Remember when they released the i3? From the company that released some pretty amazing looking cars, that was their first entry into the EV market? They certainly didn't want them to sell and were going to use the low sales as evidence that no one wants EVs. Now I fear it's too late for them as they're going to get their lunch eaten by Chinese EV companies that actually put in a good faith effort.

My latest favorite gadget is a Wuben G5 light. Very compact, very bright, and has lots of handy features like a swivel and magnet. $20 on Amazon right now.

I have 3 for myself as I like to keep them around the house. I've also bought a couple as gifts for my sons who both really liked them.

Not OP, but I type while lying down in bed. I don't have the AVP, but I do have xreal Air AR glasses that basically mirror my macbook pro's screen. I rest my Apple keyboard across my crotch/upper thighs, wherever my arms are most comfortable. To my right (on the bed) is my Apple Trackpad. It's kind of a hastle to move my hand from keyboard to trackpad, but I can drive almost all functions on my computer through the keyboard, so it's only used as a last resort. I also have airpods in my ears because the laptop is closed and on the floor.

I do this when my sciatica pain is preventing me from sitting and I'm tired of standing at my desk. I can work lying down for up to a couple of hours and find the position to be highly comfortable and productive.

Makes sense to me. This is completely a layman's imagination talking, but I've always thought of a man's sperm as the "current state of the man". A man produces sperm constantly and with what we know of epigenetics, he can live his life for better or worse. For instance, exercise, vitamin D levels, and alcohol use all result in changes to his epigenetic expression.

Contrast this with a woman, whom is born with all the eggs she will ever have. She doesn't produce any new ones and thus her "job" is to maintain the freshness of her eggs for as long as possible. It also makes sense that youth is the best time for her to conceive a child as her eggs will not have accumulated as much damage as an older woman.

This kind of paints the picture that a man who is taking care of himself should aim for a young woman so as to give their children the best genetic roll of the dice.

Reminds me of Hamsterdam in the third season of The Wire. The purpose of Hamsterdam was to serve as an open air drug market where drugs could be purchased and consumed. It of course devolved into terrible conditions, but it was all concentrated in a single area that could be monitored and policed. Drug use outside of the area was not tolerated at all.

The idea stills holds merit in my mind. Yes, it condones drug use and illegal activities, but it also cleans up the surrounding areas. I think it would also serve as a deterrent for the casual trying of a substance that could result in lifelong addiction. Who in their right mind would want to go to such a disgusting place to try something new?

It turns a problem that is currently diffuse to a problem that is concentrated. Like the difference between coal power plants spewing CO2 into the air versus nuclear power plants that leave radioactive waste that can be contained in barrels. Not the greatest analogy, but the point stands.

I just wanted to thank you for this advice. I just used your laminar flow idea and didn't even need to use my microfiber cloth at all, the lenses were totally clean!

Here's what I did: 1. First pass of laminar flow water from the faucet to remove any large debris. 2. Two sprays of lens cleaner on each side of each lens. 3. Rinse lenses with laminar flow water making sure to leave no droplets behind.

Thank you for changing my algorithm forever.

This looks great, like the start of a "Reddit Enhancement Suite" for hacker news. It would be great if it also worked with hckrnews.com as I find that to be my main interface for browsing the day's discussions.

Yeah, it's like we're trying to find the correct balance between nonchalance and action.

I for one lean towards nipping things in the bud and have been experiencing ever-increasing anxiety since I started watching Covid-19 in late January.

I didn't RTFA, but I'm going to chime in anyways.

I think if you're drinking 2 or more diet beverages a day, you probably have a "fuck it" attitude when it comes to your health. And that attitude probably pervades the rest of your decisions you make in your life.

Even the people I know who couldn't care less about their health all talk about not wanting to get cancer from drinking diet sodas, especially those containing aspartame.

Funny you should mention seeing a book recommendation on HN that changed your life. I have experienced the same thing, but with a different book.

A month ago I read a comment[0] about the book This Naked Mind and how it helped him/her with their alcohol consumption. Getting serious about my alcohol consumption has been on my todo list for a while, so after seeing it had 4.7 stars on audible I bought it. I listened to it in its entirety in 3 days during my commute and haven't had a drop of alcohol since.

