Numbers are going down, but in my area there are now 4 buildings with asylum seekers. Started with a hotel, then an office building, then some newly built expensive houses that were first up for rent and now rented for asylum seekers, and now another office building. Honoring existing treaties out of principle can also be put on hold when the situation changes.

The same can happen with any type of authentication, unless you are ok with someone pointing a webcam and authenticating you non stop.

I interviewed someone once for a fullstack role, gave him a mockup of a screen we had to build and asked how he would do it, in short some things on top of other things. The only thing he managed to say was how he would divide everything into components. I thought man, so many devs don't even know how to use html/css anymore, but who's laughing now, you just need to prompt a coding agent.

So you think most engineers are not capable to work in a group, without supervision? Who's insulting? "If you don't know what you're doing" = "You're out of depth and you need someone to guide you through"

For me the best moments at work have been when the direct manager was sick or on a very long holiday. We're adults, why would I need someone to tell me 'I agree with you', 'go ahead, I trust you'. Maybe if you don't know what you're doing, or you can't manage the stakeholders, but otherwise, the manager just gets in the way, unless they know how to make themselves invisible, or they have the connections and will to propel your career forwards I've had plenty of managers in 20+ years

Today I had to edit in MacOS a pdf which had some text fields. It had 3 places which resembled checkboxes, so in those I was able to place an `x` character. When I saved it and previewed it, the `x` was in 2 places, but not the third. I tried several times but couldn't make it work. I gave up, started a Claude session, and asked it to fill in the `x`. 4k tokens of Python later it managed to place the `x` correctly.

I find it absurd how she generalized that Western Europe is complaining a lot and less pragmatic than whatever. The same for working remote but not having the chops like the 'Bay Area'. Could have been a serious question as well, why do you find it absurd?

Afaik every company has a DNB number. It's a credit risk company which sources company data from every country.

It doesn't feel like you keep calm 'because he won the elections'. It's either that citizens can't do much in the US, fear of getting killed is real especially when disobeying police orders, or, you aren't too affected by Trump's actions to act.

What's your point, that we should all build as many nuclear icmbs as possible? Because that is the only deterrent that the Russians and Americans truly have. This is a world no sane person would like to live in. The world we should live in is where we should respect the sovereignty of others and move away from using war and killing as a threat.

I think you can indirectly motivate, or is that something else? If you create a good working/team environment and reduce the factors that demotivate people, then you will indirectly motivate them. This includes working on yourself as a manager. There are of course edge cases, but most people will thrive if the environment is good.
