...but honestly these types of bugs have been inherent in software since day 1. We have had canary deployment models also for ages - so for this to happen tells us some things about the IT administrators of these companies that were impacted.

I don't think CrowdStrike bears much of the fault here. I recall this similar thing happening with Norton in the early 2000's and many others since then.

There is still the specter of nuclear war…that side of the equation has gotten worse.

Well, are they not essentially a soup of everything one would possibly need for life to arise, even with external energy source from the sun (think road kill as an example)...and yet we know of no instance in which life, by chance formed out of it; all the dead bodies seem to degrade into dirt. Of course if it did happen even once - how would we know as we can't possibly observe all occasions of such things. Anyway - just some thoughts I had on the matter.

It is not the tool it is how you use it. I used X-plane with VR and I had a yoke and peddles, etc. Cost me a couple thousand. It more than paid for itself. My training flights were about once a week but sometimes only once a month due to scheduling and weather. Whatever my lesson was one day in the real plane I would go home and do that lesson over and over again, radio calls, etc till next lesson; if I knew what the next lesson was going to cover I would also practice that... My instructor thought I was a flight prodigy and turns out I just practiced a lot...but I couldn't have done that without the sim.

I think your viewpoint stems in a belief that there is only so much money to go around. Your view about a landlord taking money is kind of a micro view. I am a landlord…the house I rent I actually built. It is an asset that people are willing to give me money to use for a while…they get a place to live…IF I could not have ever rented it out I would have never built it…it would be a worthless piece of ground that nobody would want to live on…this is how the world works…when I die, I will give it to my son…he will rent it out. Are you saying that he also would be “taking” money from people?

If one has a trail then minimalist hiking shoes or shoes in general are fine. If no trail…boots are my preference. Plus a good set are good for winter hiking to where you can add crampons if you need.

Security through obscurity is a great idea and works to slow down, prevent and even stop and attack from going forward for all kinds of systems whether is be an animal and their camouflage or a computer system holding PII with a vacuous name. Where the utility breaks down is when that is your ONLY means or layer of security. For example my house is hard to see from the road…so an opportunist thief might never see it and so just pass on by. But say this criminal finds my house by some fortuitous means. Well now he has to get past my locks and then the and if I am home, the bullets that may fly his way. And then he will have to try and get away before the police arrive.

Just so we are accurate. It was three buildings; hit by 3 planes full of people. A fourth plane that hit the ground and several buildings in New York as secondary casualties.

This is a wild idea…but perhaps people can spend a few less hours watching the tv and surfing the social web and volunteer to clean up the dead underbrush that allows such fires to spread so violently and frequently.

Even if obesity has some amount of protective benefit for certain types of chronic death categories…it doesn’t follow that being “alive” is “living”. As my own anecdotal life has many examples of obese people that live a relatively long life but the last 30 years of it have been miserable…in that they couldn’t even enjoy simple things like a walk around the block.

I view life as a I do my farm. There is always work to do to make it produce; there are times of intense work and times where I enjoy just watching the chickens…not that I don’t enjoy the intense work too; but sometimes I don’t as well but it must be done. I am always looking to do things better and more efficiently…so over time the farm does produce more, it does get better, it is not the same farm as it was a year ago. The change is sometimes fast; sometimes slower but it is always there. I think the point here is to make the general direction of change for the better at a pace that is reasonable.

While I understand the purpose, and the intrigue of the things discussed in this article, the title itself is inaccurate. My experience growing up in MT is that we did none of these things, nor did my peers. Most of the things we did were free and still are....like going for a walk, a hike, a bike ride, plinking, etc as a family.

The key aspect that allowed her to respond the way she did was humility. Humility - how is that taught? I can think of how I learned to be more humble and they all were hard trials not reproducible in the classroom; so far as I know anyway.

This author must not have the slightest understanding of the world; to think all one has to do to create an elite college is to have money.

This will happen if you feed your chickens salmon or other fish. I have chickens and yes I occasionally my sons or wife will feed them left overs and it may be some salmon skin we did not eat, some fish bones and heads that we did not eat, etc. When we do this the eggs take on that taste. I don't like it either and if it does happen then I feed those eggs to the dog....

My first son was by cesarian and we did not have insurance. The bill was $15,000. After some various payment plan discussions I asked if there was any other way to pay. The lady said yes, if you pay cash before you leave the hospital is is $2000. I since have used the pay cash method to pay a fraction of various medical bills.

I don't mean to be callous by this comment but if you mean "live differently" as living unhealthy well I have a problem with this. People that live in unhealthy ways cause all sorts of grief to others as well as financial loss. It is not right that I have to pay for people that decide to essentially eat themselves to death; it is not right that my wife and I had to care for my mother for months because she decided to eat herself to death. Heart disease and diabetes are all too common "paid" for by others - they should choose differently and while we can't make them choose differently we should for sure tell them that their choices are not "o.k.".

Except it wasn’t the legos causing the trouble. It was a few kids. Instead of correcting those kids that were being selfish jerks they blamed the toy and punished everyone. Well those kids will still be selfish jerks, the problem remains.
