forget 4-day work week - think about the sub-culture of 4-Hour workweek...
read the book "The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich"
this may change the whole industry - Apple TV will have hard time to sell a separate box - unless they built in any extra feature such as games, DVD player, storage drive etc.
the cost is less but are you from India?, if not then you may have tough time to get things done quickly - its better to know someone down there (a co-founder may be) - also the culture and social structure is way different than SV - so you may take time to get used to it ... may be i can help you more if you can post your email address ...GOOD LUCK
this is good to know - thanks - just wondering whether paypal offers automated sales tax calculations and shipping calc?
And if you're addicted to reddit and cant help it then following are your choices:
Americas: Canada (English speaking, diversified society, encouraging entrepreneurship etc.)
Asia: Singapore, India, Indonesia, Philippines (all countries are english speaking for business)
Europe: any eastern Europe that has good weather and encouraging environment for start-ups.
Far East: Australia/ NewZealand (they have immigration policy, and fantastic weather)
Middle East: Abu-dhabi and Dubai (most happening place, no tax, you just need to find good geeks or import it from India).
Good Luck.
P.S: Find out everything about Australia and Canada - they both have immigration policy and temporary work visa policy ...
Google, Ambani, Tata are other good examples who have tons of companies/product run by good managers/CEOs
some are good initiator but not the operator for the rest of the life ... also people who have tons of ideas are driven by bringing does ideas in to reality ... they love being a king-maker rather than being a king for only one kingdom and run the show (thats boring for them) - they like to have more than one kingdom and then find someone to run with it.... i think pg himself is the right example for this.
if the product is good then VCs will line-up ... also startups are cheap to start so a good product will be your own PR machine.
one more: someone who has experience as a startup entrepreneur so that he/she understands and feels the pain & gain in sync.
i think they should do something like Eluta ( http://www.eluta.ca/ ) -- very simple and straightforward job search with location..
may be i'm asking a stupid question but can someone clarify what is the chicken and egg problem with dating sites?
it depends upon whether or not you're expecting your livelihood from your ideas ... if you are making money from other sources then you must go with an idea that makes you passionate and has a huge market.
Passion will keep you going and huge market will make you some money (one day) if your product is good - and your product will be definitely good if you're passionate about it, it may take little longer though.
you must read "The Dollar Crisis" before you invest in anything - trust me this will help for the rest of your life !!!

may be i can help - whats your email?
its not illegal in many countries, though you may have to pay initial license fee - also you need to have a lawyer who has knowledge of international internet gambling law ...
so you need a VC who can pay your license bill and a lawyer who can find you the legal way of doing this.
i have this old news piece that might help ...

i liked the article - i strongly believe that every company will require this kind of a team - in fact i was thinking on the same line from last couple of weeks that how someone can build a social media marketing team - it is a very diverse subject with unlimited number of tricks, tactics and techniques to create buzz for your product/service. The team has to very well organized and i think this article should be a good start. thanks ucdaz.

why $9.5mil - isn't it free for educational institution?
anyway, if google focuses only on schools and universities then half the battle is won against MS as millions and millions of student will have their primary email from gmail and when they join the workforce they will automatically become a marketing tool for google to implement similar products in the companies.
if they force for the change that you you disagree in totality then there is no other way then to quit and go on your own ... if you're busy with your day job then you need to find someone who is not that busy or who is available full-time for stock options
EDIT: somehow you have to make an agreement with your partners (if possible do it legally) that if they decide to quit or if your partnership is dissolved then IP (code) remains with you (because originally the idea was yours) and in the future they cant do something similar either, i dont know whether it is completely enforceable legally but i dont think if any company (say goolge or yahoo or MS) will let me pursue the idea on my own that was originally not mine - so in the same way you can have an agreement or contract with your partners too.
there are many issues that you're facing now... but it may be simplified if dealt smartly and with all integrity ... first of all you took too long to implement/execute your idea - so now you're in trouble (internal and external).
anyway lets resolve the internal issue first. You need to find out what your partners really want, chances are they want/need something else than what it looks like from outside, find out what will motivate them to stay with your project?, also it is not clear whether they prefer to quit or they prefer to change the concept, may be they want to quit because you're not flexible enough to listen to them and change the concept - you need to really listen to them and think rationally (not emotionally) whether changing the concept will benefit all, try to create a win-win situation for all. last option is to let them go (because if they are not motivated enough then it won't produce the desired result) without burning the relationship, find the replacement at the earliest. If they are united and want to close the company then find out the legal way to hold on to the intellectual property at the minimum cost to you....
if they are your true friends then they should not give you hard-time in exploring either options. If you really love your project then you have to be very firm though in a polite way so that they can figure it out that you're really serious to pursue your ambition and nothing can change your route (with or without their help) - may be they will change their mind after seeing your determination.
i think there should be no down-vote - because i very rarely notice that someone comments that doesn't make no sense at all - also if people who get up-voted will automatically gain more value anyway...
so for example if i make a comment that doesn't make sense then nobody will up-vote me (and nobody can down-vote me either as there is no option to do that either) and i will end-up having lowest score (which is 1) compare to others. also down-vote de-motivates more than no-vote... so why de-motivate someone.
i hope i explained in simplistic way...
you should contact a lawyer and put everything on paper ... you will form a company and company will own all the stuff (including domain) - you and your partner will own the shares of the company - it will also say how to split the revenue and who will get how much if the domain is sold out - it will also say about the other exit strategies ... so don't worry, just do it legally with good lawyer involved.
i would say make it 2yrs degree instead of 3yrs and in those 2 years you need to train them exactly what is required in the market place / industry (the same way as Zoho university) ... there is no need to waste one more year of a student, the precious time that he/she could devote in getting employment and experience
OR
it would be best if you have 2 years of training followed by 2 years of employment and that makes 4 years of degree.
as pg once said that if enough time and freedom is give to jerry yang to run the company the way he wants then he can prove his worth - i think the time has come that he proves himself and get back the reputation and business as earlier ... good luck to him.
most of the graduates from indian colleges and universities are not employable - they need extra training anyway - so why not pick them up from high-school and train them and give them employment so that they can come out of poverty ... also they will have experience by the time other peers come out of the university with no experience and employability what so ever ... this innovative model of recruitment should be replicated in all 3rd world countries ... it solves multiple problems at one stroke.
this guy has no clue what he's talking about - RIM is the King (at least right now) in enterprise email system and to kill the king you have to first kill its army - corporation is not going to change their service providers just because of iphone, period. why? well ...
2. it will cost a fortune to change the infrastructure in a corporation who are used to RIM,
3. even if they plan to change the infrastructure, the decision making (bureaucracy)and getting everything tested and setting up new tech support structure will at least take a year or two.
4. RIM is coming with new models (this summer) - which may surprisingly come with amazing features. Also their new product cycle is getting shorter and shorter with new design and easy usability.
5. lack of physical keyboard is a topic of concern for power users - executives dont have time to learn new way of typing.
6. RIM has a huge market share due to its availability with multiple service providers - apple's biggest weakness is its exclusivity with at&t and this may make them to regret in long term.
7. RIM may surprise everyone by having some exclusive tie-up with service providers, for example free VOIP calls within north america - they will still make money out of data plans though but something like this will have huge impact on competitors business models.
Conclusion: Don Reisinger, STOP dreaming !
i liked the option#2 - though there are few email services that offers to consolidate all emails a/c in to one (including yahoo, msn etc.) - one of them is orgoo.com - its in beta so dont expect a lot - but they can improve on regular basis ...
