It brought a fair few results I had never seen, and also my posts on here turned up as well.

Its also surprising to see how many posts were written and interest in its failings and downtime yet the response to an open honest explanation and reaction that they were approaching the search volumes of some of the big boys goes rather unoticed.

Very misleading quote, you should be a journalist..

You are pointing to a new project I was looking to startup - NOT my current project, if you quote the whole item you will see that "I cannot personally fund this project" - relating to the new project I was looking to startup.

The existing company (Travel website) I currently work for and manage is doing quite fine thanks, hence the comment in this post.

Congratulations on your success, I suppose minus the costs for an individual this would be a healthy income, it or depends on your driving vision for the site, if it is to maintain that traction then I must agree with other comments that doing this alone simply wont work. If youve got good numbers as youve showed theres every chance you can try for funding.

I must also note that while I am very glad you have succeded in your milestone and its obvious benefits from a marketing standpoint, I find the whole area of self promotion on such an early scale somewhat of a recipe of disaster. My own startup (Travel social networking / Commerce site) is in private until september time yet from friends, family and testers our turnover and profit in the last 4 weeks dwarfs this figure. I could easily push these figures for marketing purposes but until i have sustained traction in reaching our targets they add no real benefit to us.

Nonetheless good job, but go get some extra help with that money!!

I am quite surprised by this post and the majority of recommendations. I currently run a startup in the UK, the scene is quite frankly awful, staffing costs in the UK are possibly the highest around.

You need to ask yourself if your possible employees can count leading web/software firms in their CV as more than likely in the US, no is the answer.

We have had extremely bad experiences with UK firms and now outsource all our IT projects via Guru/elance to Eastern European countries like Slovenia and further afield to Kenya (fast becoming a call centre and data alternative to India) and India.itself. The UK currently is in a financial crisis, we are experiencing a hard knock on from the US housing crisis and our inflation is currently at around 3.8% which is well above average. Additionally you will find it shocking to note the Petrol prices here are near on the highest in the world - approx £5.42 per gallon at the moment (approx $11) an earlier comment about EU countries is very viable and moving around between countries is relatively easy within the EU.

From a startup scene perspective there are little in the way of the numerous startup meets and socials I see startups being able to attend in San Fransisco. There just isnt a central hub as you have in the US for technology yet, maybe in 10 years there will be but for now its diluted.

Personally I know of the beauty and appeal of New Zealand and understand the benefits but for the pure weather, excellent salaries and quality of life Australia would be my preferred choice. Suffice to say I have been looking at moving to the US for the reason of the benefits it would bring a new startup and the networking facilities. The Venture Capital reach alone is staggering.

Hope this helps. Additionally to note, setting up a company in the UK will require a UK bank account which in turn requires a permanant address and credit checks etc.

It was actually an article by Mike a while back which pointed me here! Hes a big fan of the site by all accounts and am glad he pointed it out, its quickly become one of my first bookmarked visits every morning

Your best bet is to watch Ramsay Kitchen Nightmares, UK and US. If I were ever brave enough to open a culinary themed enterprise like yours then I would use those shows (especially the UK ones as the US get a lot of help with makeovers!) to give you a good grounding on what the difficulties can be.

Its a very hard idea I would say, good luck though.

I appreciate your point, I seem to have so much spare time and energy that while I am young (27 isnt too old!!!) I want to be able to deliver the ideas I have.

My personal role is to bring the product to the market and create the business relationships and on budget/time, this has been acheived. I suppose I want to utilize the energy and time I have while I have it!! ;)

Good advice, Currently I have experience in raising seed funding for our current project from Angel Investors. I am confident that if I can bring my skills of project managemetn, my network of outsourcing and business/sales contacts then I feel I certainly add value to the project and its execution. Going back to your point and relative to mine earlier, where would you look to publish this idea and proposition publically? Any potential forums / sites / colleges that spring to mind?
