Thanks. It looks to be working alright.
it's not about the content, but topic. i am tired of reading about AI stuff. i am not interested in it whatsoever and it has been polluting HN for a long time time.
Go is simple. People like complexity. So the write abstractions to feel better about themselves.
Go is epitome of simplicity. Why on earth would you want to put another abstraction on top of it?
There is Solod project that is Go subset that compiles into C that is more interesting https://github.com/solod-dev/solod
SystemD is now a spyware and therefore any Linux distribution that i using it. Period.
Stuck with GoLand. I hate the company, use maybe 5% of the features, but there is nothing better out there.
FileZilla for FTP.
HeidiSQL and MariaDB for SQL.
1Remote for multi-session SSH.
KeePass for passwords, keys, configuration files or any sensitive data.
Occasionally I use Notepad++, VS Codium or Zed when I need to.

companies overhired when money was cheap during covid to inflate their numbers and push their marketcap. since cheap money is gone, they have no incentive to keep the workforce. this has nothing to do with AI.
Same. I started using it for Gethly blog. It's not perfect, some things make me crazy but overall it is better than draw.io that I used to use before. Excalidraw also has these great styles that just feel right :)
You need to figure out where you want to end up and then simply seek ways/paths to get there.
There has been a review of these apps some time ago. I know google/ms were worst and Aegis was on the top of the list(among few others whom i do not remember). I have been using Aegis for aeges :D
articles like these are useless without visualisations. one might just read the source code instead.
99% of systems out there are not truly microservices but SOA(fat services). A microservice is something that send emails, transforms images, encodes video and so on. Most real services are 100x bigger than that.
Secondly, if you are not doing event sourcing from the get go, doing distributed system is stupid beyond imagination.
When you do event sourcing, you can do CQRS and therefore have zero need for some humongous database that scales ad infinitum and costs and arm and a leg.
If Cosmic desktop would be finished, I would now be on Linux. But instead, I am back on Windows 10. Linux desktop is just not there yet. I will either skip Windows 11 and go to 12, or finally end up on Linux by necessity. Looking at the direction of Microsoft and Windows, I think there is no chance for 12 to be a good operating system that I would want to use. I know I can milk Windows 10 for another 5-8 years without any issues. So, we'll see. But then again, there is also HarmonyOS and who knows where *BSD desktop will be and other OSs that might come up. Maybe nVidia will make their own Linux based OS. Or Google. I think this is the direction the OSs are heading towards. The domination of Microsoft and Apple is near its end and if big corporations step in and centralize the completely broken world of linux desktop into few solid distributions, we can have nice things again.
well said. nothing more to be added here. have a fucking website. especially without dependency on third parties that if blocked it won't load - like fonts, cdns, captchas... and better jet, don't make it SPA if you don't have to. stick to basic html.
since flatpacks/snaps/appimages are containerized-ish, i see no point in these immutable distros any more. also, cosmic is where the focus of linux desktop should be, not kde or gnome.
age verification is always a backdoor for some nefarious constitutional rights-infringing policy because every child has their parents legally responsible for their well being and all the legal aspects as well. in other words, parents have the responsibility, and authority, to enforce what devices and what websites their kids are allowed to visit, and no silicon valley epstein pedos run by mosad should have any involvement in any of this whatsoever.
Beyond, "I can't believe it's not meat" ... it's not. I'm sure all their 5 vegan customers will keep them afloat.
Last year, I heard about this maybe coming, and here it is.
On the positive side, it removes a lot of burden from the companies as making those earnings reports 4 times per year is no joke. A lot of effort goes into it.
On the other hand, earnings reports are the only times, 4 times per year to be specific, where we can clearly see real numbers and how the company is doing vs what the company is "selling" to the public. So this inherently damages transparency, no doubt about that.
Also, rememebr all those insider trades the politicians love to do? Well, now it will be even harder to monitor.
They're after you. RUN!
From what i have read, he is mostly guilty of defrauding his investors.
Good points. What is your take on Sublime? Seems like it got left behind for no good reason.
Doesn't opera/vivaldi also have built-in rss client, bit torrent client, e-mail client and irc client? Seems like a better way to have everting of this kind in one place. I wouldn't want to mix my emails with rss, that makes little sense to me.
We underestimated the gravitational pull of existing platforms. Network effects aren't just a moat, they're a wall. The loyalty users have to the communities they've already built elsewhere is profound. Getting people to move is a hard enough problem. Getting them to move and bring their people with them is something else entirely.
This. So much This.
Because it is decentralised. Google tried to take control over it with gmail but despite doing well, it can never control it.
Also, it is your digital identity, there is no substitute.
Don't get me wrong, the entire thing is primitive and outdated AF, but as long as it works and can handle the traffic it is getting, it's not going anywhere.
Are you using Zen browser?
I usually write code every day but right now I don't have anything important to do. I started writing a graphical text editor / IDE as i wanted to do some GUI stuff, which I never did. But my heart is not in it, so i just randomly write few lines here and there. I am not burnt out, just lack sufficient motivation at this time. But generally i code every day. I had a 6m break from coding 3 years ago and i definitely noticed that I forgot quite a lot of stuff. Although I was back on the horse in few days. But at least I know that the knowledge is not eternal and needs to be constantly engaged.
Yeah, turn this into another Reddit. Great idea!
