Manufactured Scarcity is the new post-scarcity

A few days ago, the CEO of Vercel—an AI coding startup that, as of Tuesday, raised a $300 million Series F at a $9 billion—posted a selfie with Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu. Vercel is a product for AI developers that companies like Meta are investing heavily in in order to develop their AI faster than competitors.

As an aside, when was Vercel ever an AI company? I’ve been (past tense, but I left a bit ago) a customer for years and it was a “hosting service with convenient feature bundling”.

Labeling everyone an AI company is watering down so much detail and nuance to put it lightly.

Something that follows this pattern of a single file backend is PocketBase. I’ve used it on personal projects and, while not being 1.0 yet, it’s growing quickly

My HSA emailed me and said “woopsies, we leaked all your data”.

And…? You’re going to try and give me credit monitoring when I literally have 2 overlapping credit monitoring offers from the other companies that leaked my data?

It looks like the glasses are actually manufactured by someone else, a company called XReal? I’m not sure if they’re related, but it looks like they’re not trying to invent two things at a time. Well, maybe the OS and the Laptop count

I am so sad that Blitz.js kind of… well, I’m not sure what it did, but it didn’t Ruby/Rails.

And my IDE had a reeeeally hard time keeping up because of its size. All the defaults were “sensible” as advertised, but the codebase was massive when I hopped off. Maybe it’s improved? This is my sign to check back in.

Not to be audacious, but I’m working on a post and will HN Show it, soon.

It’s called “lattice”, and it’s a software architecture with similar intentions as Kubernetes, but a vanilla approach that leans into existing frameworks instead of inventing things from scratch

I’m just glad it’s not something “too on the nose” comedically, like for Coca-Cola or something that makes me think of Wall-E. At least it’s a hiking/adventurey brand and not KFC.

Oh, I my case, I was actually creating a “headless” game, where my graphics were just in HTML and CSS because I’m more artistically enabled to make things using those instead of OpenGL!

And because I’m weird!

It’s almost as if we were in an ordered line, all waiting to learn the same thing, and had the lesson delivered no more than once.

This is why I come to the comments.

I’ve encountered NixOS through Replit and thought it was such a fantastic way to manage environments, when I’m using things like ASDF and Bash scripts for installs, I’d love this.

Then comes the question “I won’t commit to something like this and I don’t know why”, and you just articulated it for me.
