I have a different theory. Mac sales have declined since the mass tech industry layoffs because most tech jobs would buy macs for their new employees. Since they aren’t hiring there’s no need to keep buying new Mac laptops. And mac pc sales outside of tech profession are very low.

Because the “free for all” market that gave rise to Alex Jones and FOX news, etc. really improved American society…

Pay Pal did this to me as well. There’s very little consumer protection law in US to disused these companies from just freezing your account and taking your money. The worst part is that these companies usually avoid giving any proper recourse by automating most of this process so good luck finding a person that is willing to help you out. Guilty until proven innocent.

I have been doing some research on vocations and community college courses in USA. It’s hell. Most of them don’t make their curriculum easily accessible. They don’t show the price. They treat visitors like some sort of corporate funnel where they take personal information up front like contact info etc and then say “they'll get back to you later”. As a potential international (Canadian) student, I haven’t heard back yet. This is terrible experience. Contrast this to Canadian colleges like Centennial, Humber, Conestoga, etc. Their websites are clear and easy to navigate, you can find the curriculum you’ll be studying and the price you’ll be paying with no sales funnel wall. I don’t get it. Why is USA education system such a joke?

I think ideology plays less of a role than is assumed. I would posture “resources” or access to resources as the definitive driver no matter if the rhetoric is ideological or religious, etc. Taiwan manufactures a lot of electronics that China does not. It has know-how and capital (means of production) of things that are important to China, China cannot manufacture, and USA, Chinas rival, has access to —- and also relies on. It is the queen on the geopolitical chessboard. But it is that because of its “resources”.

Agree with this sentiment. Many years ago I bought a maxed out MacBook Pro for about ~ $3000 CAD and now the prices go up to ~ $6000. Technology is supposed to get better and cheaper over time. They really are trying to squeeze every cent out of consumers they can. There’s also another side to it. I think a big “buyer” of apple hardware were startups and tech companies that were providing these machines to their employees. With the tech layoff and freezes in hiring this should impact the number of Macs purchased, I suspect.

What’s insane about a standardized key mapping that is predictable across apps and works? On windows you can never be sure what any key combo will do from app to app.

Maybe the reading material is just not engaging? I know I can be selective about what topics I can concentrate on and which require me to reread every other paragraph again and again because I start daydreaming. Never going to be a chemist.

iOS being what it is with the whole walled garden ecosystem (which I do like from a security point of view) will significantly reduce the types of applications you will be able to run. For example I use ad blockers prominently on every platform and browser where I can. The ads on the internet and you tube etc are obnoxious. You’ll never have ad blockers on iOS, well not as long as the walled garden stays up. Imho. And that’s why I can’t get behind iOS/iPadOS as a daily driver.

On the one hand we have an overpopulation problem, on the other we have a lowered fertility problem? What’s the issue?
