The UK could easily press the Ark Royal back into service and still has HMS Illustrious. Even if the Argentine Mirages could get past the UK's type 45 destroyers, which is unlikely because the type 45 is considered the best air defence class destroyer in the world, they would still have to contend with an upgraded version of the harriers that spanked them in the last war.

Any Argentine Naval operations would have to somehow get passed the UK submarine fleet.

And this is all under the assumption that the Typhoons stationed at Mount Pleasant somehow fell from the sky instead of flying circles round any Mirage attacks or sinking any Argentine naval ingression.

And as for ground operations? It's not even funny how badly the Argentine troops would fare against the now Afghan and Iraq battle-hardened UK paratroop and royal marine regiments.

Commercial television is a horrible user experience. Public service broadcasting in the UK is slightly less horrible. It's quality is declining as the BBC has tried to spread itself across a multitude of markets at the same time as trying to keep the license fee under control.

The bias of the BBC has always been in dispute. The right wing think the BBC is left leaning (because by their simple ratonale anything state funded is). The left wing want to keep the BBC out of the hands of the Scots, Welsh and Irish. The Scots, Welsh and Irish see the BBC as a propaganda machine for Westminster.

However, regardless of it's flaws, the BBC is probably the premier broadcaster of quality television on the planet; though I fear too many changes from idealogical government intervention will change this for the worse.

It's not just that, it's this frenzy they have to rebrand themselves as an 'online' experience/company.

The linked aside that was meant to qualify this blander than twilight statement really doesn't qualify anything. The linked article has plenty of quite tasteful screenshots of things that bear no resemblance to the gaudy morris dance that is the metro interface. And the brief and unsatisfying technicalities only serve to highlight the confusion and uncertainty over where Microsoft wants it's developers to be investing.

Well this is not really a simple problem. I think pretty much 90% of the online world assumed after a while the window's logo was a flag. The wavy pixelated contrails, the "flag" screensaver, the flag-like symbols across it's products for years. To claim that it was not a meant to be a flag is understandable and perhaps quite correct, but to then make the logo look more like a flag than ever before just screams mixed metaphors. I understand the Shetland Islands are both delighted and horrified.

And the colour? Mine eyes doth protest.

I think Microsoft have been making great strides to address the stagnation that was prevalent for so long in much of their product range, but their marketing & pr is letting them down. I would love to see the billing for that design: "It's not a flag, make it look like it's not a flag", "how about this flag design?", "OK, looks cool, can you make the blue a little brighter? My kids love bright colours".

In the draft[1], it seems the content decryption module (CDM) is where the action takes place but naturally the keys would be requested from some other key server and passed to the CDM, but according to this draft they keys will be passed via the client media stack.

I'm a bit bemused by this because:

a) CDM's are apparently just proprietary plugins by another name, defeating & poisoning the purpose of the <video> tag.

b) How can you protect anything if you hand over the safe and the keys at the same time?

I don't quite understand what you mean by "fills in gaps". There are no gaps, YaST on openSUSE is provided in addition to pretty much what anyone would expect on any distro.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'll make a point of giving it a "spin" so to speak, so I can be confident to recommend it alongside the others I mentioned. I really should anyway since there's many a package on our build service (openSUSE) using fc15/16 as build targets.

I couldn't agree more, that's a pretty "wtf" statment to make. I think it demonstrates the growing disconnect between Canonical and the Linux community.

In fact I'd go so far as to say that very few people think of Kubuntu when they think about KDE on Linux. openSUSE, Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, Arch are the go-to's for KDE on Linux.

I agree somewhat, but I tend to find that it's newbies who have managed to migrate away from MyFirstLinux™ that make all the annoying noise coming from the Arch community; so perhaps it's not fair to judge Arch users as a whole.
