No, creatine has been studied for decades and it’s been part of fads before (I remember Mac making a joke about creatine shits in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia a decade ago).

It’s just resurfacing as a general health fad/marketing campaign.

It’s always been popular among athletes and weight lifters but now nootropic influencers have gotten ahold of it. It’s one of the few supplements with robust scientific evidence of a strong effect but that’s in athletic performance not nootropics.

Technically, from an economic perspective, it's debt.

Isn’t the important difference that it doesn’t trigger bankruptcy on default? Economically it might not be that different but it has some significance legally because the courts have some fast tracks that trigger bankruptcies (IANAL but that’s my layman’s understanding).

If they “default” in this case it will lead to lawsuits that they will almost certainly lose but in the mean time they kick the can down the road hoping to recover on general economic headwinds like lower interest rates. IMO the risks are obviously correlated here but I’m betting short term incentives drove this mess.

Wiping out the natives isn’t the same thing as waging a war. Even from the beginning the European empires had very tenuous control over their New World colonies* and once they had to actually fight wars against well equipped European colonists to defend their control, it was a disaster for them (Bolivar, American Revolution, French and Indian war, etc).

The closest counterexample is probably the partitioning of China but that’s got its own mitigating factors

Calling it prompt engineer is doing it a disservice. With agents we’re well into process engineering, which is a ton more interesting.

The obvious baby’s first process is “plan -> execute” but as we learn about the strengths and weaknesses of LLMs you have to start unpacking that process into planning, prototyping, testing, validation, reviews, and tons of research. If you treat it like an extension of your brain that can automate some thought processes, it becomes a lot more powerful.

I also don’t think people realize how often they zone out while listening to audiobooks and miss important details. You can zone out while reading books too but with audiobooks there usually another stimulus by design.

I think Fable gave you a load of nonsense. Like I said, this stuff isn’t really in the training data and academic research is disconnected from commercial CG (and I’m pretty sure its wrong about ACIS - iiuc ACIS used global tolerances and its one of the reasons it lost to PS).

Robust/(adaptive) exact predicates and tolerance tracking solve two different things and a geometric kernel needs both, especially if you plan on letting models use meshes, lattice, or freeform surfaces (which is where the industry is headed for simulation driven design). The constructions you feed the exact predicates need to already account for tolerances to be correct (i.e. pcurves, vertices, etc) and the second you do any math on them - before feeding it to the predicate - you need tracking. Predicates don’t eliminate the floating point math.

Unfortunately geometric kernels are one of those things where unknown unknowns will bite you in the ass really hard because none of the content is really in the training data for LLMs and pathological/degenerate cases aren't just common but expected. IME it's not something that can be vibe coded with current models, if ever, without intimately understanding the algorithms.

I can't do a thorough review of waffle iron right now but just off the top of my head: it doesn't look like you have a tolerance context? The tolerances look like hard coded constants (TAU_MODEL/TAU_WORK/MATCH_TOLERANCE/etc) but that's fundamentally unworkable. Each operation and vertex/edge/etc needs to track accumulating errors and apply them to downstream point classification. Interfaces like Kernel::boolean_union(a, b) are the wrong abstraction because it's missing tons of information/functionality like accumulating FP errors, evidence/proofs, rollback, etc.

Keep working at it! It's worth the challenge.

Whether they actually actively oppose those things to the point of impacting building permits, that's a completely different matter. It really doesn't take much legislation to make golf courses economically unviable and force them to close, especially if you've got enough population within 30 minutes to support 22 of them (I speak from experience, I helped write a water reclamation ordinance that shut down at least one in my SoCal city)

If anyone actually bothered to talk to their local reps instead of posting internet comments about how much they "care", they'd get something done. If they don't, their care is just a fart in the wind for all the good it will do.

I think for many people (myself included) understanding mathematics is rooted in application because it helps bridge the divide between intuition and rote memorization. Without the application, IMO instructors are doing a disservice to their students and pedagogy of mathematics itself. They’re intentionally ignoring a significant fraction of the class, unless they’re teaching some esoteric grad level pure math.

Yeah, that’s the point. That incentive structure includes going to prison, and employers aren’t willing to die on that hill because it exposes them to insane liability if they go against a certified Professional Engineer.

Especially a layer that is largely out of band in a project (i.e. ~/.claude/…). In any project where I’ve needed memory I just add a line to AGENTS.md telling it to use MEMORY.md to save memories or STATUS.md to track progress.

There’s an ambiguity here: what is “this area”? If we’re talking about the semiconductor industry, they’ve been investing billions since the early nineties. The really big push came with the China Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund in 2014 at which point they were plowing billions into the industry across the public and private front. That one fund alone has $100 billion in assets under management at this point, and there are many other funds involved.

They’ve also invested in AI separately (before LLMs) in that time period but I’m less familiar with that sector.

And China is now doing something on the hardware axis; which it may have never explored were it not for the sanctions.

Gaining parity on the semiconductor fab front has been official government policy as part of their Five Year Plan for at least the last decade, straight from the Politburo. They were always going to go down this path, and with AI playing front and center on their upcoming plan, there’s even more pressure.

There was never a possibility of them not exploring it.
