My prediction is that Apple will start to use attestation (device check) to lock down iMessage. The problem is that this would require a software update for older devices.

I don’t want these features. This will inevitably break certain experiences. Some features like query parameters are part of HTTP and shouldn’t be tampered with.

The current Broadcom is actually a spin-off from HP. This spin-off (Avago) has been on a massive mergers and acquisitions spree over the last decade. This culminated with Avago buying Broadcom and renaming itself to Broadcom.

Some of the crappy Wifi+BT chipsets that were sold under broadcom were actually sold off to another company, Cypress Semiconductor.

I think this will ultimately result in more and more companies bypassing the UK. The CMA has proven to make arbitrary decisions unrelated to real competition concerns. While the EU is a large enough market for now, the UK could potentially just be skipped. All European markets are fading into irrelevancy, if the UK decided to be extra difficult to operate in, it will just accelerate its decline.

The logic doesn't make sense, and Microsoft also doesn't have a market power advantage here.

The Xbox Series X/S has been a bit of a boondoggle and Sony is vastly outselling Microsoft this generation. Not to mention the existence of Nintendo, Valve and other PC gaming stores. The argument that this would weaken competition for gaming consoles is laughable.

Sony and Nintendo have exclusive games to gain an advantage. Now an American company wants to do the same thing, and they are blocked.

American companies are being put at a competitive disadvantage due to ridiculous anti-trust interpretations. Basically the CMA and FTC are trying to prevent any American tech company from acquiring another tech company for political points at home. How did we get to this point?

It is extremely dangerous to throw logic out the window, as this results in bureaucrats picking winners and losers.

AirBnB is a terrible platform for users.

Recently a host charged me a cleaning fee, left me a negative review about not cleaning. I requested that the cleaning fee be refunded, since it was clearly fraudulent. AirBnB declined to refund the cleaning fee. I will never use them again.

I wonder what can be done to prevent companies like AirBnB, PayPal from becoming so user-hostile over time.

Russia has the most nuclear weapons of any country, the largest airborne assault force in the world, the best missile defense system in the world, the second most nuclear submarines (and second best), the third most fighter aircraft, the most tanks.

Russia has a great domestic arms industry/natural resources and can resupply itself in isolation.

People need to realize that Russia's defense is primarily setup to defend its borders.

Any country other than the US would not fare well in a nuclear war with Russia, including China.

China hasn't been at war since the 70s. No one knows how well they would do in a conflict.

You simply cannot ignore nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are a great equalizer, that is why North Korea cannot be invaded from South Korea, despite South Korea having a much better "conventional" military.

Vietnam doesn’t border Russia/USSR, and Vietnam isn’t a former Russian territory with millions of native Russian speakers.

Western countries need to ask themselves: is funding a major proxy war against the second most powerful military in the world in our long term strategic interest?

I am a pretty loyal HBO max customer, despite the troubles with the service. The content is just too good.

I thought this would be about B-tier content. But Westworld? Arguably HBOs biggest hit since game of thrones? What are the MBAs looking at? It was bad enough that Westworld was not in 4K.

Now that the White Lotus is over, maybe i should cancel

XFCE 4.18 4 years ago

HiDPI support and fractional scaling are simply must-haves for anyone with a computer built after 2011.

XFCE 4.18 4 years ago

XFCE should be spending all of its development efforts on supporting Wayland. The project's priorities are clearly not in the right place to ensure the future growth of the project. Market share will continue to decline until wayland support is added, no matter how great any new features are.
