As a small start up when we ran into a similar problem while using google domains, they gave us a very hard time with bad support...something we could not afford then. I dont have a good alternative but wanted to mention this experience with google domains. Hope that helps.

For some this might work: 1. Just put your goal as lying flat in bed and moving your arms up and down 10 times in 180 deg. 2. Then move your legs up and down 10 times. Stop. dont do more. Leave it at that. Do it again next morning or evening maybe 12 times. Then do what ever tempts you next. Try it, at the least it wont hurt I hope :) and starts you at level 2 in the next few days.

just answer this - is this what you propose: a H1b guy had been here 8 years, greencard is in process 4 years, scheduled to come in 2 more.. you want him fired and sent back home right away?

btw, i run a business. when you hire and do it right - you hire for value produced and then consider cost of worker. as a consumer you want the best prices. but you are not comfortable with how the market will ensure it delivers your want, especially in your field of work.

trump has used extremely skilled techniques to mobilize crowds and influence people - even very intelligent people. he will continue to do so, since mob momentum is very very hard to fight against.

I have had the same experience. The car was returned dirty and there was damage on the body. They said they will pay me a measly $60. I asked for $180 since I spoke to a mechanic who said it will cost me that much in SF.

Since there was back and forth I said fine ok just give me the $60 saves me hassle I will foot the rest. I have not yet received the check this was several months ago.

Also another time we had left a credit card in the car by mistake. Someone ran up $700 in charges. Luckily card fraud protection covered us. Flight car did not give a crap when we reported it.

Don't use Flightcar, just take a shuttle or cab or whatever.

Based on how he talks and goes about doing his philanthrophy, it doesnt seem like Gates is doing it or for that matter, need it, to elevate his status. It is best to assume positive intent in such things.

i was in court to clear a minor ticket yesterday in SF and noticed the demographic of folks in there.

the demographic of the traffic court was mostly minorities and poor folks, completely out of whack with SF general population and what you expect traffic case tickets to reflect. Imagine the criminal cases.

this skew is even after accounting for pre filtering that happens before someone walks into the courtroom (who is ticketed by police, who pays early, who appears etc). Felt I was seeing the results of a system not working right.

just adding on, most folks who do not have this background of an immigrant do not understand the approx 10 year penalty you have to pay before you can start your own company here in the US. starting in 20s is different from in 30s. but hey, we play the cards we are dealt and slope matters more than intercept :).

Again just to clarify, if you read Kahneman's own words he says he is not an economist but a psychologist.

The Nobel "Memorial" prize by the bank of Sweden was awarded to him. Its what he calls himself that I am talking about, not what some Bank in Sweden is calling him.

Btw, says something about Economics as a field that it chose to name its top most award in way it will be confused with the true prizes set up by Nobel himself. Not the case, for example, with Math or others.

edit: "not even remotely an economist" I mean as a compliment, I read his Prospect Theory papers and hold him in high regard. He is a great scientist and psychologist, who did not ever study what is called economic theory- so not an economist.

btw, Kahneman who did the foundational research in what economists hijacked as behavioral economics is not even remotely an economist.

some of the earlier comments have already touched on the good points of the book. its a collection of essays and talks each on different topics. i liked it because Munger gives usable tools and sensible approaches to both aspects of life - personal and professional.

overall, Munger seems like a wise man who has lived a long fruitful life well beyond the vagaries of chance, so worth listening to.

A bit off topic, but Poor Charlie's Almanac by Munger is a great book.

i used to read tyler cowens blog a long time ago and visit it sometimes. started out impressed but soon realized he is good as an aggregator of interesting bits.

if even the sentences happen to be the same, i prefer to listen to someone who has real world experience building companies vs just economists whose being wrong has no direct impact on themselves. skin in the game and all that.

The Selfish Gene is a great and insightful book that I would recommend.

Yup, the printed version of this book is always a go to favorite read of mine. Highly recommend. Among Stoics I found this most easy and good to read repeatedly.

In some ways Benjamin Franklin's autobiography also feels similar, not sure why.

I lost my mom when I was younger. I have started realizing the point you are making more as time has passed and try a bit harder to keep things happy for my dad. It was good to hear your advice.

I like to think what we value drives our day to day actions. Often, the rewards for those actions are along another dimension and independent of your values.

If we are lucky enough to line up our values and the rewards we get for our actions, that might be a happy life :).

In this case, I speculate the guy wanted to build something fun, the reward came in $, so there is angst of values driving the action vs the reward of the action. It's great he is so aware of it though.

In a path dependent process like life, I feel a good way to measure yourself is % increase over your former self, along any dimension and quantification you see fit.

is this that trick of a "headed soon to IPO company" acquiring something largely in stock to give itself a big baseline and market justified valuation ahead of IPO. both companies are happy and the sucker is the first guy in line for IPO stock.
