I’ve heard good things about Pangram but it’s trivially easy to fool it. I generated text using Opus 4.8 and then humanized it using Grammarly. Pangram determined it 100% human-written. Tried it numerous times with the same result. GPTZero claimed with 80% confidence that it was human-written but AI polished. Nothing in that text was human-written.

They have good docs on finetuning in general here: https://thinkingmachines.ai/tinker/

I used it last week for an application using a small model just as an experiment. It all went very well. The model did not turn out to be good though because my training data was of bad quality. I plan to work on it more this weekend.

If Thinking Machines pans out I could see it finding a welcome home at Apple.

I was thinking the same thing. Apple's use of Gemini can't be a long-term solution.

LEGO today said the iMac G3 project submitted for consideration on its "Ideas" site has been moved to Parking Lot status, which means it hasn't been ruled out and could still possibly be turned into an official LEGO set.

They never had $200 billion in cash in any quarter. Not at least since 2014. Besides, how much cash to hold is an executive decision. If the cash balance went down, it doesn't mean their business is not doing well. Cash can be used for Capex, like what the hyperscalers are doing right now. It can be used for buying back equity.

Original title: CDC Stopped Monitoring Parasite Now Causing Explosive Diarrhea Across The Country

I was in India in December 2024 and visited three states. I experienced no problem in using my credit card. For smaller amounts I simply used cash. Altogether I spent less than Rs 1,000 in cash mostly for tea. In all other places a credit card was fine.

I know the US gets a lot of flak due to the current administration's policies and actions. Despite that it is still the best country for immigrants with the caveat 'Assuming the immigrant makes every effort to integrate (learning the language, respecting local people/customs etc)'

Here is my anecdote. I was in Germany recently and met with a South American woman. We briefly talked about our immigrant experiences. She is now a German citizen married to a German man. However, she said she can't identify as a German because nobody made her feel like one. By contrast, when I became an American citizen, my American friends (white and hispanic) insisted that they attend the naturalization ceremony.

The best deals are always in shithole places /s

There was an episode of Fixer Upper where Chip and Joanna helped their carpenter buy a house for 15K. The neighborhood was dystopian. Presumably people were using the house for shooting practice as its one side was entirely bullet riddled.

Fable has been a hit or miss for me. It fixed a couple of my Github repos with specialized R packages for uncommon econometrics methods where Opus 4.8 had failed. However, for many apparently mundane requests, it just reverted to Opus.

Reminds me of another knock off Apple Studio Display by Kuycon.[1] This is pretty much a China play. There are a lot of reviews of Kuycon display on YT and people seemed to be happy with it. I think the only issue some people mentioned is that the brightness is quite low (500 nits). Meirro has a peak brighness of 750 nits. If that's acceptable to you, it looks like a good monitor.

Edit: One Reddit thread mentioned that kuycon.us is not their official website. They sell it through Click Clack.
