The lunar gateway has largely independent goals to the crewed landing missions part of Artemis. IMO only the legally mandatory use of SLS+Orion part is a screw up for Artemis but most of the rest of the hardware and infrastructure will be on commercial models extended from successful ones at LEO, including the at least two spacecraft capable of landing humans on the surface.

Yes, it will be crazy unused capacity at least for the first human landing and then some more. But once the system is better tested and refined, the latter of which NASA _is_ investing in Starship for (https://blog.jatan.space/p/moon-monday-issue-70), we will get massive returns, literally. There's also talk in the latest Planetary Science Decadal to evolve the CLPS model by setting up funding mechanisms to allow science community members to fly robotic payloads on such high-capacity Starship flights and really leverage its potential: https://blog.jatan.space/p/moon-monday-issue-74

If any of you guys at Substack can answer this, it would be great: I'm a huge fan and proponent of Substack as a professional space writer and "blogger" from the days of the old. But if there's one thing I think Substack does wrong it's the "Welcome page". Can we please get an option to disable showing the Welcome page" to people who haven't subscribed? I don't want to shove the email form in people's faces before they've read or browsed anything. I've personally seen the welcome page also being confusing to many readers, and it deters them from browsing at all—"Let me read first" isn't intuitive. It's also really annoying for people who choose to browse my articles from the Web and just don't prefer email.

The welcome page is my single biggest gripe with Substack. Sending people to the /about or /archive pages directly doesn't help because the moment people click on the logo or title to visit the homepage, the email form is shown again. If Substack is marketing the platform as being designed for "Bloggers" too (https://substack.com/for-bloggers), then you shouldn't treat publications as merely being newsletters with an email form. You acknowledge it yourself in this HN post intro that Substack is much more than a newsletter! And I agree, except it doesn't feel like it.

The new Substack app allows people to read and discover Substacks without being shown the welcome form, it only makes sense to have the Web version behave the same too. While I would understand not changing it by default but why not at least have it as an option for writers? Substack already lets writers toggle a bunch of major and minor settings to tweak their publication, why not this too?

That's not right. The Chandrayaan 2 failure has nothing to do with the Chandrayaan 1 discoveries. The lander of Chandrayaan 2 failed but it was not tasked with a follow-up science of any of these water-related discoveries. That is the job of the Chandrayaan 2 orbiter.

The water in the Apollo samples have been dismissed by scientists as being contamination from Earth. Besides, the water discovery being referred to here is in orders of magnitude more quantity, at the lunar poles. The reason the discovery of lunar water is credited to Chandrayaan 1 is because it confirmed it beyond any doubt via two instruments.

That's a good question! The sources of lunar water are poorly understood.

Some of it is formed as a result of hydrogen ions in the solar radiation hitting the oxygen present in the surface and forming water, and then being transported to the permanently shadowed regions. Another source, and likely a major one, is asteroids and comets, which were impacting vigorously during the early solar system.

But to truly differentiate between the sources of water, sample are needed. This hasn't been done yet but will open a huge box of mysteries and also give insights into how the Moon formed.
