About: I'm super interested in bringing quality designs to life as strong, functional and stable software. As a freelancer I've developed for iOS since 2010 (iOS3) and to-date I've shipped 18 diverse, native, apps (becoming comfortable with a wide range of iOS techniques and frameworks). Recently I worked on a few high-profile iPhone apps: a healthcare app for Philips, and two apps for Audi. I think it's less fear of the unknown, more the fact that we've recently opened the Pandora's box of surveillance (in the public consciousness at least) and we know that this device will step up the pervasiveness by another large factor. People are uneasy, and to write this off simply as silly ignorance or lack of imagination is, I think, rather patronising.

I know this is why I use Wunderlist (Berlin), rather than RTM or Things or similar (USA) - I'm more comfortable under their local privacy obligations. (In reality I don't know how much difference it makes?)

They do, on the other hand, receive every URL you type via the auto-completion feature on the address bar.

I think clean install must be the answer tbh - I upgraded too. I'll let you know if I try it, maybe over the weekend.

I'm having real issues with the windows of certain specific apps (Chrome especially) either vanishing or retreating to the edge of the screen and becoming unmovable each time I lock the machine/it goes to sleep. Really annoying. Hopefully a bugfix soon!

p.s.: a fix I've found is changing the screen resolution (and back again) each time you unlock. hmmmmm.

CMD+Q is intended to quit: that's what CMD+W is for (for closing the current window).

Doesn't sound possible given the friends-shared data store. Can't use multiple data stores, particularly when they're totally different in operation.

Man that's depressing! I've been working as a freelance iOS & ruby dev in London for a year (experienced iOS dev, 10 moderately complex apps in the store) but really struggle to get above £50/hour whilst still attracting interesting work. Mostly the startups apologetically can't afford more than £40-50/hr.

Those earning £100+, any tips?

Windows is known to be deliberately backdoored. Schneier has publicly stated he's got the Snowden documents, and has been reporting on them for the Guardian. I can't think of a better need for an airgapped machine. On what planet would he not be being heavily surveiled?

The whole premise of this paragraph is wrong. Yes, most big businesses run Microsoft Windows, but most people hate and struggle with it. They run it not because it's the best, because it's not. They run it because monopolistic business practises forced out the competition. If he's trying to argue that Microsoft are misunderstood, that they do deserve respect after all, then maybe respect the hard-nosed business practises which have forced Microsoft products into every nook and cranny despite consistently having a shittier product than the competition.

You don't get the exact address until you've paid - just the street.

So maybe they don't get the NSL, but the people/group/company that is handling the servers might. This seems disingenuous.

The students are getting around software that lets school district officials know where the iPads are, and what the students are doing with them at all times. This software also lets the district block certain sites, such as social media favorites like Facebook.
