I have no idea how this site works.
I'm not sure if this is directly related, but I've noticed my Apple Music app has stopped working (getting connection error messages). Didn't realize the data for Music was also hosted on AWS, unless this is entirely unrelated? I've restarted my phone and rebooted the app to no avail, so I'm assuming this is the culprit.
Let's pray that his health suffers, in that case. I am so unbelievably tired of reading the news and seeing another pillar of civilization dismantled.
In addition to what the other commenter said, my main gripe with it was that it felt a tad bit racially discriminatory (only speaking from my own experience). I'm not a white man, and I worked in towns with predominantly white populations. I received a lot of undue complaints, and I ended up getting shunted to night shift work before I made the switch.
Also the pay as a civil engineer with 3 years of experience was roughly half what I ended up making my first year as a software engineer.
Hey, I'm also a former civil engineer-turned SWE in the NJ/NYC area! Nice to know that there are more of us out there. I already spend hours looking through Wikipedia articles, so when your site dropped I was on it right away. I dodged the AI conversation entirely by getting into a state government position where my job is all but guaranteed by the union.
It may be boring but we should continue to hold companies to a higher standard than excusing sexual harassment and social irresponsibility at global scale

Hey, I agree that he probably would never identify as a neo-Nazi. I think he thought he was being really cool and edgy throwing out the salute that was co-opted/adjusted by the Nazi party. The company he keeps still informs us on what he's willing to tolerate, and as I've laid out in your parent comment, he's chosen time and time again to endorse some pretty problematic ideas.
Here's an example of Elon Musk agreeing with a man who repeated an antisemitic belief that the Jewish community is inviting immigrants to further racism against the white population (also alluding to the Great Replacement theory - and if you want to claim that it isn't explicitly being stated, implicit nods are inherent to most political statements)[0].
Elon Musk also endorsed and spoke at an AfD event[1], which comprises members that are 7.5X more likely to participate in Holocaust denialism: believing that the Holocaust is Allied propaganda[2]. Multiple former leaders (including a co-founder) of the AfD describe the party as extremely far-right and authoritarian[3][4]. Elected members of the AfD have been found on a Facebook group sharing memes about baking Anne Frank in a pizza oven and insulting interracial couples[5]. Maybe you could claim that these are past events, but the frequency of these issues are alarming. Even so, we have a more recent example: in 2024, a leading member of the AfD was fined for using a slogan that was used by the Nazi military[6].
At best, you could call Elon Musk an absolutely bone-headed moron who has no idea who he chooses to support or where he chooses to attend. With Occam's razor it seems like he has embraced a lot of hateful ideology.
Oh, and also, it was a Nazi salute.

Speaking as US citizen, what policies/legislation could Trudeau have reasonably enacted to alleviate the housing/job market? It's been pretty rough stateside as far as real estate goes, but it doesn't seem like a solution will materialize (that is to say, there's no solution that avoids hurting the wallets of the people in charge).

I've seen his story across various sources - has he ever elaborated on specific quantities/ratios? I haven't seen anyone reproduce his regimen for his cats, and I'd love to see some more concrete evidence that the diet is effective (IMHO the extensive development of his home to act as a massive jungle gym feels like the more likely culprit in their longevity).
There's nothing inherently negative about going rogue and hacking - I think few would deny that that's what Snowden did.

For what it's worth, I watched the show while working/cleaning and the later seasons felt pretty decent. Its seventh and (I believe) final season is premiering in two days. I can definitely feel the influence of Aaron Ehasz, and although I've probably aged out of the target demographic, the ATLA-like worldbuilding/character writing is nostalgic. Not bad to have on in the background IMO if you ever get curious about what happens.

I'm nowhere near an expert on this subject, but I've heard that E. coli can be a serious issue with uncooked flour. Not sure if anyone else was concerned about these flour nano-noodles touching wounds (as they're not cooked, per se), but from what I can tell, these noodles are only 372 nm wide[0] while E. coli is something on the order of 2,000 nm (2 micrometers) in length[1]. It could also be that the electrospinning process separates these threads from any contaminants(?) I'd love to hear someone with more familiarity on the subject give their take.

I wasn't around for this specific era, but the way users of BlueSky are able to dive deep into technological waters reminds me of how people talk about learning HTML for the first time while using MySpace. Social media is a more saturated market now than before, but I wonder if we'll see a new generation of programmers sprout from BlueSky.

As much as there is a deluge of brainrot, some fairly well-spoken experts do exist on the platform and have disseminated more up-to-date information about their specialty, so I'm inclined to agree.
I was responding with an anecdote to the comment that sometimes it's important to communicate concerns, even if it means being a killjoy. Case in point - my friends wanted to imbibe a certain white powder with alcohol and I had to let them know that it is magnitudes more toxic to take them together. Did they have a less fun time? Probably. But I won't have their premature deaths on my conscience.
Great take, fully agree. My wife falls into a similar camp as the person you're close to, although she did end up eventually getting diagnosed with autism. It was only because the topic had become so casual on platforms like TikTok and Instagram that she even considered the possibility - she was only exposed to autistic people who would register between Level 2 and 3, which completely blinded her to the possibility that she could also be autistic.
I fully sympathize with people who worry about this delegitimizing their condition, but I am at the same time endlessly grateful that it allowed my wife some peace and closure in better understanding herself.
I know I'm preaching to the choir at HN, but I really wish there were more "dumb" EVs. Robert Downey Jr. recently hosted a giveaway for his vintage retrofitted electric cars (to clarify, he takes vintage cars and retrofits their engine to make them EVs), and I honestly wish I could just buy one outright.
I'm in agreement with this, provided that the same level of scrutiny is applied when assessing the circumstances that led to a misstep in judgment/sentencing.
