Would `lrzip` help here? How does the 18GB compressed down to by how much using lrzip? Anyone tried and able to give us some stats?

I am thinking about getting an M2 with 32GB RAM.

Bill McEwan CEO of Amiga talks and demonstrates a hardware-agnostic operating system... AmigaDE (Amiga Anywhere) 21/9/2000 at ACE (Amiga Computer Expo) 2000 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. ~1,000 people attended. The software could be run on top of another OS or natively (without any other OS)… making it very flexible. The demo includes loading the same software onto 2 different OS's without recompilation (using the same floppy). The portability was achieved by writing a small virtual (under 120KB) virtual processor so that the software always sees the same hardware/processor. The virtual processor was easy to write. The small size of the virtual processor means it had no effect on the speed of the machine... and in fact the demo's Bill shows us run much better on the virtual processor than on Windows or Linux. It is unclear how much progress was made on AmigaDE after this.. but the explanation appears similar to the one Bill gave when demoing OS5 (the ACE demo actually has a lot more detail).

It is more to do with volumes of product, hardware is costly and the margins are thin if targeting less than 1000 per year. The problem is the product is not versatile to be adopted in a more general sense. The Engineering accomplishment of the company are great, but it does not have a broad enough market and hence reflected in the cost of the product. Similarly, you can compare that to technical books and why they cost so much as the expected sales volumes are not high enough unlike a fictional character book, prime example Harry Potter, it also became a big screen hit with fans.

Anyone remember the Linksys NLSU2 it was the RaspberryPi of its day! Should have thought of the mass market back then... and crowd funded it...

It is really funny when you find out that Intel uses Xilinx FPGAs for prototyping as they cannot get what they acquired (Altera) working in house to make things work.
