Cocoa API and many mac/iOS frameworks can be used server side with minimal porting.
This makes it easy for what I intend to keep as a one person project forever or as long as Apple continues to support Objective-C.
You want to know an unpopular opinion?? I love Objective-C and I think it is better—way better than Swift. And—if you have discipline, the preprocessor is excellent.
So while many might say GNUstep is buggy, it is working for several of us—and happily so.
I do agree that the homepage is terrible and that what should be done is put some installer scripts so you can start using it immediately. An Ubuntu installation following the corresponding script here is foolproof: https://github.com/plaurent/gnustep-build
Check it out!!
You weren't asking about this—but the most frustrating thing on the new Mac platform is that I don't know where the text-fields are! They blend in to the white background.
So lost :/
Why is ML easier than social skills? I think because social skills hit your emotions.
With that said—some advice.
2 types of social skills:
1 - Approach
2 - Long term / friendship / partnership
Both are very different. I'm good at the first, but not great at the second.
For the first:
1 - Make sure you are healthy and getting healthier. Fitness first. (I recommend Partner Acrobatics—and once strong enough BJJ. These are also social. Best path to strength is through gymnastics). Get a personal trainer if you can.
2 - Learn to get over rejection. It will happen a bunch—by both males and females. A lot of people—especially older, already have friends. They don't need more.
3 - Join hobby-based groups. What do you really like? Do it with a group. Find a group. And make sure you really like what you do. The energy you give off will bring people to you.
For the long term:
1 - Time management is crucial.
2 - Invite people over for dinners
3 - Make sure you plan lots of activites
4 - Make sure you can view social events on your calendar app so you fill every day
5 - Learn to listen.
6 - Learn to follow up with people about really meaningful events / people / projects in their lives and call/see them every 3 months or less. Ideally you can find someone you talk to every day :) And then an ever growing number of people in the other buckets.
Good luck!!
Lockdown would be so miserable in this building.
This is why I moved from Barcelona to DR—to avoid this kind of thing.
Location : Dominican Republic (EU Citizen)
Remote: YES
Willing to relocate: Would consider EU or NYC
Technologies: Objective-C preferred (Swift, Python, .NET)

Hello! Looking for work. Was developer, then PM and tech recruiter. Designed some backpack. Have been developing once again in Objective-C mostly. I really like it and would love an opportunity to work with it professionally.Someone already linked to Oulu which proves that biking may be unaffected by freezing temps.
On the other end of the spectrum, and unanserwed in the article here—Sevilla might be a great place to study the effect of heat.

Great idea! Would love to see a list of companies using Smalltalk extensively. :)
Thank you! This is exactly why I did this post—someone would illuminate me :) What are the chances `storage foundation` gets adopted by all the other browsers? Not sure how the origin trial ends up as a standard.
