You should look into filters setup by https://github.com/letsblockit/letsblockit for YouTube. That was an ambitious project, sadly discontinued.

Looks great! But all the screenshots are of the settings. It would be nice to see what the end result is after enabling certain features.The preview is not the actual UX. I would like to see how will this tool change my youtube experience.

The reason I like unhook is, it doesn't change or force me to learn new ways to use YouTube but just reduce it to just video viewing with no distractions and blocking all the addictive pulls.

If Tailwind wasn't making that much money, they wouldn't have been able to keep developing Tailwind up to this level of sophistication.

To be specific, they had 4 staff engineers and had to fire 3 of them[1].

I don't think the article wants to belittle their work. The format isn't wrong, but the way the content is structured is troubling; it is to cater to the algorithm by tapping into the parts of our brain that are not meant to be stimulated all the time.

Any form of media isn't bad as long as it's analytical, i.e., one that forces you not just to be an observer all the time. Most content on such platforms is designed to keep your brain constantly stimulated so you never shift your attention to think. The stimulation and the dopamine hits just keep you hooked to it. They give little time for contemplation, encouraging passive consumption.

When consuming long‑form content in any format, you get bored or drift just enough to think your own thoughts as you consume. But when consuming short‑form content, you are forced not to think unless you choose to pause; if you get distracted, you might think you missed something, which you don't want to do.

Information‑dense content is not good in any way, whether academic or entertainment. It doesn't leave you with any time to think on your own, discuss with yourself or the creator, dismiss some faulty thoughts, and eventually form an opinion of your own that you want to discuss with someone, somewhere.

That being said, not everything has to be long form content. Short content can provide concise information where needed, also serve as a gateway to deeper exploration, if the viewer follows up. I am not sure how that can be encouraged as most do not choose to do, as they are drowned with it and never get time to explore deeper into topics they want to.

The numbers are interesting and a bit surprising to me.

I remember a time when people would have seedboxes for private trackers, data hoarders brag about having TBs of storage and yet only a handful of people are seeding the complete collection(s). I understand not everyone has or can seed multiple TBs of data but I was expecting there to be a lot of seeders for torrents with few hundreds of GBs.

Your theory makes sense until it falls apart if you consider SE and Mini as the same category of small iPhones. If the only reason why Mini failed was bad launch time, then why haven't Apple launched anything small (SE or Mini) after 2022? Isn't 2024 or even 2025 the perfect time to launch an upgrade for SE or Mini? They now have enough data since the last launch of a small phone.

There is a reason why almost all ERP apps end up being almost the same. When you build a product with a USP that makes you special, at some point your client will ask for all the basic things that are required for that product (provided by your competitors) and generally for businesses this becomes the reason to stay with you; your USP and you providing everything else that is expected from the product category.

The point is, you have defined your USP. Its cheaper Typeform alternative for SMBs, stick with it and build the product around it and meet all the basic requirements first. Do some research and find out which features a typical form builder wants or which Typeform features are most used. Have those ready and then work on the other fancy things.

And have a number in mind, after X number of clients increase your price. And seriously increase your price now.

Remix/React Router v7 was/is on a right path. I hope whatever they are planning with Remix with preact and using web standards will bring back the robust way of building websites.

I did not like how Remix to RR7 transition was made though, my project built using Remix was not an easy upgrade and I am rewriting a lot of it on RR7 now.

Kujtim started opencode few years back, they were developing this it even before any other CLI tools were in the market. Few months back thdxr(dax)(SST) and Adam started contributing to opencode. And quickly became the biggest contributors to the project. I think they also wanted to make it more presentable and Dax bought a domain and stuff while working on it. At some point charm approached Kujtim for some deal to move opencode to charm and keep working on it under them. Dax and Adam wanted to keep it open source as is. (Dax's commits were somehow squashed and removed at this point too) So they ended up rewriting opencode with the same name in TypeScript TUI away from Kujtim's vision. And thats where we are, since then opencode doesn't seem to have much progress done but Dax's opencode is being worked on non-stop.

This is a third party retelling of this story from some post I read, as I came to know about it only after Dax started working on TS TUI for opencode under SST.

Not as much as you think. Learning vim translates to a lot of things. I started learning vim by using vim emulator on vscode for a week, once I was comfortable with moving around in a file I moved to using neovim, learned lua to set it up the way I wanted. Eventually ended up just using lazyvim with some custom opts, custom keybindings and plugins I like.

But the point really is, what you learn in vim can be carried to most (if not all) code editors. Most will have a way to setup custom key bindings or a vim emulator.

I say that because there are times when you need to use a code editor that most devs use (mostly vscode) to work with other devs. And for those times, I really appreciate that I can keep using vim motion and key bindings.

I just wanted to point out, I love my Firefox but the gradient animation is so bad on Firefox!

At first I thought oh cool bg animation, checked the dev tools to know what it is only to realize this shouldn't be a color band animation as I see it!

Chromium based browser have it so subtle, that I barely notice that animation, I question does it even exist on it(it does!)?

I agree. Its not that difficult to just have a max-width of 90% for the content or just add some padding to the inner container.

I also think people skipping over learning some basic CSS fundamentals also end up skipping over basic UI/UX needed for accessible websites, something every web developer should have some awareness about.

Complete reliance on CSS frameworks does not magically make the websites accessible,it gets you 90% there.

Also /blog leads of 403!? Wildcard redirects are not that difficult to setup either.

That blog needs some inline padding for mobile view.

I love this project! I used to use a lot of bookmarklets, but lost a lot of them and couldn't find all I used to use. Is it possible for you to create a directory or listing for all the hosted bookmarklets, but that might need curation too.

Congrats on the launch! I think integrations would be great, this notes could be a common place to aggregate everything and act as an AI agent to fill data in other places too!

TV is very different despite being made to look like short bursts of colors and cuts because unlike short form content, there is a theme or a story that is being played through, our brain is engaged on a much longer arc of a story than short video content which does not give the viewer enough time to think beyond what is shown.

I agree that the medium through which one has pleasurable experiences is very subjective, but at the same time how much of it is consumed, absorbed and captured is what I think matters when talking about a medium being just for consumption purposes. Earlier web and social media was a lot about contributing and having a dialogue now its vastly about consumption or some form of outlet which does not encourage any traditional engagement but a passive viewing.

That being said, all these channels also have content which is good and enriching. But to reach that one has to be familiar with the platform to navigate away from the algorithm and also be looking for it. The idea that TikTok throws in only the entertaining content for selected topics at the get go says a lot of the culture its promoting and encouraging.

Its a growth hack, I understand that. But when creating something better than PH, it would be good to see something different than PH, the more focus on product than the makers themselves.

Most product launches from seasoned makers get a fair amount of attention anyway, isn't your mission to put focus on product no matter the maker? Not let the product get buried down because a well known maker has launched something else thats getting most of the attention?

What is with this idea of having engaged user metric for such sites? Why are engaged members rewarded and recognized when the products should be the one that should get the focus and attention.

Can someone please tell me what I fail to understand? I fail to see why such apps focus on the creator than the creation itself?
