I think MS follows the model because they won in the past.
My opinion is that Steve Jobs won't survive in MS due to their culture. Their take on innovation is to be a late market joiner.
They win because they do things better with their resources.
MS has an innovation model. It's just that it is a very non-innovative innovation model.
For most students, MBAs are for networking, from what I was told.
People exchange their business cards on the very first day and build up a network trying to climb the corp ladder together...
It is a sad situation but nevertheless, who seek true value in our modern world? Reflections will bring us wisdom.
Due to Google's preference to key word search at the moment?
Google doesn't like semantic now as I recall someone posted a link saying that maybe half a year ago.
If you are a philosophy person like me, this one is for you:
Classic Drucker: Wisdom from Peter Drucker from the Pages of Harvard Business Review.
It shows you what and how a pioneer in the field of business thinks of business itself. Learn from his thinking and learning pattern. They are just like common sense for business (like DStruc and Algo in programming).
Why don't they negotiate with Google?
I don't see any point of trying to threaten Google. Just be a man, mate, the Aussie way.
Good point.
I think the bottom line comes down to needs for cross-clique knowledge sharing. The possibility for a change in culture is low if there is no incentive for it.
Well, at least Billy is helping the poor in third world countries. :-)
Thanks for the background knowledge. Cheers. :-)
I think it is a matter of financial planning. When you know the cost of doing a startup, you will know whether you want to jump into it.
Just assume things fail and go against you will give you a good bottom line perspective. At least you have enough buffer to expected failures.
All the best to you. Cheers.
I think it is a question from the crowd that John Hennessy is trying answer.
A point on Human Capital: From what I learned, developed countries (and companies) depends much more on Structural Capital and not Human Capital in long run.
Human Capital is seen as a risky asset due to its volatility. From a intellectual capital management perspective, my guess is that Argentina has not been successful into converting its Human Capital into Structural Capital.
Education is one of the tools of such conversion. With my limited knowledge, policy and society design are the high level effective tools for the job.
Yey! Charles is from Hong Kong! :-)
Thanks. :-)
I hope someone will wrap it as an application on Windows.
That would be fantastic to have a OS to handle all web related activities for general users.
Thanks for letting me know.
I have just found out that I cannot delete my post.
Cheers.
Someone please get that AU$10,000 and donate it to open source browser projects.
I think we need a multi-view HN in which we can filter out all non-hacking related news.
In that way, you cater both technical users as well as non-technical ones.
It depends on (1) who has the power to promote you and (2) what they measure for promoting someone.
I think the return of investment is the difference you have made in the entrepreneurs' life. It provides a long term sustainable income for the poor people.
I think that is the purpose of micro-finance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microfinance
The moral decision I am referring to is whether we choose to use a pirate copy of the book.
"Our intellectual property system very desperately needs to be reexamined in light of the way technology is changing creative production"
I totally agree with you point. However, we do realize that legal system is always catching up to the real world. Before legal decision arrives, we need to decide ethically based on our judgement.
This is a model I learnt at uni on computer ethics. And I think it applies to most cases in technology field.
Economically, the bottom line is whether we are supplying enough reward back to the info publishers to sustain their work in long term.
Before the legal system has caught up in this area, we need to make a personal moral decision.
And I think respecting those who work hard to produce the books will give you a good ground for making such decision.
Please let us know what to expect in the front page.
It is kind of scary not knowing what to expect but need to sign up for your service.
I am curious why this post is getting votes. Any reason?
I can see that they have embraced Google now. Maybe next is to extend and extinguish?
To explain your proposed correlation, I think the main point is on a person's character and his way to respond to problem.
For cheating and being lazy to testing code, the common factor is the lack of pursuit to be responsible. So these behaviours can be a result from a person's character.
Another possible theory is that in response to systems that they don't like, they prefer to tricking them instead of other options such as don't care or quitting.
It is disappointing that these service based industries come to a point when making money is becoming so important especially when they are commodities. I hope that some institutions will reduce their price for a greater purpose especially for poor people.

Do you recommend people to migrate to Canada for startup? Any benefit there?
