It feels the EU is overreaching here, by alot. There are alot of other e-waste that's much worst than iphone cables and they serve as a solid competitor to the usb-c clusterf%^$ standards that's going on right now.

Found out the other day the nintendo switch emulator ryujinx is written in C#. It's the first I've heard of a performant emulator written with a gc language and it's amazing. It's as fast as its competitor written C++ which goes to show that C# can be just as fast as language without a runtime with minimal gc pauses.

I used to always get the latest and greatest iphone but with the politics and everything that's going on why would I want to spend more than the absolute minimum on my cellphone? There are plenty of wholesome things to spend money on other than tech.

Believe or not society functioned pretty well before the surveillance zoo and people were able to spend their money without worrying about their privacy. For the 99% of people that aren't money laundering or tax evading, yes the right to privacy is important.

It reminds of this project[0] using lora protocol and custom icb. The advantage of using lora is that it can go up to 25 miles and uses 1/10th of an amp when in use so it can last for years.

You're saying that the development tools, backend hosting, and other play services provide no value to developers? I disagree but at the same time google has been doing a less than great at promoting android apps and helping developers monetize their apps. Atleast compared to apple.

Kinda wish microsoft would make Windows 10 the last backwards compatible windows and start from scratch. Virtualize Win10 for backwards compatibility and start from a blank slate with modern design principles.

QubeOS does what you are describing but it's obviously not as polished as a commercial product would be from microsoft. I believe chromeOS runs browser instances within their own vms and has pretty good security.

It would be interesting to see microsoft to create a meta operating system that would run virtualized instances of windows 10, xp etc. to run applications securely and in the way to easily backup/version. I would easily pay $200 for such an operating system with enterprise grade support. There's nothing on the market like it right now.

I hope microsoft can figure out how to successfully monetize the operating system market again. I don't like them putting all their eggs in the cloud marketplace.

Uber's price directly correlates with the amount of business it does. It has doesn't have a monopoly on transportation and if the union pump up the prices then there will be less jobs. It's not like other union shops where they can more or less force a monopoly.

Uber was never suppose to be a full time job and by unionizing/legitimizing it, it's going to decrease ridership.

Just picked up the new macbook air m1 and I am staggered to find that I can play starcraft 2 and bioshock decently on a laptop that draws 30watts and is capacitivily cooled... Really just unbelievable.

So if valve could someone get ahold of some cutting edge arm processors in the next few years then this could be very viable(though I doubt they will get it out before the next version of the nintendo switch).

I said it before and I'll say it again - the vendors are the criminals here. There are vital industries that need GPUs for their viability - video games, medical research, engineering etc. and they should filter out the robo buyers to allow these people to purchase the graphic cards at reasonable rates. Right not RX570s are going for $200 on ebay right now... A 4 year old mid-tier graphics card....

Just allocating some GPUs to a wait list would be enough.

For people like me who cannot wait for GPU to become available you can get a very cheap usb-hdmi dongle off of amazon for dual monitor support. It works well enough for what I need it to do.

I don't blame the people buying up the GPUs to mine these cryptocurrencies but the vendors who allow them to do. It is absolutely criminal that they don't filter out these miners when they sell these products. They can easily make it possibly to only allow maybe 1 or 2 of these computers are shipped to a certain address or only one graphics card per a credit card. Whatever way they choose. Even putting a captcha to knock out the robo buyers would probably be enough.

They have an obligation to video game makers, hospitals, and other businesses to sell them so that people that need them for other purposes can purchase them at reasonable prices. It's also on the govt to make sure that this happens.

I don't doubt that China has the talent available to make great processors but for them to come out of the blue with a GPU that is 'competitive' these industry giants reaks of intellectual plagiarism.

It will be interesting to see what actually comes out and how the companies(and politics) respond.

If anyone from the firefox mobile team is here: please fix the bug where you can't scroll through the tabs when they overflow. Also opening whatsapp links for some reason doesn't open whatsapp but chrome does. This bug and several other nuance things made me go back to chrome mobile which is unfortunate. Especially with the fact that chrome mobile doesn't support plugins.

I am a happy firefox user and the print preview is one of the very few things that made me open chrome backup.
