State-wide railway system is definitely something only Fed can help on, I don't think even as big as Meta/Google can do much with them.

What's the Americans obsession with checks? I worked and lived in other countries , including Asia, Europe and Latin America. Most of them moved on to digital payment (especially China) where I found the US and Canada still heavily relied on a piece of paper to process a large amount of funds with no security.

In US, I realized even buying groceries they accept checks written at the counter.

Why can't the US just move on from checks?

One of my previous companies use their self-hosted Gitea. That's all good and stuff, but they don't have a dedicated DevOps person, so we actually have to spend extra maintenance on it.

I am a football guy. Anyone said we tolerate UEFA/FIFA's corrupted system is because ESL is not any better. ESL lacks of a real relegation/promotion system with other teams, and that's a huge blow to European's traditions of "competitiveness" and "dream" about having a small team going all the way to the top tier competition and even beat them. (Check out the year when Leicester won the English Premier League)

The ESL is simple a closed system, similar to what NBA in US in that there is not relegation/promotion from other lower division leagues, and that means they only play against themselves. Poorly performed team do not need to worry about getting relegated, hence there's really no competition there. And that kills the sporting spirit and the fundamental value behind sports.

Do we believe in UEFA/FIFA? Hell no, but we do believe in football pyramid system and ESL just don't have it. ESL is not the solution to the current problem in European football. It also creates a barrier to not let smaller teams to be part of the competition.

I still think the best keyboard smartphone were my BlackBerries, and I still miss typing on a HW keyboards.

I hated it until the day I have to go through every SaaS service vendors that I have and this is the quickest way I can actually "chat" with a real person about some questions. Help desk support tickets took 24hrs turn-around, and emails took even longer.

Yep, absolutely. These constraints probably yield nothing in return. We have take compromise in some of these.

I did the same with two of my kids, and we have more than two languages to consider. We want something simple to write, spell, and pronounce in all 2 languages + dialects: Cantonese, Mandarin, English.

It is super challenging. And some of my relatives are super into 八字 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Pillars_of_Destiny) that also need to make sure the characters written in Chinese can align with that too.

On a side note, I used to work very closely with Marty at Samsung before his retirement. He is an inspiration for me and I really loved working with him at that time. At that time, lots of ex-Danger folks joined Samsung and later joined Google to work on Android OS.

I agree with you, but I have to correct myself as well. I mean compare US to other countries where national free health care is available. These are basic human rights which simply ignord by the government in the US.

Workers need benefits which is understandable because they can't even go to doctors when they are sick.

Workers have no choice but to get W2 status to get health care insurance, retirement compensation, etc.

And they fix it by simply moving them as FT employees, because to the State of California that's the easiest thing they can do. Single-payer free healthcare for all - which is the right thing to do is too much for the State.

This is just how bad the State of California is being run.

Upvote mad on this. This is exactly what I have been saying to all of my friends who quitted social media. One of aspects was also the narrow view social media creates for bipolarizing spectrum of one's opinions using extremistic news and probably fakes news.
