My team runs OpenCode, Pi, and Copilot — three different folder structures, three different YAML headers, three different everything. If you've felt that pain, this one's for you. A rant about lock-in, dead frameworks, and the enshittification of agentic tooling.
Love story for keeping AI frameworks minimal and sing praise to Pi Agent. While giving a few samples why.
The last two companies I worked for had UI/UX teams with knowledgeable directors. It is not dead; it is just that some people don't see the ROI in it.
That is a bit how the Germans did all the nice things during WW2. Just remove personal integrity and go along with the flow.
In my home country, we have a saying: "No religion or politics in the bar." People who drink alcohol best avoid these as you end up in a fight sooner or later.
We also do this at work. I am here to do a job. Just keep it focused on the professional side. I don't need to be your best friend. Or share the same religion or political beliefs. At work, I come together to reach a common goal.
But that said, I hate people enforcing diversity for diversity's sake. They are actually introducing politics on the work floor.
In my teens I actually ran CP/M on my C128 which could also be a C64(this mostly for games)

I installed a FTP server on the professors computer. It automatically shared your network disk once you logged in. All the COBOL assignments and solutions where there. Juvenile but hey....
As far as I see there are 2 uses for VPN.
1/ Being "safer" using public wifis. I use 5g hotspot to my phone to avoid that. 2/ Proxy to other countries for streaming reasons. Still use it for this.
All the rest is just bogus marketing speak.
Hacking a social media site together and break stuff is fine. Move fast and kill people and iterate seems not so fine.
Fun fact I still leave at 5pm. People mostly not work outside work times except if it is planned or you are on call.

Thank god this is happening. It cut down my reddit time and replaced it with actually doing some work.
I have a feeling good things get "improved" upon but I never really saw what it brought.
What I do like about reddit. It is still one place where you just use an email address and nick name. So you can be anonymous. Or reasonable anonymous. No one looking back 10 years back into your posts to cancel you for something you said that in that time maybe was not an issue.
I was so reluctant making a Facebook account back in the day because they wanted your REAL identity. Man I was a nickname on irc or on the internet in general. That was what I loved about it.
Usenet was the same you could just use throw away email account and just say whatever. Ask whatever without being scared.
Reddit is the only place where you still can do that.

But if he is French and that is connected to the Latin hence he had good(weird?) vocabulary. English vocab is also mostly derived from Latin.

English is my 3rd language. I read only English not in my native tongue. I used to keep a booklet with me write down words I didn't understand. Looked them up later. After a while had a big list which I regularly. Kindle shows you the meaning automatically now and keeps also a list of words which I regularly review.
Over time your vocabulary gets much wider. I have native English speakers asking me where I got certain words from because they are not often used spoken.
Another trick is when you write look up synonyms instead of using the same word over and over again.
But in the words you dropped I learned at least 1 new one. To simper :)

Everyone zoom calls all the time where I can hear other people in other zoom meetings in our zoom meeting. I hate it.
when we worked full remote. We gave a stipend to setup with proper microphone/headphone setup. We requested people to sit in a quiet location for meetings. Worked wonderful...
this hybrid shit just makes everything much worse....

You either go full remote and organize yourself around async and better written communication. Or you all sit in the office the whole time and much of the comms is just talk. The in between sucks.
I worked full remote and it works fine. Teams were working well, information flowed, blockers were dealt with. We didn't even use our cameras in meetings. Now I worked for 1 month hybrid and am quitting. This has all the downsides from both remote and on site working.
It is even worse on mobile. When reading "news" There is one sentence on the screen to read. The rest is popups, advertising video. Can't even figure out where the actual article is...
Helped me with one thing though. Stopped consuming news. Suddenly I feel more happy and grounded :)
Maybe the location becomes a problem? In my home country life is expensive too. Moved to a lower cost one. Bought land, build a house have a big garden. Raise animals and grow my own crops. I build solar panels and have my own waterwells. I have almost 0 cost. Just my internet. I would never ever be able to this all in my home country without going into debt so much I would be paying for that well into my retirement.
I was working in a well paid IT job almost living from pay check to pay check. Now I work remote for a lower pay and most of it just goes in my retirement savings.
Not sure what my point is but there are alternatives...
I agree with you indie creators in general get more slack from me. But for example when I pay triple A prices for video games I'm quite critical :)

I am an older geek. I never got the CoC against sexual harassments. It is f*cking illegal. Should be reported to the police and taken care of by the actual laws.
Coc seems like a law thing but who is enforcing it? Laws you have democratic elected people voting which laws, you have police checking if people follow them, courts giving out punishment. See they are 3 separate entities for a reason. Coc is written by the org, enforced by the org an punished by said org. Doesn't seem like an improvement.

Most things I do suck when I look at 6 months later. If that wasn't the case you are not really improving.
Most of the older software engineers are tinkerers. Like when I was a kid I tried to take apart all my toys and see how it worked. When a computer magazine came out with a game listing I typed it in and learned from it. Then moved and changed things around to see how it worked. This is how I went into software engineering.
These days I just do it for a living mostly. CRUD code, arbitrary complex systems because of governance/compliance. It is all a bit boring. It is a how I make a good bundle of money.
On the side I build custom motorcycles. Older ones... I buy an engine that is as mechanical as possible. Easy to fix/maintain etc. Then I do metal fabrication and build a bike around it. For hours I can tinkering with this. Just as I did over 25+ years ago with my computers.
what I wat to say is you still need people to do this so they can dive deep into the abstractions. Bit how people are able to drive their car, maybe know highlevel how the engine works. But are not able to build or maintain one :)
There is a pre-internet and Internet pre-Stackoverflow bit. Called O'reilly books.
Learning to program for example Perl. I had the learning book, the reference book and the cookbook. learning I did once, the reference had post its on it and was on my work desk. The cookbook was more the facebook type you read it on the toilet.
They had books on everything that were the industry standard. DNS, Apache, Javascript, ... The revised them regularly. For Js had the 1st, 2nd, 3rd edition. I know this sounds all ancients like real paper books. But even work had O'reilly subscription so you could order what you need.
For me it was O'reilly books, man pages. But lets not forget when you installed Linux like RedHat (not fedora yet) you could install the linux howtos. Oh boy did I learn a lot from them too: https://tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX/howtos.html
Finally there was IRC if you were stuck but this was off course the internet stage. I just went online to ask a question, dialup was expensive ;)
Lol yeah the insightful questions. I don't remember that much from high school anymore to make it relevant. Like I have been working for 25 years in IT maybe that is a bit more relevant? Another one was the GPA. First of all after a how many years in your career is that number still relevant? Also in my country there is no GPA. You pass your degree or you don't.
You call it long written essays. I felt I needed to write the magnum opus about my life.
It was a hard nope from me too. Must be hard to be a recruiter for them. Everyone dropping out of the funnel at step 1 :)
In my home country no one can do a background check like that. But they can ask me to produce a "proof of good conduct and morals". Seldom they ask for this. The only places they ask for it I know of is working for NATO, EU or something like that.
