Yeah I'm really not sure why everyone is shitting on it so hard, I mean it is a cool interactive experience. Plenty of progress in models that can use tools and search. Would love to see how one of these tool/search-enabled models do at this kind of a task. In my experience, they don't fabricate things anymore, just sometimes occasionally misrepresent the content of citations (put a citation somewhere where it doesn't actually support what is written).

Unfortunately both the 12 Mini and the 13 Mini did terrible numbers sales-wise. People say they want small phones but not enough of them actually buy them when they are available. :(

This is especially surprising to me given several providers still only support physical SIM or weird half-support (e.g. Fizz, that I'm with, allows you to open a new line with eSIM but not transfer an existing line from physical to eSIM).

I believe the counterargument here is that we've gotten used to phones being relatively thin, and people have learned to charge their phones every night anyway. Something about stated vs. true desires, just like with the Minis where people said they wanted smaller phones but then nobody bought them. I believe it might be a similar thing where people say they want thicker phones with big batteries but they won't actually buy them when they realize they will be noticeably thicker and heavier.

Can always get an Android phone and run GrapheneOS with no Google services or apps. Good luck functioning in the modern world though...

Anyone else having serious reliability issues with artifact editing? I find that the artifacts quite often get "stuck", where the LLM is trying to edit the artifact but the state of the artifact does not change. Seems like the LLM is somehow failing in editing the artifact silently, while thinking that it is actually doing the edits. The way to resolve this is to ask Claude to make a new artifact, which then has all the changes Claude thought it was making. But you have to do this relatively often.

Unfortunately some of us use Instagram specifically to keep in touch with people (IG DMs). and Meta does not seem to want to split off the messaging from the main app the same way they did with FB messenger for some reason (I would love it if they did). For Twitter, some of us need it for work as well (lots of interesting AI research published directly to Twitter). Reddit is definitely pure entertainment yeah. But there are nuances.

What works for me, and this might not be palatable to everyone, is to intentionally downgrade my phone to a worse experience to add friction. I am currently using an SE 2020 on purpose. This thing overheats like hell, if I try to do anything too intensive with it it starts stuttering like crazy. But that's actually perfect, it's what I want. It naturally reduces my use time because it can get annoying to use.

Personally I've downgraded my phone intentionally, from an iPhone 14 Pro to an iPhone SE 2020 (the previous iPhone I had). It's slow, it overheats, the battery is short. But that's what I want -- the friction makes me really consider every use of the phone, and the occasional slowdowns frustrate me just enough to reconsider taking it out of my pocket for everything. It kind of "works" for me. Might get a battery pack though hahah
