We can hardly put the blame in on large corporations for halting reforms. The only commitment that Tatas and Ambanis have is to maximize the share holder value and if they have a monopoly in the market they can do it much more easily. As long as these companies do not cross the line where they can get implicated by court (such as bribing ministers) I think they are okay.

The responsibility to protect the interests of public is with the government which is failing miserably at that task. The people of India too dont seem to value freedom much. For example the anti-corruption movement in India supports a larger government than a thinner one. They too are against reforms but want more and more lokpals to supervise the existing failed structures.

When people are evading their responsibility to fight for their freedom government will have no incentive it giving freedom to people. Corporations never have that kind of obligation in any way. Name one large company in India or elsewhere that has supported reforms that could lead to more competition in their target markets ?

That adds murder charges to the criminals. Apparently one of the rapist who was the most active in this crime was a juvenile. It might be the case the the protectors of these criminals are trying to put the maximum blame on this juvenile guy so that others escape easily and being a juvenile he too probably will be let off easily.

The whole incidence and exposed India's failure in multiple spheres. 1. Government has lost all it's credibility. 2. Police force is not being looked as protectors of law but mere goons in uniform. 3. Overall law enforcement has seen it's low in this case and many other cases.

Freedom of speech was ubiquitous feature of Hinduism.

The first Amendment of Indian Constitution and American constitution talks about Freedom of Expression. However in American case it gives that right to individuals ensuring that state will never curtail it where as in case of India it puts "reasonable restrictions" on freedom of expression and right to property.

For a police officer who does not comply to pressure from politicians and the goons, following things can happen in the order of severity.

1. Transfer order to Police Training center 2. Transfer order to Naxalite area (Naxalites are terrorists who rule certain part of India where the government law is no obeyed). 3. Suspension order. 4. The local politician may enter the police station and slap the police. (Have seen this happening). 5. The local politician may strip the police officer in front of general public and his subordinates. 6. The police officer may come under a running truck.

The real problem with police system in India is that it is still governed by the same laws that were formed by the British. British rulers used the police force mostly to control the natives by use of force. Top level politicians were given too much control over police force de facto and de jure. The Indian government did not bother to change the police system because they found it too convenient.

Indian police has very limited training. Only some officers are allowed to have handguns. Since India does not manufacture Guns neither imports them the guns given to these officers are the ones that were caught during smuggling. These guns don't work. During the 26/11 Islamic terror attack on mumbai many officers died only because they guns jammed and failed to fire.

Training of police is centralized. New recruits are passed through some basic training which involves jumping around, marching and introduction to laws. Thats all. After the join their job there is no training for them what so ever.

Why the hell do people join Police then ?

Most of the people who join Police force buy these job by paying the local politicians. A job of constable (lowest position) costs around $10,000. After that you have to pay anywhere between $10000 - $50,000 to get a transfer to a desired area. Price will be higher if opportunities to take bribes in that area is higher. The police then jsut wants to augment their salary by expecting bribes.

Every time you want to renew your passport you have to visit your local police station. Even if you have not criminal record the police takes anywhere between $10 - $50 to give you that certificate.

Powerful people use Police like servants of their house or in some cases like slaves.

For years RIM has mistreated their customers. They real "customers" are the businesses who buy phones for their employees and not the employee themselves. That is what has hurt them the most.

BB10 is their last hope of survival. So far I have not see anything ground breaking with this phone and being the first model it is likely to be far from perfect. If their latest BB10 phone does not match Samsung Galaxy S3 in specs I would say it is pretty useless.

Whatever little experience I have with Delhi police, their behavior is only a little better than animals. CBI as of today remains one of the most discredited institutions.

This post does portray India in bad light but looking at our police system we probably deserve that.

India's Police system and the laws such as Criminal Procedure Laws were formulated by British. The objective was to keep citizens completely depended on goodwill of police and politicians to be free and safe. The exact same laws have continued.

India is already a banana republic.

The next step should be to contribute to some open source JS frameworks. I will suggest jQuery or YUI. You need not always write code, you can begin with improvements to the documentation and later move on to submitting actual code.
