Isn't fluid intelligence variable and hence working memory? Didn't they say that dual n-back can increase intelligence?

I wish they had an equivalent of dual n-back for motivation. I think I have always said it, people on HN don't need more intelligence; they more need to actually get things done.

The problem with motivation and anything technique related to it is you have to be motivated to execute said technique.

I think the problem with IQ is the labelling. They give somebody Genius status without ever having to produce genius status work. In a place like america, there are suppose to be like 3 million genius(cut off 1%). I really haven't felt the impact of the many, just only a few.

You seem to fail to take your audience into consideration. It is common for HN to resist facebook login.

There is nothing wrong with suggesting something radical. At the same time, you have to be able to show the strength of your beliefs. A strong signal of belief is your willingness to place money behind an idea. Probably the best example of someone placing money behind a radical idea is Peter Thiel when he created Thiel Fellowship.

I think you would be well received if you were to offer full scholarship and stipend equal to the participants salary.

Ok, I'm guessing the purpose of the post is exploring efficient methods of learning quicker.

Personally, I say tons of examples and exercises to test that you understood said examples.

For instance, someone gives you an api, but only gives you an explanation of the parameters. It is left to you now to figure out how exactly this api works(Does it take the full file path?, Is it the printer ip or the printer name? Is the array associative?) Now if I wanted to figure it out, I would draw from my experience how things like this normally works. Normally, it is two or three choices for every parameter and you fiddle with it until you figure out the correct format for what you are doing. So, with 4 parameters that is like 16 combinations, which aint so bad.

Now, if the creator of the api, had given an example of each unique way of using his api, learning the api would be much easier. Since now instead of debating what each parameter means and how to supply the given format, he can simply copy the example format[O(n)vs O(2^n)]. Learning without examples is an exponential function. Learning with examples is a linear function and learning matrix style is constant time.

[Did I just reduce all learning activities to be a function that takes parameters and to efficiently learn is to find an efficient algorithm to figuring out the best parameters?]

Avoid books that don't have practice exercises.

Last weekend I finished reading "The Non-Designer's Design Book": http://www.amazon.co.uk/Non-Designers-Design-Book-Robin-Will....

So, I decided to test my newly formed designer skills and modify the look of the site here: http://i.imgur.com/k6y0g.png

The central point of the book is that we can tell when something is off with a design, but rarely we know how to fix it. So, yea this is what I thought need fixing on the site:

1. There is conflict between "What" and "Less Boilerplate" Header. Firstly, the fonts are the same size, so they are competing for who gets viewed first. Second, the orange on "What" is a warm color so it will stand our more, hence overpowering the header. So, I shrunk the "What" and increase "Less Boilerplate."

2. Too control the eyeflow from top to bottom, I increase the size of the navigation bar.

3. I increased repetition by changing the color of the header to white,the text to white and the separator in the navigation bar to white.

4.To highlight the "What" more I indent the text under it. And also set the text under it to be the same font size. There is no conflict here, since the header "What" is already highlighted alot.

5. To show what items that are important under "What", I bold the text that is not in the list.

1. Needs More examples - Examples gives a reader different avenues for understanding the problem better. Let's say they didn't understanding Genetic Algorithm on the first go, they would be multiple opportunity to understand it with more examples. Enhancing the chance that they understand the material and recommend it to friends.

2. Give real code - Readers might not exactly get how mathematical symbols turns into code, but I think they will understand real code. You want to lower the barrier of entry to read your material. Many programmers never took Calculus I and II and most start like 12, don't limit your audience by being opaque.

3. Give readers exercise to test their knowledge - Reader should have some sign that they are understanding the material and giving exercise show them gaps in their understanding.

4. Give it a different name - Maybe "Essential AI Algorithms","Genetic Algorithms, Simulated Annealing and others" or "Optimisation Algorithm Bible", so that you wouldn't have to explain what is Metaheuristic

This guy doesn't even include Pareto principle in his guide to success. This guy has us working most of our time getting coffee.

I say, better to write the script without a job and produce a 2 min trailer with your friends and show a couple people, than to work for months serving coffee that you hate and only to work on a script you can't complete.

I want it to cover both. Like a high level overview of what is needed to get started and then an in-depth explanation of the code.

At this point it is ideation, so I'm open to suggestion on how it could be done and what would be of interest to developers.

It's more a lesson to get pre-nup because not only you can get screwed in a divorce, your partners and shareholders could to. So, if your significant other ask why you need a pre-nup hand them that line and it so happens to be true.