To give you an impression of my level of drinking. I'm not a heavy drinker, but I am a habitual drinker. I drink either 2 or 3 high alcohol beers or a bottle of wine almost daily. I've always been worried about the sheer amount of empty calories I'm consuming and if just by cutting out alcohol I'd lose weight for free.

Today is day 25 since I've had any alcohol and I'm just so pleased with the outcome. Maybe the book can help you too!

Congrats on the release! I've used mojolicious for several of my personal projects and it's been wonderful.

@kraih I applaud your work ethic as the frequency of your commits and releases show you are dedicated to the project and keeping it moving forward. Thank you!

So lazy, why not commit and actually cause yourself to vomit? Then you foil reverse image searches. You could get creative with it and swallow different food colorings and paint beautiful mosaics on your car seats.

Forcing yourself to vomit is not a good idea of course, but if you have no scruples about lying anyways, maybe you deserve a little personal damage to go along with your deceit?

Maybe the driver sensed that you were going to give him a bad rating and decided to get out in front of it and make it into a race-based issue?

I have been watching the videos on nutritionfacts.org for years. If you want to see nutrition information backed up by scientific studies, that's the place to go. In a nutshell, the website and the science espouses a whole foods plant based diet.

I find the information they provide so valuable that I developed and currently maintain their Daily Dozen Android app that helps you track that you're eating the correct foods for good health. Check it out here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nutritionf...

I too am learning Spanish this year. It has been very interesting learning the differences between English and Spanish. For instance, there is a formal and informal way of speaking to people. It blew my mind a little to learn that my girlfriend (whose native language is Spanish) only speaks to her brother using the formal way. Also, she uses the informal way with some of her friends but not others. It's like a weird extra dimension of language that I never knew existed.

I too have struggled with painfully cold fingers and feet while I code. My hypothesis of what is happening is that when you're resting your arms on the table, you are preventing the free flow of blood in your forearms to your hands. Without warm blood reaching your hands, they get very cold. The same thing applies to your feet as the seat you're sitting in constrains blood flow in your legs.

A good short term solution is to fill a paper cup with hot water and wrap your hands around that. This provides temporary relief but only treats the symptom. The effect wears off quickly.

I have also tried fingerless gloves, but those are completely worthless.

The only real solution is to do some light exercise. Most days after I eat lunch, I will walk around for 30 minutes. This light exercise creates heat in my muscles and thereby heats up my blood. The warm blood can also freely circulate to my hands and feet as nothing is constraining the flow of blood. After about 15 minutes of walking I can feel an internal warmth returning to my hands. The skin is still cold but I know soon enough my hands will be warm again. And the effect lasts the rest of the day.

I've got the mid-2012 13" mbp as well and it has been great! I have the RAM maxed out to 16GB and replaced the CD drive with an internal SSD adapter. Now it has 1TB of space across two Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSDs. It's still very fast!

With that said, I'm leaving it on El Capitan. Nothing in Sierra tempts me to upgrade and pay the price of configuring everything again and being left with worse performance. It's sad, I truly believe this is the last Apple laptop that I will purchase as they continue down a path of adding things I don't care about.

You really shouldn't worry about the beans clinging to your thighs and gut. Nutritionally, beans are high in protein, have zero fat, and high in fiber. The beans are what will allow you to pass that burrito brick in the future.

I think the reason car companies besides Tesla make ugly electric/hybrid cars is because they really don't want you to buy them. I assume at this point, both car companies and the oil industry are intertwined to such a degree that it's not in their financial interest to disrupt the status quo.

My next car will hopefully be a Tesla, but I cannot afford the Model S no matter how much I'd like one.

Agreed. I've been using http://hckrnews.com for over a year now and I wouldn't ever go back to the normal HN site. I love the feature that shows you all the new submitted links since you last visited. No longer do I have to scan up and down the list and see the same links over and over again looking for new ones.

Even the salaryman can calculate his hourly rate.

I am salaried, but when I sat down and calculated my hourly rate, I was a little shocked. I didn't factor in benefits or anything besides my after tax take home pay. It's as simple as $(2 week paycheck) / 80. What you get is effectively your hourly rate.

As a salaryman, knowing this value will help you avoid working overtime since overtime is unpaid. The more hours you work, the less your effective hourly rate. I would argue that if you are asked (either implicitly or explicitly) to work more than 40 hours a week, you should find a different job as you are diluting your own pay.
