I am currently reading this book and also find it a good modern interpretation. It has a concise background on the stoics and combines and interprets the teachings of many of them in to an easy to understand principles. I bought this in combination with Seneca's "letters of a Stoic" and "Meditations", by Marcus Aurelius thinking it would a good introduction before reading these.

I have noticed many of Stoic practices reproduced or supported by popular religious practices which makes sense if they aid in practitioners feeling the tranquillity/happiness that the stoics sought, even if done through fables and commandments.

shattaf's (North American salad sprayer but for the restroom) work much better then the Japanese toilets, however I would only want to use one in my residence not a public/work restroom. They are common in Brazil and the Middle East, I think the heat makes being "unclean" a bigger issue.

Starbucks still uses the strip. Although or all new cards use chip and pin now and most retailers can still use the mag strip.

Thanks for pointing that out. It shows Apples focus on the user to consider something that would be easy to over look.

I have the nexus 7 and will be getting the new iPad 4thgen to replace my 1st gen. I love the Nexus but the mini looks great. The only worry I would have is that the bezels on the vertical sides look almost look to thin. Even when reading with the nexus I sometimes inadvertently change pages and I think this could be a greater problem on the mini. So for reading I would need to try it first.

Where are they giving up liberty. You have to look at the problems from an India perspective not a first world one. Personal identification is a solved problem here but in India lack of trust and lack of access prevents many people from gaining liberty. This system will allow a greater number of people to access government programs, education, and financial tools like bank accounts. That being said there needs to be some safe guards in place to prevent the police state scenarios that many here seem to be worried about.

No its not. Over allotments are to stabilize the lack of sellers above the offering price and to raise additional capital for the issuer. It could be a reason for the price returning to $38 but most likely that was not why either. The buys at $38 can be explained by other factors like orders from people or funds who did not get all or any of their requested allotments and had resting orders at 38. Overall the markets are skittish and the price range is high based on current earnings but there is so much potential future earnings, I think we will see much higher prices if not right away some time in 2013.

I am surprised that more comments do not share this view. It is a cool technology but i worry that there are too many ulterior motives behind wanting to control your wallet on your phone. I also am not sure if the convenience factor is high enough encourage use. I can already tap my credit card against the gas pump or even at a Starbucks but I think I only done it once. I would not use it to get coupons or targeted ads pushed to my phone. Expense tracking is the only use case that interests me but with so little coverage it would not support that yet. Think what will happen is you will have a Visa app, MC app and an Amex app and then have other apps that will interact with them securely and letting you control your privacy.

Wow, I was only slightly aware of the problems at BoA, but this deal must mean that they were having a big problem raising money. You would think they could of had a fire-sale of some assets like their china holdings to better protect shareholders. That being said having Buffet show confidence in your firm is valuable and it paid off well in the past for GE, Goldman and before that Salomon Brothers.

I think the idea is great also. http://frogbox.com/ is a company started here in Vancouver who does the same thing. they also have started franchising it. I have never used them but had a friend looked into using them and said it was too expensive compared to regular boxes. It looks like it cost about $110 for boxes for a two bedroom rental. Guess the convenience and green benefits are the selling factors.

I wonder about the legality of this. Can Facebook claim ownership of your data and block this? time stamp: 56 users signed up Jan 26th at 5:04pm pst

Congratulations on the launch. I like the look of the product and wished my landlord would use it.

Looking at the comments you may want to adjust the pitch a bit to show that it makes the day to day management of units more efficient. If your tool can identify bad tenants quickly a landlord can address them before it forces other renters to leave. Also easy reporting of problems, however minor, prevents small issues from becoming large ones. For instance a leaking tap is much less costly to repair then a tap and a water damaged ceiling and floor. Other efficiencies could be the tech itself removing the lags of phone and voice-mail communications, using template replies instead of having to write fresh emails or make long phone calls for all situations, rapid forwarding to contracted service providers for repairs, and tracking of expenses for similar items and services. One of the big complaints of property managers is that they mostly get calls for bad things or when tenants and strata owners are mad. If you could make communications more formal with a tool like this you could minimize the time managers have to sit on the phone and be yelled at which could make for a happier workforce and cut some of the BS out of the workday. Oh and look into Strata managers also
