Starlink Maritime 4 years ago

Yes, you are right. I had not seem the price tag when I posed the question. This product is for merchant ships or yachts and does not make any sense for small boat owners.

Starlink Maritime 4 years ago

Is anything know about the power consumption of the Starlink antenna? Does the maritime version use less power than the conventional unit?

The fixed-location version of Starlink consumes around 60 to 100 W constantly which is problem if you want to e.g. use solar panels on a sail boat to supply the device.

"We resealed the cabinet, signed off on all the paperwork and got the out of there without any more sight seeing."

That's the NASA spirit!

Wow, I had the very same idea. But everyone I told the idea basically said: "email is a horrible protocol stack, you don't want to build anything on top of it" or just something like "email is dead". I still think it is good idea.

As far as I can tell, it should have worked like this: The devices would turn on at approx. 3 am and then draw a current from the power outlet. Someone at the power plant would then look at the Watt meter and from the reading they would know what the outcome was.
