I was a subscriber and stopped simply because they have ads in the app. I could look past the slowness of the app than what a webpage could deliver but ads in articles for paid subscribers? Cancelled it.

Instead of Show HN, it should be Show HN Progress.

I adores wondered the same thing for any new breakthrough. I listened to the Eric Schmidt interview on Diary of a CEO regarding this and definitely agree with his reasoning. He basically says the reason new companies get ahead while we wonder why the existing companies who should’ve been doing this stuff are so far behind is because the old companies were also do everything else. He was especially talking in terms of AI and how Google seems behind while OpenAI came out so quickly.

It works wonders on me and family members. Except we just always go for the Neil Med bottles from Costco or Target. They are also easy to disinfect in the microwave.

Always distilled water, though. It’s not worth waiting to boil the water, let it cool down, and then manage the dish used after. It’s also easy to get just the right temperature using distilled water in the microwave.

It’s a package of devices Apple is selling. They sell under powered smaller screen macs. They sell iMacs. They sell small iPads. They sell smaller watches. Some of these just don’t sell as well as their other offerings.

They should sell small phones. Because the whole family will be in on the brand, features, and services. I’ve heard many family members and friends say that they won’t give up their older small phones because Apple no longer makes new ones.

The idea that they don’t sell well is not a good enough reason when you are trying to capture the whole market for not just hardware but the lock in for services, apps, games, music, etc.

I presume if you are caught, the IRS or the court will hold you in the wrong for fraud and tax evasion. Because they get to interpret the law, not you.

Great points. But you missed the mark. The discussion is about taxes not if religions should own hospitals. The same poor people you mention have to pay taxes while the religious organizations get special cuts. If we are blind to how profitable and mutually beneficial relationships hospitals and insurance companies have, there is nothing else to discuss.

There are religious organizations that own hospitals. I was flabbergasted when I found out about this recently. My first thought was how they’ve got a perfect system to avoid all taxes.

Edit: it seems like the typical derailment is happening when it comes to religion. The topic is about taxes. I mentioned taxes. Not if religious organizations should own hospitals.

It’s cool to crap on Apple and all these days but this is all categorically false. What you are referring to is the Ad on the top of the page. It’s clearly labeled as ad and has a light blue box around the whole ad.

I tried all those things you mentioned and the first result after the clearly labeled ad is what I searched for.

You might know this already but the Photos catalog/photiolibrary is just a folder. You can actually right click and “show package contents”. From there, you can use something like Daisy Disk to display all the files based on their size. A simple drag and drop has worked for me. Once you find the large file, you can search for the name in the photos app. I’ve deleted some quite large videos this way to clear up some space.

I got a new laptop and didn’t install Chrome. I don’t miss it at all. The only sites that are slow on Safari and Firefox are Google related. Go figure.

Buying petrol doesn’t apply if someone is already looking for an electric vehicle. There’s plenty of cereal brands to choose from. Same as electric vehicles/trucks. Everyone has opinions to what they choose to spend money on…and people generally do that when given more than one choice.

I have the 2015 15" Retina MacBook Pro. I've loved this thing and it's worked great while letting me play a couple of the Mac supported steam games ever since I purchased it. But man I empathize with you about the fans turning on almost immediately after turning on. Lightroom finally became unusable because the slider changes would lag for every single photo and Xcode no longer supports iOS 17.

I jumped to a 16" M1 Max that I found at a pretty decent sale price. You won't regret it if you can swing the cash. The fans have only turned on when I've played Civ 6. I think they maayyy have turned on during Lightroom use but I'm not so positive.

It's said because my old 15" still operates, hardware wise, without any issues. I plan to turn it into a linux or a windows machine to play other old computer games.

I recently got a new Mac and didn’t install Chrome. I now only run Firefox and Safari. For a company so big, it’s embarrassing to see their websites and products be some of the poorest run on my computer now. It’s quite obvious that they at least optimize it for Chrome if not de-optimize it for other browsers.

$2999 For the 16”. That’s a great screen and tons of space. Mac has great integration. Everything just works seamlessly between all the devices. The older I get, the more I am willing to pay for convenience.

BHPhotoVideo has the M1 Max with 64GB ram and 4TB for $2999. $1900 off. Not a bad discount that’ll last for a while.

Yupp! It’s very tempting to try to make this a hobby and then try to perfect it. But coffee is one thing that allows me to force myself out of the house and experience the community around me. It’s a $4 excuse but it’s a good reason to not be lazy about leaving the house.

There are many ways to recharge the ground water. One is filling up dedicated basins periodically and letting the water trickle down. These basins are managed regularly to allow the water to percolate. Rivers also help with ground water recharge but only within their watersheds and routes. He’d open sourced his Achoo app in the past. All it led to was copycats pretending they are not copycats. No attribution and the whole nine yards. If you google it, there still might be remnants of the incident. So I wouldn’t hold out hope on Apollo, rightfully so.
