Wikimedia is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to support and maintain the data and statistics infrastructure that powers a big part of decision making in the Foundation and in the Wiki community.

Full time distributed team. We're looking for an experienced candidate who's excited about working with big data systems. Ideally you will already have some experience working with software like Hadoop, Kafka, Spark and other members of the distributed computing world.

Have you tried that though? I'd say the reason why people associate bacon with being fat is because people that overeat bacon tend to overeat junk food, sugary snacks, industrial bakery and drink litres of sodas. Truth is though, that over the last few years more and more studies are disproving[0] the connection of saturated fat with obesity and heart disease.

This is beautiful. It really shows that a lot of thought has been put into it. Have you guys thought about using CartoDB's Oddysey.js[0] to integrate maps in your timelines? It seems both projects are very related to each other.

31% isn't an overwhelming majority. Plus you're saying that India should be the standard for scarcity of vegetables, which it clearly isn't.

I'm too young/immature/irresponsible to be productive working remotely. And I feel too isolated/lonely to enjoy the freedom it provides. Turns out it wasn't the office environment what I hated from my job a year and a half ago, it was the toxic office environment. Just started a new job in an awesome team and it's like being born again.

That ranking is meaningless, since what rape actually constitutes varies wildly depending on the country, not to mention the probability of a victim to report it or of the authorities to take it seriously. I suspect that is the reason why Sweden is third in case rate per capita. I also suspect that the reason why India's might be lower is that cases tend to stay within the secrecy of the family, the village, or the company.

Also "Indians are more outraged towards rape than Americans & British" is a super bold claim I'd love to see proof of.

I'm far from being even slightly knowledgeable in this topic, but would it be possible to build this in very deep waters? Like a massive column containing a tunnel? Seems cheaper than digging a 1km hole.

Thanks for making this. As a teenager I used to sail competitively and this brings good memories. Sailing close hauled under decent wind was incredibly fun.

My guess is that there was no formal research process involved at all. It was probably a project for an arts or design course, where a lot of times the more "disruptive" an idea looks, the more encouraged the student is to proceed with it.

That reminds me of a BBC documentary called "But is it art?", where a Goldsmiths, University of London art student, for her final project, went to several art exhibitions, stole objects on display, swallowed them, and then showed them as her art after defecating them.

If the app is indeed able to have a fairly accurate height value, it just needs the turning point height in order to calculate speed, duration of fall, and the (more or lees) exact time of impact. So it could transmit the value whenever it detects that the phone has stopped moving upwards.

Also, in the UK it's nothing like the restaurant in the article. I have the rule of asking, if there is a service charge, who gets the money from it, and so far in 100% of the cases, the money goes to management, which is ridiculous.

According to the FAQ, the location history will not be retired, which is really the only functionality of latitude that I use/have seen others use.
