Next level: do this but as a woman and try not to get harassed

I'd assume it's not so much the peaks that are a challenge - most of these 10k tweets/second aren't critical to serve to anyone fast, and that scales horizontally- it's the hot spots, that one tweet thread in the spotlight right now that everybody wants to read and jump on - that doesn't scale by just adding more servers
A motivation seems to be performance (avoiding useless multiplications followed by divisions by the same factor). I'm not sure that you really "pay" for these multiplications, with code optimization?
It's also really not the outcome wanted by regulators. Everyone losing access to their email and information, YouTube, etc would create absolute chaos. Antitrust's job is to rein in profit, not destroy markets.
Exactly. Storytelling format follows the dollars which follows consumer habits. Right now all the dollar is in content made-for-Netflix and franchise movies because most people just want to watch online stuff at home nowadays.
I don't think OP is framing it in terms of quality. Just a different style of filmmaking. A change. Whether the change is for the better - different story!
Maybe? Good luck charging one of those in an apartment building
Most people are capable of riding a bike - especially an e-bike - to get to where they're going.
Citation needed? If I think of my own family, the ones without kids in their teens, 20s, 30s, 40s are ok, but the ones older than that, and the ones with young kids, I would not put on an ebike.
[EDIT] Not sure why the downvotes. I'm cycling a lot myself and am a big proponent of cycling. But am no longer able to make this my only means of transportation now that I have kids that are both too old to fit on a baby seat and too young to be going around town on their own. Family members that have respiratory and cardiovascular health problems cannot do sustained even moderate exercise. Populations are aging worldwide. Thus I don't really know that the statement is true and would like to learn more from actual data.

This sounds like a content acquisition strategy. YouTube's embedded player isn't very good for the average branded website, as it shows a bunch of "related videos" and links that usually take the user to other content. This leads content creators away from using YouTube as a video CDN for their websites, because I guess YouTube would rather not be a freebie CDN. Except I guess for some strategic content like education, they seem to be OK serving as a CDN for the partner's website ("distraction free" I guess means YouTube's eating up the video distribution cost on those websites without making money), and this gives YouTube more video content into their library, that they can turn around and recommend in their apps
Not only difficult, but prone to being sliced when using a paper opener. Paper folded in four should be placed in the envelope with the fold at the bottom so that it doesn't get cut when slicing the paper at the top of the envelope.
They didn't start from scratch, for sure. But it has been copy and improve, not just let's make cheap copies lagging behind the original.
I don't think so. It's a little too convenient for the West to think this way, so there's a duty of skepticism. I think you can look at military stuff (fighter jets, spacecrafts, aircraft carriers), or civilian stuff like EVs, 5G network equipment, and see a clear ability to develop competitive and innovative indigenous technology when the sustained political will is there. It's bootstrapped off of imported platforms for sure but goes beyond what most other countries are able to produce.
I'm not so sure. Doesn't seem to be hurting them much.
I say "catch up" as in, covering the gap with where the US is by then. China has caught up in other fields already.
I think it's more nuanced. Left to develop it on their own, they might not succeed with a catch up effort in 5 years. Or 10. But in 20 years probably. 30 years certainly.
Hence Foxconn building up in Vietnam. I guess if I were a manufacturing company the whole ASEAN region would start to look a lot more attractive. A lot of the China-based mfrs are Taiwan owned and I suspect they are all starting to build for resilience in case of geopolitical trouble.
Bombing TSMC facilities would be extremely counterproductive to the CCP objectives.
I don't think China will destroy the very thing they're trying to capture.
The last website I saw with a perfect mouse cursor: https://thekebabshop.com/. See if you can resist slicing the logo with that big knife.
Is that surprising given that there are approx 2 or 3 orders of magnitude difference between the popularity of these platforms? 4chan is and has always been fringe even within its demographic, whereas TikTok is already one of the dominant networks.
Do you really think it's how ad networks figure out someone's marketable interests? Based on their draft email/chat messages? You obviously haven't tried doing something like this, but getting solid inferences from such tangential data is very hard, and it's not really a priority when the same users leave such a large trail from their browsing and searching anyways, visiting countless websites with promiscuous audience reporting, ad tracking cookies, etc. Why would someone bother to track someone's draft emails to figure out their political affiliation when the media they consume provides all the signal.
Bad metric, bad methodology, survivor bias... I'm still expecting a kick-ass open source video editor or digital audio workstation any day now...
Once, someone pointed out to me that we spend a large amount of time with our feet in shoes and our hands on a keyboard, but somehow a closet full of shoes is more readily accepted than even just a pair of keyboards to switch between. I felt good about buying a second keyboard after that
How does the radio link budget work from the cell phone to the satellite? (I understand downlink can work with powerful tx at the satellite end but most cell phones transmitters are much lower power)
And about airplane mode. Yes “disconnecting is a choice”, but if the internet is just the flip of a button away, I’ve found I’m not able to keep that button off.
Leave your SIM card home
This is a great outlook on learning. It brought back memories of being accepted in a highly selective school. Using this analogy, it was a fast lane. The curriculum would've taken 8 years instead of 4 if it had been designed for average student speed.
That's a great explanation, thanks!
It looks super neat! But if I'm honest with myself I don't actually "see" the numbers being equal after summing these tetrahedra (or even the triangles). I believe it, but I'd find a regular induction proof more believable. Visually, the trick in dimension 1 is a lot more convincing.
Not necessarily a bad idea in itself, Bloomberg is a b2b only service which has some built-in social networking features that have made it quite sticky because it's an exclusive club with relatively little noise and high trust. But I'm guessing that company isn't Bloomberg :-D
