The Insulation is in place all the time because the process is very energy intensive and the glass over the whole basin is supposed to cool evenly. Just the end is not closed off as the glass is ejected in a continuous endless stream[1].

Its not an oven alone, its a kiln that smelts up the components for glass of the desired recipe, then purs the glass on a long (~half a km) basin of molten tin where it stretches and cools slowly, pushing the solidifying mass down the basin until the end. Re-Melting it is as far as i know not possible, as the melting is done before the pouring. You can melt the tin again, but not the glass.
Float glass is a continuous process, so it runs 24/7 and too much product is recycled into the smelter at the start again (Funnily, glass waste is actually a scarce resource). Getting the process dialed in to emit the desired quality is a long winded thing as far as i know (not involved in the process myself). Also, the heating is done with gas (LNG/CNG/H2) and electric in combination.
Can't answer for aluminium, but I can answer for window glass: One of our plants was threatened by massive flooding 2021, threatening the float glass oven (which doesn't float itself despite the name). It was closed off with insulation, turned off, and everyone hoped for the best and no steam explosion. In the end, only the cellars with the control equipment flooded and it could be gradually (as the control cabinets were checked and restarted) brought up again without loosing too much heat a day later.
In short: Heat Inertia of large molten bodies is massive with good insulation. If the time is too long tho, only dynamite will dismantle a solid chunk of material again.
At least where I live, the Steam is either reused from thermal power plant waste heat which would be evaporated off anyways, or its the heat directly produced from specialised combined electric/thermal gas plants (Blockheizkraftwerk). Also, general industrial waste heat is sometimes used (glass plants e.g).
I always wanted to build a controller for Canon Telephoto lenses to use them with c-mount cameras and control the focus from a PC. Might be helpful for that.
Working at a large Tier 1 Automotive supplier for most European OEMs but Tesla as well, it was a not-complete-joke to make show prototypes that massively hinted at Tesla or had some misleading branding and leave them accidentally lying around, when you wanted to increase your chances of selling it to any other OEM. Also, when you sold something to Tesla, you could already prepare RFQs for all others basically the day it would be released. Stopped since Musk went Bananas, now noone wants to be associated with them. At all.

As it went, our data was used to prove things to the developer they would have loved to hush-hush, which led to a cat and mouse game with the data and their open and... not so open apis. In the End, we stopped playing the game and stopped our efforts at it. Fun times.
I am in the vehicle glazing/ automotive electronics industry. Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't switch to making child-sized sewing machines, toy-shaped landmines or fentanyl-laced sweets. It would be morally less damning than what is made in that industry.

In theory you can use the WiFi-One, though I don't know if that one is BIOS-locked. I just use it with USB3 and a 4 Bay Enclosure, which probably someone is gonna explain to me is the worst idea since leaded gasoline, but I have absolutely no Issues with my ZFS NAS for 5 years that way.
In all honesty, and considering that everything you build with a SBC is not that powerful and a cabling mess, I would recommend to go for a refurbished ThinkCenter Tiny or similar + an external HDD Rack. Atleast thats the route I went, and I am vastly less annoyed about it.
I would love to buy one of the Maruti Suzuki Jimnys. It's been sold in Europe, but you can't get one in Europe anymore because its not complying with arbitrary eco-guidelines (Which somehow a G-Wagon, a Defender or a Land Cruiser are). Prices for 50K KM Used Cars are nearly double the price of new ones. Since also LADA isn't on the European market anymore, you can't get a small off-road capable vehicle anymore. Okay, there are no dedicated off-road vehicles anymore, only luxury SUVs that no one can afford and no one would take off road.
If you liked The Martian and Project Hail Mary, two books I cannot recommend enough are Daniel Suarez' Delta-V and Critical Mass. Highly technical focused hard-sci-fi about asteroid mining and human dynamics in high-risk envrionments. I can't vouch for the absolute factual correctness, but it has an appendix listing the papers the author indirectly references for the book.

I do work in automotive EMC testing and it's nearly always the voltage conversion at fault when you fail tests or influence other devices.
Buck-Boost converters are a noisy and finicky thing, and not easy to debug if you use a monolithic IC from the cheapest vendor. Quite annoying discussions.
Interestingly, I am in that Industry. That's why I have such a cynical view of it and why I drive an ancient shitbox. Interestingly, a lot of Automotive EEs I know do. I wonder why...

Most in-car ecus are not updatable, that would be 10ct more expensive per part.
If updates are possible, please pay through your nose at the certified repair shop for them to plug a SD card in you have to buy.

Except - they have. All Artillery Shell Plants in all NATO countries combined (minus Hungary, because f* Orban) are unable to produce enough shells just for the War in Ukraine. The US has completely gutted their manufacturing base, and currently won't be able to compete in a peer conflict on a ling term basis. Not enough shell and ammo production, not enough logistical capability, not enough ships, not enough dock capacity...
Some weeks ago I also relied on a 1A Quick-Blow fuse to safeguard my project from accidentally blowing up. However, while tuning the parameters for the 10 Amp 5-60V Buck Boost converter (which was only loaded output-wise for 5W at the moment) I got a thermal runaway at one of the mosfets, which instantly vaporized the FET and the FR4 below it. While my error was that the Input PSU was still set to 250W, that fuse was completely okay afterwards. Don't rely on fuses alone. They suck.

Yeah but that's the whole point thats been discussed in interested circles - the shift of the vulnerability of SPGs from the firing to the travel phase in absence of accompanying VSHORAD. (If they just had 2000 Gepards) And as Gunlorrys have to travel and fire on certain roads, that decreases the problem space.

I am not saying that tube artillery has a problem, but that ~10-20km around the line of contact seems to be the place you don't want to rely on mobility alone for survivability. Rheinmetall currently seems to be developing a 100km ranged base bleed grenade for 155mm pipes.
Drones basically have flipped the total modern artillery doctrine on their heads.
With the proliferation of fire-finder-radar, modern artillery started to switch from dug in stationary guns to highly mobile "shoot-and-scoot"-tactics, in which a gun quickly fires half a dozen rounds in a time-on-target salvo and relocates to dodge the counterbattery fire. For this, modern Artillery systems like PZH2000, Archer, RCH155, Dana and Caesar are optimized.
Since the advent of quick and cheap FPV drones, moving artillery on the road is much more in danger, and dug-in guns with jammers, SHORAD and overhead protection again regained the survivability edge - albeit mainly because russia lost most of its modern radar.
The only western SPA with any chance of survival seems to be the PZH2000, as its on a tracked carriage allowing it offroad movement and concealment and being better armored than most wheeled contemporaries on Lorry-Chassis
I won't drive an electric car as long as possible. Not because they are electric or I have any love at all for cumbustion cars, but because I work in the industry.
I see what's inside those things, I see what the plans for the next generation are, and they are a cost-cutters wet dream.
They are getting even more over-engineered, fully stuffed of useless, cheap, consumer-standard-manufactured gadgets, with software so unbelievabley shit that wouldn't be allowed to run on anything else, design and engineering teams lead by testosteroned morons - and everything targeted on rent-seeking and commodifying for the quick buck.
Seeing the current generation of EVs of many large companies, they will never be environmentally sensible - just because they are all around designed in a way to be basically impossible to be used for more than a couple of years.
